This is how sports shouldn't be and in this case i blame both the umpire & Tormo and Bouzkova. Miyu-san didn't hit the girl on purpose nor was she acting in anger or hitting the ball full strength. And the girl... i dunno. Maybe she did overreact, yes. But then again everybody else has a different pain tolerance and she was under a lot of stress. I'm not defending her per se. Sometimes people just can't control their emotions is all i'm saying. But yeah, the umpire should've just given a warning and then go on with the match.

Arthur Pendragon I think you are kind to look for a decent explanation for the ball girl’s actions. I’m usually a generous person myself but in this instance I’m not as kind as you are. The ball was hit with no pace and grazed the ball girl behind her left shoulder-I would’ve caused more contact if I had tapped her shoulder to get her attention at a shopping mall for example. Inexplicably the child’s reaction was to clutch her chest and cry like she had just been brutalized. My best guess: on this day baby need to be the center of attention, and baby got what she needed. Shamefully, the opponents used the opportunity to lobby for a default at great cost to the other players, the spectators, and the reputation of the sport as a whole.

these athletes invest effort and money to train and prepare for a competition. they aim to provide good performances to honor their sponsorships. to exit the competition through disqualification of this manner is downright disgraceful. shame on the opposing duo for seemingly trying to sell an unreasonable disqualification plea to the umpire. what transpired was obviously unintentional. and not to be too harsh on my statement but get that particular ball girl off the court if she gets upset over an occupational hazard. dont have her in another game again until she learns how to catch a ball or take a hit from a ball passed toward her.

If you play tennis at all you understand perfectly that the ball was not struck with any pace whatsoever and it could not and did not cause any injury. On that basis, the chair correctly determined (initially) to simply issue a warning-in my opinion even that wasn’t necessary but at least it’s not an unreasonable decision. The ball girl inexplicably was crying and clutching her chest. That was truly ridiculous. The ball had no pace and it grazed her behind the left shoulder. All I can imagine is that this child really needed to be the center of attention on this day. Unfortunately it came at a great cost to the players and spectators. The opponents played a shameful role as well. After the chair’s initial call, they lobbied for a default. In all my years of loving tennis I struggle to remember an episode so ill advised, so shameful, and so embarrassing to the sport as a whole.
