Brian wrote this song for the Japanese fans who were the first to fully embrace them. They were shocked when they arrived at the airport and people were acting like they were the Beatles. They hadn't experienced that degree of fame up to that point. There was a lot of security and they were not allowed to interact with the fans which was disappointing to the band members because up to that point they had always taken time to stop, thank and spend time with their fans, sign autographs, etc.

Interesting! I've heard that Japanese fans are incredibly loyal. I know many acts whose popularity has waned in the West, but they still maintain a devoted Japanese fanbase. It was good of Queen to take a moment to commemorate their early Japanese fans. I'm sure they're loyal to this day.

Such a beautiful song by Brian, and Freddie sang it so perfectly!

According to the book "Queen: All the Songs" by Benoît Clerc, "Teo Torriate" backing vocals were provided by Roger, Brian, and "a number of folks who were there that day" (probably studio personnel and/or friends, not a hired choir).

Queen specially flew their Japanese interpreter to London to get the lyrics right. The song was performed live from 1979 onwards, but only in Japan.

Freddie repeated all of the Japanese lyrics during a radio interview with Kenny Everett, on Capital Radio in November 1976, when tracks from A Day At The Races were played.

This was a song that they wrote for their Japanese fans. They were really the first to acknowledge that they were as big as they were. It is such a beautiful song that was written by Brian. Thanks for all your Queen reactions, and now onward to the next album.

The end is a shepard tone, it fools you into thinking the sound is heading up (or down) but it isn't...just a loop over and over. An auditory illusion!

Queen is nothing if not intricate and elaborate with their sonic tones!

I imagine an infinite spiral when I hear the A Day At The Races intro and outro. It's reminiscent of the guitar on Led Zeppelin's Kashmir.

This song was written by Brian as a thank you to their Japanese fans. It's nice, but probably my least favorite song on the album. Freddie's vocals are beautiful, but we got the same caliber vocals on "Take My Breath Away," so I don't really get anything here that I can't find somewhere else.
