@snapstring Furthermore, she made a most profound statement: These people weren't able to choose what genes they were born with. The homeless, even the drug users, should be treated as disabled. In the old days, they were institutionalized in terrible conditions or driven forcibly from human settlements. Today, the best solution, though not perfect, is tiny houses on publicly owned land. Otherwise they suffer.

Watching a Facebook wall from back home in England, the discussion was about a family that was homeless and living on public land. They had been thrown out of public housing due to their delinquent son. But I tell you, everyone got together and bought food, clothing, were upset that this had happened in their town. They actually found there was more families homeless up there. Local people got together and marched outside the local government buildings. They got rehoused, the local council admitted to fault. In England usually families will be appointed a home visitor, and they will receive services, mental health, parenting, mental health counseling. Some do drop through the cracks. Yep there is a lot of homeless in England, it's appalling, especially in a western country. But hey since we left the EU! It doesn't matter whether they are mentally ill, everyone gets down on there luck. The system is fucked up here in the states. I've experienced my step daughter being homeless. I went down there 3 times before she finally came home with me, there's only 9 years between us, but I'm her Mum. It was a rough road but I got her off drugs,( meth the demon drug) and got her medical attention, mess that stabilized her somewhat. Today she has a home and is living happily with her husband. There is a lot as a community that people could do, I'm not saying bring them into your home, but the government should look after their disabled, this is a western country, and probably the only one that doesn't look after there disabled, and that's a crying bloody shame. It's all about the green ! Totally bollocks.

I hope those dogs aren’t Euthanized, that would be the ultimate sin! These people’s dogs are like their child or family , how horrible is it for the city to take away their babies! For anyone out there looking at the same situation I suggest you register your dog as a service dog, through activedogs.com, very easy for $50 you get an identification # & a lifetime membership with the U.S government office of service dog registry! Once the dog is registered it’s for life! You also get a tag or vest (depending on what you choose)! I registered my dog to make sure my dog was untouchable & as a service dog, it can go with you anywhere, restaurants, doctors, airports, stores, etc... the U.S government law state’s no one can refuse you of service if you have a registered service dog providing the dog is well mannered! I hope this helps everyone in the same situation, God bless!

The solution to homelessness, in part, is to give out small land pieces and have the people bulid with natural and reclaimed matereials. Initially, very small homes following sustainable and self-sufficient methods, where they build themsleves each community members home, one after the other untill everyone has a roof to sleep under. Then, start planting their own food, raising few chicken and small animals. After that, they can look into small solar and/or wind power solutions. All this , with a strong solidarity spirit, resources based "local" economy (exchange of goods and services) and giving to others what you don't need. Some could take up beekeeping for some honey of their own and some extra money. All this is possible with very little money. NGOs and local municipalities could easily make projects like this work! Finally, it would be beneficial to all if all this was done, free of religious, ideological or political affiliations..... There are ALWAYS solutions, this is 2016! What's needed is WILL and KNOWLEDGE not money.
@passives0n7 жыл бұрын
You should keep in mind that many chronic homeless are mentally or emotionally unstable and are incapable of constructing or managing a structured property. This is why they are homeless. Also such property would have to pass building codes, HUD standards, and meet covenance provisions of city or county ordinances. Most counties provide temporary permits to live in an RV while developing a property, but permits are only good for 90 days. We are over regulated by government hawks.
@orpheasnestos74447 жыл бұрын
Yes, but mental health tends to improve greatly when living and social conditions improve. Naturally built homes are usually, low maintenance, small and simple. As per building codes, if a relevant university/college department got involved (civil engineering school), maybe special permits could be provided for special structure zones. Something like a pilot building program. Then there is the minimum coverage code that allows you to bulid without a permit when the structure covers less than a particular number of square feet.(don't remember the exact number). Also, some states and counties are still without a code at all.

