Dogs can be great at protecting owners but they need to be trained for it. Many will bark at strangers but if you want your dog to defend you in case you are attacked or against an intruder. Its not hard to train a pit to attack but better to have it trained with an experienced trainer unless you just want an overall aggressive dog.

In the 80s I was based in Allakaket Alaska. I'd been hired to be a advisor to regular teachers who were also teaching Special Rd. Students in five Athabascan Indian villages. I and my Husky Gemeye would catch a charter flight to fly out Monday and back home on Friday. One Monday we flew into Hughes and were staying in the one room school. At about two in the morning a drunk man started banging on the school door yelling that he wanted to see the "pretty lady staying there". I had a handgun that I carried due to Grizzly Bear, and I had Gemeye. He'd never been aggressive until then.. As the man rattled the door trying to get in he charged the door barking , growling and jumping up on the door. Pretty quickly the drunk staggered away. I'd never been more impressed and proud of my Alaskan Husky!!!

I had a Bull Massif years ago when my girls were all home growing up that was spoiled rotten and quite honestly I thought he was a big scary cat as he never got excited about anything. He never even growled or bark he was just gentle as a lamb with the girls and their friends. One evening I was at the store shopping when my cell started ringing it was my oldest in tears and hysterical I couldn't understand a word she said, so I left my shopping cart full of food and drove straight home to find a half dozen police cars out side my house and a house full of policeman starring at my huge dog with a pair of human legs hanging out his mouth. Once I got him to dispatch the dude from his jowls the dude begged the cops to arrest him and take him to jail. Needless to say that dog ate Steak that night!

I’m glad that lefty was able to demonstrate his ability to take control of the situation during a situation that didn’t result in any harm coming to either one of you. I have two dogs that were both born deaf and blind because of birth defects one is nine years old and one is three. My nine year old is very passive and a real love bug but doesn’t really do much in the way of alerting me to anything other than she’s hungry. My three-year-old however let me know last summer that someone was coming into our camp while I was in the tent and she was out front on a leash, she went off the hook barking. I stuck my head out of the tent and quickly walked up to her gave her the prompt chill and she would not. She usually does what she knows I’m close. The man put up his hands and said hey I don’t want any problems sorry sorry and backed out of our camp site. I don’t know if the guy wanted to borrow a cup of sugar or had other intentions. I do not appreciate strangers walking up towards my tent without at least yelling hello or something to let me know. But he didn’t know my dog was deaf and blind he just knew my dog was loud and obnoxious and wasn’t going to take a chance on getting bit. So I do totally understand that a good dog is worth more than their weight in gold when you’re walked up on or in your case driven up on. I love Lefty he is the coolest.

I have oesteo arthritis in my hands. When I play with her she puts her mouth over my fingers, but does not bite, then licks my fingers. When I cry, she cries. She is so adorable & loves attention & affection. We have a set routine, when she knows her morning treat is 2 apple slices. She knows lunch (yummies) is 1.30 p.m. She follows me everywhere, even to the loo. I spoil her rotten of course. I've been hurt & abandoned by my own family, so she is my family. Dogs are so loving & loyal. But like children, you need to teach them from a pup. She is very obedient, but now she's 10 years old, she gets a bit stubborn & grumpy at times. I forgive her. It’s so frustrating! He must have been raised in the 50s and never bothered to keep up with the current environmental awareness. Have you ever seen Mad Men? There is one episode where the family is luxuriating in a park after enjoying a picnic together. When they’ve had their fill of nature’s beauty, they simply pick up the picnic basket, shake the wrappings and garbage off onto the ground, fold the picnic blanket, and drive away, leaving their litter everywhere. It’s never been entirely acceptable but it was probably much less likely to incur the wrath of a fellow park attendant, back in the good old days, when pregnant women didn’t bat an eye at smoking cigarettes and drinking wine, or giving their kids choking hazards to eat while they’re running around outside, with a plastic bag on their heads. Times have changed, fortunately but those scenes always cracked me up.

I have no idea what it was about. It was very random. I ended up speeding away to avoid altercation. People are getting crazy out there. Glad you are ok and have a great companion there. I just happened across this video and I am completely hooked. I love the dog and how he talks to you. He is so funny. We had been close friend since I was 14 and I am 61 now. It is really nice there and I can see why she loved it so much. We both grew up in the pacific northwest. Enough of that. I am build a tiny house. At the time I started this build my then 86 yr. old dad did everything. Work has come to a stop because I have no one to help with everything I need. I am accumulating stuff for when I start again. I will not live in it until my dad passes away because I care for him 24/7. I have subscribed to your channel and will binge watch every one. You both are inspiring me to get back at.

@MiZDove13 жыл бұрын
Maybe no one called and reported it. If they just put the signs up the day before, it could be they were patrolling to let current campers know the fire ban was on, and putting the red flags in the fire pits. Either way, he shouldn’t have had a fire and if someone called, good on them! This country has lost too much to wildfires. Some nerve, he breaks the rules then gets aggressive to defend his own poor judgement.
@dalefrancis67873 жыл бұрын
Absolutely right.
@KarstRats3 жыл бұрын
Imagine thinking that wildfires are bad for the environment… that’s why we do control burns… the only reason we control them is because of an invasive species called humans that live where we try to burn off underbrush. The world burns itself and it helps the soil. Forests grow back stronger after fires than before fires because there’s no weeds taking the stuff the trees need to eat. And it essentially make a compost pile on the floor of the forest. Those are all great things for an environment. Fire looks bad but it isn’t…
@carmenmartinez28823 жыл бұрын
I live in the San Bernardino mountains, right on the mountain. When there’s a ban you need to obey the ban and you need to find out beforehand. We don’t want to burn. I don’t know where this is but we hillbillies take it very serious. I carry a fire extinguisher at all times and would’ve just spray his pit and maybe him if he gives me lip. That’s how we roll.

Consider the residents of that "remote" area. My guess is someone who lives nearby and takes walks discovered the fire and called it in and rightfully so. You are correct. That area in the dry season is a tinderbox, hence the fire ban. Imagine your life/house/family being endangered by a random camper who decides to ignore the ban thinking they can just leave if something happens. Having personally lived in a remote and periodically dry area, I completely understand why someone called this in to the authorities. Unfortunately, you and Lefty were caught in the middle of a situation that the lawbreaker created for himself. Nice job handling a volatile person.

One time an aggressive pit ran up to my son that was 4yo at the time. My red heeler runt took on the pit buying me time to get my son to safety. Then I had to save her from getting attacked. The owners of the pit apologized and asked if my dog was okay. Then I asked if their pit was okay, because my little dog held her own. She’s my son’s protector.

Smart dogs know, can "read people". I have had personal experience, with a super graced dog, who "read" some characters. You are a team, and that's how Lefty sees it. You keep him fed and healthy. He will keep you safe, and warm. Seeing that guys fire pit, with a trash beer can. That's all you need to know. Be well, keep up with the informative, and fun episodes! Pitbulls are very protective animals. I've had two that lived well into their teens and passed. Have yet to get another but have been thinking of it for the past year. For the most part they will put themselves in between danger and their owner just to make sure nothing comes of it. If they feel like there is going to be something bout to happen they will be the first into anything dangerous. 💯 The more love they get the more they will put themselves in harns way for their owners. You have a good one.
