Norway here, awesome to see some knifes that I can get here like the Terava Jaakaripuuko and Mora. One of the things I love about your vids is that you hear whats happening in the background and to see the kids and animals. I like the realness and thats its not studio polished I guess. Keep up the great work.

I own this same knife and it's go to EDC every day, but I was only able to get the knife but I'm getting the sheath next month. I am very stoked on getting my leather sheath. The best knife that I own so far. Sorry for the spelling. I really like your video's. I own a few good blades. Thank you Sir. Happy New Year to you and your family. God Bless

I love mine but I got the 140 cause I thought 110 wouldn't be big enough for big stuff but will get one for my doubts sheath I'm getting made as my food prep an skinning knife, an the skrama for bigger tasks.
@whynottalklikeapirat

I don’t skin game so I don’t know but is a scandi grind like thise good for that? I mean - these knives dig In so I imagine they’d bite rather than glide along. Probably not comparable but I tried cleaning and fileting a cod with the 110. Too thick for a clean job of course but more importantly it would catch on the bonesrather than slide along. Part of the impracticality is due to the steeper angle you have to hold the knife for the the scandi grind to lay flat on the bones, of course you can do it but it’s not “the right knife for the job” in that sense. I thought something similar might apply to skinning?

I freaking love my jakaarripukko. I have the same one and that leather sheath might be the best leather sheath I've ever had. I sharpened mine up to a mirror polish on the KME and it is scary, terrifyingly sharp. And the 80crv2 does hold a great edge. I'm not a huge fan of maxamet personally. I imagine that you won't be either after it comes time to sharpen it Haha... If you do sharpen it You should make a video about it.

Thats what I love about that heavy blade. You can actually even do a bit of debranching due to that extra weight, which a lot of more carving style knives won’t allow for at that size …
@whynottalklikeapirat
@whynottalklikeapirat 2 жыл бұрын
Honestly I think the 110 is more generally useful than the 140. It’s not practical with a long blade for many of the small to medium tasks you’d do with a knife like this. If I wanted to do heavier things I’d probably go with something more substantial than the 140 anyway. That said, I do see some uses for that longer blade as well, for me it just falls in between my duku chandong parang and the need for a standard knife. Anyways - the 110 is awesome. I made a sheath for it inspired by the original but frankly a bit nicer. I didn’t have the plastic insert so I just made one out of a thin plastic, mostly just to waterproof it a bit more … I am a lifelong mora user, not even the more modern ones but the classic red woodhandled ones. I’ve sworn by them in no small part due to their simplicity which affords extremely varied use - but this one is kind of that with a step up in terms of heavy use you can expose it to.
@escapetherace1943
@escapetherace1943 Жыл бұрын
you're just wrong. The 140 is only 5.5 inches. It's not in the long blade range, it's a medium length. The only reason you need a thick full tang like this is so it can stand up to batoning, and batoning is a lot better right at the 5 to 8 inch range. This is a bushcraft knife anyway, and the 140 isn't incapable of anything the 110 can do, it's visa versa actually. What small tasks can't it do, name some. The 140 is also in the sweet spot as a survival knife size without being too clunky, where the 110 is simply too short for a survival blade length. It all depends on what you want out of the blade. The 140 is simply better for an all-rounder knife that can do anything if you need it to. To disagree is to cope. The 110 is a good knife but you'd want that larger, machete-type blade or a hatchet with it, but then what good is the full tang for? Not much, it would be extra, dead weight. It would be better to carry a much lighter knife and a machete then. Yet for the general person, they aren't carrying multiple knives/tools. So if you're gonna buy a beast blade, you may as well get the all-rounder that will actually be put to the task and that will actually server you better in SHTF or whatever people see themselves needing indestructible knives to baton with. And moreover, I'm speaking from experience. I have a garberg which is almost 1:1 the size of the 110 and the size class of blade is actually terrible and annoying for heavy bushcraft use. Both those knives need to be a minimum of 5 inch.