And I'll tell you right now the regulations the government imposes via non elected officials (EPA, FDA, State and County regulators) make what you so reasonably suggest, against the law. Time to reclaim our rights and our land.
@FeedScrn6 жыл бұрын
solution, kind of: Most homeless would appreciate a car or a van given or loaned to them. It's shelter. They probably don't need overnight heat, but if they do, people seem to like the propane Buddy Heater. Maybe the gov can provide electric hookups with oil-filled space heaters in the cold months.... kind of like a drive-in. In cities like LA or in Florida - maybe just a sleeping bag or a couple of blankets, and a pillow would do. Give them a weekly gasoline allowance as well. There will have to be a gov run network of vehicle maintenance shops to keep them running.... but they will be cheaper than the $millions that is spent on stick-and-brick public housing now. Them in vehicles is safer for them than sleeping in homeless shelters, on the street in some corner, or in 'the projects'.. Sometimes mobility can make all the difference. Soup kitchens should remain open for those who can use them. TaDa! There's a whole community who live in cars and vans- who like it. See channel Cheap RV Living (all one word- no spaces), Rolling Earth-Ship, etc. for details.
@discdoggie3 ай бұрын
Many that I worked with did not have valid licenses. They needed several hundred (or more!) dollars to pay back fines and fees before their driving privileges could be reinstated
@sb2010side7 жыл бұрын
why take their dogs away? No love or company I guess if you are homeless in this city. For some of them their dogs are all joy they have. If the gov. is worried about them being vaccinated get the humane society involved, I'm sure that issue could be resolved. If you think they are suffering or not being well locked after then take it case by case and take the dogs then. Treat them like any other pet owner.

This is either an unusual camp or a very "sanitized" video. Most camps include drunken roaring parties, zombied out druggies, and incoherent ramblings of the mentally ill, as well as many temporarily homeless who need short range help to get back on their feet. But it is to the point, in that everybody needs a place to sleep in peace. And we need to adapt zoning laws so that there is something between a $75,000 to-code minimum house, and sleeping in a cardboard box. Also, temporary help to succeed needs to be delineated from enabling total lack of ambition or self help. I can't blame Ontario for wanting to help their own homeless folks, before taking on homeless from the surrounding areas. The transition seemed pretty rough, but there is no easy way. In the homeless world, a dog is your guard while you get a night's sleep. without a dog, you have your few possessions stolen, or else stay awake all night. There has to be some place where old , ugly, mentally incompetent, disorganized, or broken people can live. Nazi Germany is loudly condemned for killing "undesirable" people. But what is the ultimate result of being hurried away, denied basic needs, not even allowed a nigh';s sleep? Not a lot different than a gas oven. We can do a lot better.

Ontario, CA was my hometown when the airport went in...Euclid and Nevada. My dad owned our home but in 99 died of a heart attack there. I left in 1978 because of the gun violence at my apartment door. I had small children. I'm glad the airport allowed the homeless to have solace. Thank you. We voted the airport in and now I'm glad we did. Was that Mt Baldy??! The ocean is only 40 minutes away. Ontario is the central place for everything...Fontana to the east. Where Bon JOVI is from? I may be wrong but I went to school in Fontana at Los Amigos Jr. High and Alta Loma High school. Mexico isn't too far south and LA is north just a few miles. I hated to leave my hometown. Wow, I haven't been back in 40 years and there are people that talk like me in that office. I'm in WA state since 78. Wow, 40 years in August! There's no jobs here either...just trees, dirt and mold. Toxic mold. Oh and bears, deer, nasty spiders (toxic). Why doesn't the man on trial tell the judge he's disabled with no permanent address and no money!? And....With a family to support! Good God! Now throwing them out because they have no money! Who are these people?! I think I take it back. The poor animals are sick too. A city with ETHICS. Oh how I wish. Their vehicles don't run to move! How can they leave?! This city...I take it back...I never want to go back. They treat the immigrants better, much better. My son was born in Upland fifty years ago. I can't believe this.

liah beason immigrants work harder for what they have.. Like homeless people, many can misjudge and say they are just lazy and fon't want to get a job; however, in reality only the people in that situation know that it is hard to get up from that.. Same for immigrants, you may argue that they get everything handed over to them;but, you haven't lived what they have so you have no idea that they work hard doing jobs you wouldn't do, getting paid minimum wage and even most times not even minimum wage.. But you only know what someone has been through once you walk a mile in their shoes...

