Okay, I'm glad I wasn't the only one who was completely confused when Ratha fainted and Cheval started to accuse us for making Ratha suffer because of our "obsession with taking down Nergigante." That entire scene and dialogue made no sense to me. We were just trying to take out a rage-ray to prevent any other misfortunes. This had nothing to do with the Nergigante whatsoever.

I believe his point wasn't that we were 'obsessed' with taking down Nergigante, per se; it's that our drive to stop a rage-rayed Nergigante (an elder dragon) was making us overlook the danger/health of putting Ratha (a weak(-by-comparison) flying wyvern) into this matchup in the first place. ^Aka, something along the lines of "You may believe in the power of friendship, but it's blinding you to reality" type of thing. Not quite communicated clearly, but by itself, not exactly an invalid thing for a cynical character to believe/point out

Also, Oltura is officially labeled as a normal Elder Dragon, not a Black Dragon

The drama with Ratha after the Astalos fight seems like they just really messed up on the writing. They say Ratha is dying and gets closer whenever he fights a Rage-Rayed monster, but the situation gets confused because Cheval changes the subject to your character being obsessed with Nergigante, despite only just learning about it. If they wanted to do the whole 'angry at Nergigante' plot point, they should've revealed that it took a part in Red's death sooner, and more importantly have it show up before the player sooner too. Like have a scripted battle where you're supposed to lose to it, so the player and character both have a personal vendetta against Nergi, thus setting up that the player character would be obsessed with it and sacrificing Ratha's health to get to it.

It's a repeat of the plot point with the legiana i think. Plus, while our character is displayed as conflicted about nergi, Ena seems to genuinely want revenge, and Naviru is being Naviru and not really seeing the potential consequences of their actions. Going for the obvious answer and not thinking. Like he did with Reverto. Who was trying to teach us to pay attention to the monsters the entire time. Which honestly parrelles this moment a lot better than the legiana one now that I'm writing it. Anyways, I think they meant to have Chevyal address the group as a whole not just the PC. It could have been done better. Maybe with a cutscene when we first enter the volcanic gates. But I kind of got what they were going for.

Cheval is only speaking from experience, he sees a young, reckless rider with a struggling bond between them and their monstie. He even apologizes because he realized what he said was too far showing that he has most definitely matured. And to add to that our rider doesn't fully understand the weight of ratha's power at this point in the story and us being a relatively new rider tend to just run into battles one after another unknowingly causing Ratha pain. Cheval still has strong feelings about his past so its understandable that he lashed out like he did. Although I admit it was sudden.

If I had to make sense of Cheval's speech I think he means that our character should've realized that Ratha has been suffering everytime he was near a rage-rayed monster as it is a pattern we see. Most of the time whenever Ratha fights a rage-rayed monster, the wings of ruin activate and Ratha starts to get agitated. The characters never thought to consider this and just fight every rage-rayed they see. As for the Nergigante part. Our character's goal would soon take them to the Nergigante for clues. So, in a sense, their goal has always been to find the Nergigante, they just didn't know it yet. Yeah, Cheval's speech was poorly worded.

Our character wants revenge for Red and wants to prove their strength against the Astalos instead of walking away to plan. Cheval was harsh because he wanted to stop the character's revenge right there. Yes, you can argue about the rage rayed stuff hurting Ratha is crap, but our character is pushing their monsties to fight for revenge, kinda like how Cheval was with Rathi.

When I saw this I thought that it would be like Dalamadur but like a rattlesnake,the "mouth" would have been the rattle and it has the light to intimidate,and in the end the head would have appeared and revealed the true form,I'm fine with what we have though