@@escapetherace1943 You know - the best way of starting a conversation is not going “you are wrong”. Especially when no monolithic or generalising statements have been made on my part. I am talking about this from my point of view, and from my field of usage, and my needs which I believe we can agree you can have precious little knowledge of - which may explaing why you wander off into your own world of perceived needs in your comment, rather than anything I really expressed: - I did not categorise the 140 as a long blade in any generalised sense. I was not out to create interesting technical categories. I was pointing out that it was longer than the 110 and I personally find that to be redundant in my setup, in part because the function of a heavier blade is already covered. - No - the only reason you may need a full tang blade is not batoning, it’s for general stability, and flexibility of use. - You can lable it a bushcraft knife all you like, it’s not a protected title, but I never said anything about that anyway. I ALSO never said that the 140 is INCAPABLE of anything, I said that a smaller blade is more practical for certain things, which is just obviously true - and vice versa. I am not going to sit here and write a list of small jobs where a longer blade gets more in the way, and may incidentally offer a bit less safety of use. if you can’t think of any scenario where a shorter blade is preferable and more comfortable to use, I don’t know what else to do for you. - I never expressed ANY desire to baton with the 110. In fact I don’t baton with any knives, partly because there is no need to, for what I do, partly because there is no problem in bringing a tool meant for that job. - Then you get on about “survival knife” which apparently is the same in your mind as a bushcraft knife. Whatever floats your boat. I never even breached the subject of survival, because that’s actually not what successful outdoor life IS about. And don’t start on the what ifs, because those are what’s covered by bringing proper versatile gear for the situation, that includes redundancy. - Then you introduce the “allrounder” as a value, which is also something I have not expressed any opinion about. I am not interested in any allrounder tools, I am interested the right setup for what do. If you need “allround gear” knock yourself out. - Damn straight I want the parang because it will do bunch of shit the 140 won’t, eliminating the need for an axe or folding saw or any other supplementary knife for that matter, if it comes down to basic important functions. That’s the ACTUAL “allrounder”, in my setup, if you really want to get into it, because it means more versatility per unit of weight. - Speaking of dead weight - I am bringing the Puukko because I like it and have made room for it on the total balance. But I would have absolutely no problem bringing a 60 gram wood handle classic mora, which is what I have done most of my life. If you want to think about weight vs. Function you can consult the list at the bottom of this comment at your leisure. - I also don’t give a rolling donut what the general person does. I live off the land and sea for months, on my own, in the arctic with the gear I bring, I am not in the boy scouts or out car camping or living in some postapocalyptic fantasy - which is also why I am not looking for a “beast” anything. I am looking for specific functionality, versatility and redundancy inside a reasonable overall window of weight, and I balance that partly depending on how stationary I intend to be. - If you have suffered in the past using shorter blades, it’s probably because you thought it was a grand idea to only bring one tool for everything. - And by the way I don’t tend to baton with machetes either, because it’s my opinion that batoning no way to treat a tool you are TRULY relying on for your safety. ESPECIALLY if you are only bringing one of them. As a matter of personal preference, and some degree of necessity, I keep fires small and to an absolute minimum. But you go ahead and baton yourself a log cabin home with a full fireplace if that’s what gets you through the night. You know - we could have had a decent conversation, about this if you’d opted for less of didactic attitude and less of a know-it-all approach, inventing a bunch of problems on my behalf just so you had some solutions to deliver. Frankly your desire for a beast, allrounder, survival, bushcraft, do-it-all knife, whatever the Hell that means, with no redundancy, leaves me doubting you spend extended periods of time outside in scenarios where actual survival could be predictably be on the table. Seems like rather careless planning ahead if you ask me me. Just don’t lose it is my advice. And that’s the only piece of advice you’ll hear from me, btw because (like me incidentally) I didn’t hear you ask for any. For general clarification, should you care, this is what I do: - Mora/puukko style small blade. - Either 8”, 10” or 12” duku chandung parang, depending on location and situation. - Small folding saw (somewhat optional). - Multitool. - Since I spearfish for a living, when I am out, I also bring a diving knife, with a serrated spine (This btw. is also why I have to be even more weight conscious in the grand scheme of things than your “general person”).

@@whynottalklikeapirat sorry not reading that manifesto past 1 line per paragraph. Clearly you're the one with "precious little" of your own knowledge because you were still unable to say what specific tasks a knife only 1.2 inches shorter would be better at. Your 'opinion' is a bad one, and regardless of your setup (parangs are terrible machetes), you made a blanket statement generalizing the blade length. So cope buddy. 😂

Can i recommend that you get an Leuku knife. It is Saami knife or Lapland knife. Well, this jääkäripuukko is, well, puukko. Puukko is unic style of knife and puukko translates as knife i guess. And when to translate Terävä Jääkäripuukko to englis, it is Sharp Jaegerknife. And Jaeger means light infantryman? Correct if im wrong.

I don't agree about the comfort you say,It's handle makes my hands muscles hurt after a couple of minutes feathering a stick.Also this grind is a saber grind and not a scandi which adds to how bad the knife performs trying to carve wood.This is not a bushcraft knife,however the Skrama and the 140 puukko can be cosindered as very good survival knives. PS the sheath is very difficult to use and the leather is very cheap and thin,that means that if you accidentally hit something while you walk and the knife is on your side,it gets damaged very easily. I wanted to like the 110 but the only thing I like,is the steel.

I would argue that wood carving is pointless for a bushcraft knife. A saber grind is actually superior because it dulls slower to the tough stuff you need, and will take shavings of wood for fire starting just as easy anyway.