Reminds me of what I saw on my trip to India in 1995. In a sense this is worse than India because in India at least everyone around you was equally as bad off as you, in America you have constant reminders that you're at the bottom of society and you haven't done enough in your life to make it worthwhile. I have been homeless, there are agencies to help but, you have to have the ambition to go and get the help. Unfortunately, people in this situation give up and accept their circumstances and get comfortable with what they have. If you cant take care of yourself why bring a dog or dogs to have to take of? This is near where I grew up...that is the Mount Baldy range in the background. This astounds me...I never saw anything like this, except Tijuana in Mexico. I grew up in Montclair, just next door to Ontario. \\][//

I recently lost my only son to the streets and a drug addiction I didn't know he acquired. I wish everyday he would have just came home and talked to me , I certainly would have helped him! He wouldn't have died all alone in a dirty alley , in a city far away from me and his extended family who also loved him dearly!! 5 and a half months ago when he was last home ! He was fighting with his girl , but he had a home a , job and wasnt a drug addict...... I just can't understand how it all went so bad , that he felt he couldnt just come home! The world can be so cruel!! Prayers for all!! If you have family , please go home , where you are loved and wanted!!

So where are the children supposed to go? it should be a federal law that any town over 10,000 people in the U.S. should have a tent city with facilities, meaning restrooms or latrines & water & dumpsters. Also every county in the U.S. should also have a designated tent /camper area with facilities with size requirements based on a percentage of population. They should have the rights to have dogs & children like anyone else. California is supposed to be so enlightened, why can't they see the obvious in front of their faces? They're heartless & that's a bad place to begin from.
@thenetnet55565 жыл бұрын
Great idea. Put in place really strict rent controls. Make sure no one could earn a dime building rental units. And when population growth far outstrips the supply of rental housing, making tens of thousands homeless, blame corporate greed. Nice!

Hey there is a reason their family Don't Want them.! Drugs alcohol, violence. And so on. Generally as a rule families put up with as much as they can then they got to close the door. I KNOW I've helped these people. And it's their fault. THEY are gonna have to change their way and second chances are very very rare with family after years time can heal, just got to check back with your family they may help you, Time heals. But don't think you can go back too soon and still drink and use drugs.

If you want to see people succeed in life it is better to give a hand up not to boot them out like they are yesterday's garbage. These people have lives, and many of them did not ask to be in that position.

The reason why people are so against tent cities is b/c they dont know how to take care of themselves. I've been to a tent city once when a friend was homeless and it is very third world country, there's needles everywhere, garbage everywhere, dog crap everywhere, no sewage so people just shat everywhere, it was very disgusting and it reeked to high heaven. I'm sure if these people took good care of their surroundings no one would complain since it'll be just like a bunch of campers.

You dont need money to be organized... you dont need money to improvise ... If they came together and put structure and organization into their tent cities it would work unfortunately most of them are druggies and not motivated enough.

This is a very sad situation which has been magnified by very poor decisions by Calif and it's cities. How about we start with getting the 90%+ of people who are employable and make them go to work every day. Making it easy to be homeless is not the way to go.

problem with tent cities and helping them out say with housing them.If you have been in an actual tent city and you see and smell how nasty it is...how do you think they are gunna treat a home? Alot of drug problems, mental issues,dental, medical etc. These need to be addressed before housing them individually. There are so many places like grocery stores, factories and other buildings that have been closed down and used for nothing. If a church and government could use one of these to house all of them together and have some of them do janitorial duties, have a food area set up, clothing area and beds everywhere. Have volunteer counsellors and medical teams. Pay a few security guards to keep peace and keep drugs etc out. Just have them in one warm place thats got walls and a roof. Get them clean from drugs for those that need it. Figure out how to help individuals at the same time they have a roof. They have an address, support, help, healthcare, care for the disabled and mothers. Then they can find permanent housing bit by bit according to the needs of each individual or family. Then jobs like mcdonalds, salvation army thrift store, cleaning, hotels, convienience stores etc. And jobs for those who have degrees if they want that. Alot of these are jobs no one else wants.
