Natural gut is awesome, you probably should’ve mentioned the extra care it requires in order to maintain its playability:-)

Good information, thanks. Although, you said nothing about the maintenance of the gut strings, like the oil you need to put in it frecuently, and to avoid humidity.

Never used natural gut before though tempted to try at least once in my life. I know some poly strings say string 10% lower than usual. Is there also a guideline for natural gut? To tame that extra power and flex in the strings?
@tenniswarehouse
@tenniswarehouse 5 жыл бұрын
@omgwatdouwant, Tension maintenance is great with gut. I typically use gut in the mains, with a co-poly in the crosses. In a hybrid, I usually go about three pounds tighter with the gut mains, compared to the cross string. Troy, TW

Hi. I am likely going to be getting the new ezone 100, and am starting to look at string setups. I know this is going to seem like an odd combination, but I was wondering how you think a KLIP Legend Natural Gut 16/1.30 and Prince Vortex Triad would work. I am looking for a combo that checks all the boxes while remaining somewhat price friendly, which that seems to do. Please let me know if you think a different combo would work better as well. Thanks!

I love the idea of going with the gut hybrid, sort of a more budget-friendly Champions Choice. I definitely think more players who spend around $20 on a premium poly or multifilament, should give the gut hybrid a try being about the same price. The strings you have selected could be worth a try, although I have yet to try that specific combo. Personally, I prefer to go up in price to the Babolat Tonic 16, as it is pretty durable and basically same performance as VS Gut, and I prefer more of the round shaped polys, or even the rough texture, compared to the shaped polys with edges when it comes to using in a hybrid with gut or multi (due to nothcing and cutting into the softer string). That's just my preference. So I usually prefer to go with Babolat Tonic 16 for the mains, then I would go with something like Prince Tour XP or XC, Signum Pro Poly Plasma, Kirschbaum Evolution, Kirschbaum Max Power/Power Rough, Kirschbaum Pro Line II/II Rough. Nothing wrong with your concept hybrid, but the ones I mentioned would probably be my preference, at a similar cost. Troy, TW

I am using a the Babolat Pure Drive Tour 2018 and loving it. I am using the cyclone 17 in black at 54 lbs and it's perfect for control in a powerful racket. What tension should I string it with Gut, higher or lower and how much?
@tenniswarehouse
@tenniswarehouse 4 жыл бұрын
With a full bed of gut, you would want to go higher, likely about 4 to 5 pounds, as it is very powerful. It might also be worth experimenting with a hybrid, as gut in the mains, poly in the crosses is a popular choice among top level tour players. Troy, TW

I am planning on getting the Wilson Pros choice string set in my 2015 pure drive. Sometimes, I often have to compromise with topspin or power to get the other. I wanted to know whether I should have gut in mains or cross in order to get the absolute best of both worlds without any compromise.
@tenniswarehouse
@tenniswarehouse 3 жыл бұрын
Based on how most pro players use it, and when we have tested hybrids like champion's choice, we usually prefer the gut in the mains, to maximize the all-around performance of the string. That said, by putting the poly in the mains, you will find a bit more control, and slight more of the feel coming from the poly. Troy, TW

@@tenniswarehouse correct me if I’m wrong, but whether I put the ALU in the cross or main, I will get relatively the same amount of spin, but if I put the gut in mains I get noticeably more powerful shots and comfort?
@tenniswarehouse
@tenniswarehouse 3 жыл бұрын
@@saikyk4822, yeah it is hard to say which one gives more spin. Most would think the poly main would do that, but we have found in testing that the poly cross allows the gut mains to move and snap back very well, so spin is pretty good with the gut mains. It feels a little more sticky with the poly mains, although the poly usually bites the ball more. The gut mains definitely gives more feel, comfort, and a boost in power. Troy, TW

