Very strange coincidence today. I watched this video in the morning. Completely new to me. Then went to what was basically an estate sale an hour after watching and found a foil print of this castle. The owner let me take it for free. I don't think it is worth anything but I couldn't not take it, especially for free. I just find the odds really strange so I had to let everyone know.

I did four washes before a good one. The relaxed wash does not soak the paper as much, allowing for more water. Remember to leave white areas, everybody!

Having painting as a hobby from my childhood, I have been come across many paintings and painting style. And after the birth of KZbin , I started enjoying learning painting through good tutorial videos here. But this is a wonderful video, which introduced a wonderful and different technique to me, actually which I never came across and studied all these years. Simple and lucid teaching. Thank you.

Oh - what brush did you use to apply your color? Your brush seemed to have the perfect ratio of water to paint. Could you also add water first then paint over the water? Or would that make the paint too transparent?
@teohyc
@teohyc 8 жыл бұрын
The brush I used is the Nevskaya Palitra brush. It's a sable brush. Other brands will perform similarly. I did not use too much water so as not to make the surface too wet. Yes, you can wet the paper first. It will create a softer look and none of the hard edges. kzbin.info/www/bejne/mJ_dk31urNhli5I

Hi Teoh! I like this technique very much! I have watched this video various times, and will be trying it soon. My favorite painting is the lighter one because of the awesome shadow contrasts. My favorite part of that painting is the back tower to the right. The contrast there is wonderful, and really makes it appear to be cast in strong sunlight against shadow. Very nice! 😊💐 P.S. Please let me know if that book is ever back in print. It looks amazing! I will check out Book 2.

Don't get me started....this is the beginning of that famous wet-in-wet watercolour technique that everyone loves...this is how I start many of my watercolours...For one thing. Here are several tips: You can also use a hair dryer to dry it within minutes instead of waiting overnight. There are dozens of textural effects you can achieve by playing with wet in wet (applying wet paint to still freshly applied paint), wet on dry or dry brush effect on dry paper. If you drop wet paint into an area that is already wet with a different colour you can also let the two colours blend. You can poke at the wet paper at various stages of wetness with different things to make different types of marks etc. You can sprinkle the wet paint just before it looses that shiny wetness with small amounts of things like fine salt or coarse salt or fine sand or coarse sand or rubbing alcohol. You an vary the effect by dropping the second colour into the first at varying stages of dryness of the first colour. To force the combination colours to blend different ways try tilting your paper to allow the two colours to mingle in different ways while everything is still very wet. Try applying plain water to the paper then with the tip of your brush drop in some very thick paint...different colours react differently. Some implode, some explode, some explode slowly others much faster.... While the paper is still damp, not completely dry, but just about to lose that shiny wetness you can also texture it by damaging the paper surface with the tip of the brush handle or your finger nail or twine of a fork or even a thumb print if you press it hard enough, or anything hard. These are just a few watercolour techniques that can be played with.

Sorry about the rant above...Teoh, you touched a nerve in me...I have a passion for watercolours and oils...just HAD to share what I know...there now that I said it...hope you experiment with watercolours and use some watercolour blending effects in your sketchbook. There are other techniques where less water is used and a more controlled blending is achieved. But the wet in wet is the most "free" and yields the most delightful effects! Hope you enjoy it!