Whats the difference in terms of play between the vs 130, 130 black, and tonic? Does the coating change the feel of the black gut? I want to put gut in the mains of my vcore pro 310 with 4g 130 in the cross. Thanks!
@tenniswarehouse
@tenniswarehouse 4 жыл бұрын
The black gut feels a bit less lively, and the color seems to fade rather quickly. I much more prefer the natural color, especially if they are the same price. The Tonic feels just about the same as the VS, as it is the same gut, only difference being that the gauge or thickness has slight variance to it, which is basically impossible to tell from the naked eye. What racket should i string with a hybrid? And when is it appropriate to use a all gut string bed?
@tenniswarehouse
@tenniswarehouse 5 жыл бұрын
@Second Tier Josuke, I think it is a matter of preference whether or not to go with a gut hybrid, or full gut. I tend to find a full bed of gut too lively for my taste. I also play with a hefty (330 gram unstrung) racquet, and it has a relatively high swingweight. I think a full bed of gut is a nice compliment to some of our lighter weight frames, providing a high level of comfort for racquets that don't absorb shock as well. When it comes to a gut hybrid, I love the gut on the mains, and a poly on the crosses. This plays very well in most racquets, specifically for me, in most player's/modern player's frames. The RF97 Autograph, and my VCORE Pro 97 (330) both feel great with a gut hybrid. Troy, TW

Do you think this is a good option with the new extreme pro 360 to get rid of the stiffness or would it be a rocket launcher? What setup would you recommend in that racket to utilize it's full spin potential while still be easy on the arm? Thanks

@Mohamed Mokhtar, It will definitely add some comfort. I would suggest going hybrid, as opposed to a full bed. Natural gut mains, with something like Head Lynx, or Signum Pro Poly Plasma in the crosses would be a great hybrid. This will maximize spin, and provide good comfort. Troy, TW

Hey Tennis warehouse, I strung my Wilson blade 98 (16+19) whit babolat vs nat gut 1.30 / luxilon alu power 1 25 at 56/54 lbs for the first time , played whit it for a week, i was often hitting balls long and didn t got the feeling that the feel that is commonly attributed to Gut was much more than when using poly.. , is this normal or is there something wrong whit me? xd.., i got another Wilson blade 98, this time on the 18+20 string pattern, planning to do the same string job to see if maybe the tension was the problem, should i go higher or lower? thanks a lot!
@tenniswarehouse
@tenniswarehouse Жыл бұрын
If you haven't tried natural gut in a hybrid before, it can take a while to get used to it especially the power level, and also figuring out how much higher in tension to go with compared to a full bed of poly. Also, by going to the 18x20 it will feel slightly tighter even at the same tension, as the string are a bit closer together. So maybe you could try increasing the tension slightly but it will feel tighter just based on the pattern. Troy, TW

Nice! Do any pros or players use a full bed of nat gut? In a hybrid setup with poly, your set is dead when the poly goes dead correct?
@tenniswarehouse
@tenniswarehouse 5 жыл бұрын
@Akbar, Not certain if any of the top level tour pros, still do. Serena used full gut up until about March of 2012. I have found a gut/poly hybrid to hold up for a while. One of my favorites is Tonic+ 16 mains, and Luxilon 4G 16L crosses, and it lasts me quite a while, even if the 4G drops tension more so than the natural gut. Troy, TW

Not if you string the gut as your mains. Just don't use a textured poly in your crosses as it will cut into the gut faster. Use a smooth poly like 4G and use string savers.

In terms of string durability and playability do you recommend using natural gut in a fullbed or hybrid with a copoly? I have tried the later but I am afraid the firmer co poly will quickly chew away the softer gut.
@tenniswarehouse
@tenniswarehouse 5 жыл бұрын
@Balaji Ramani, The comfort is unmatched with full gut. For my preferences, a full bed is too lively, and not quite enough spin potential. Playability wise, I love the natural gut hybrid with a co-poly in the crosses. I have recently used Babolat Tonic+ 16 mains, and Luxilon 4G 16L crosses, and it plays, and lasts very well. Troy, TW
