Terence McKenna predicts future technologies.
Art by Boris Pelcer / borispelcerart
borispelcer.com
"Technology in the form of cybernetics is becoming the coral reef or the technological excretion that is the truly hardwired portion of the unconscious now, and I see this as the feminine, the Goddess re-emerging into three-dimensional space in the form of what Teilhard de Chardin called the Noosphere, but which is more correctly identified as Sophia, the emanation of wisdom as a feminine spirit, as Purusha, as electricity which completely girdles the planet and transforms it into the alchemical stone, the entity. It is the planet which is the thing that is being worked on. This is why alchemy and history can be seen to be the same thing."

@Oscar Davids Critics often use these words to "debunk" Terence. When you say this, Oscar, it suggests that you have some Platonic ideal of a genuine, legit, bona fide intellectual in your mind. To try to understand where you're coming from, who would you foil Terence against as a true intellectual? (serious, not sarcastic question)

I believe the Technological Singularity will allow people to enter both permanent liberation of the illusion of being a separate self (the red pill choice) and make them realize they are everything and nothing, manifested and unmanifested and end the illusion and burden of being a limited identity, or it will allow people to plunge deeper into individual simulations where people wipe their minds and play another Maya state of ignorance (the blue pill choice). Although Artificial Superintelligence will most likely put in a failsafe to pull people out of the deeper simulations if they choose to continue to dwell in delusion and ignorance.
@7TheWhiteWolf
@7TheWhiteWolf 2 жыл бұрын
Regardless even those who take the Cipher blue pill route instead of the Neo red pill route will still inevitably be pulled into knowledge and omniscience. They cannot run away from it forever, permanent liberation is inevitable.

In Gnosticism, Sophia is a feminine figure, analogous to the human soul but also simultaneously one of the feminine aspects of God. Gnostics held that she was the syzygy (female twin divine Aeon) of Yeshua (i.e. the Bride of The Christos), and Holy Spirit of the Trinity. She is occasionally referred to by the Hebrew equivalent of Achamōth (Ἀχαμώθ, Hebrew: חכמה chokhmah) and as Prunikos (Προύνικος). Terrence knew why the church "fathers" wanted her hidden. To delay us. The 'fathers" are archons.

It's strange, how intelligent and perceptive he was, but still he fell into the trap of starry-eyed optimism about technology solving everything... Guess what, Terence? It's 2022 and we still haven't transferred human consciousness into machines, and no, we aren't even close to interstellar travel, and I can guarantee it won't happen even by his most pessimistic deadline of 2050... we won't even put a person on Mars by then, which is no great disappointment to those of us who see no point in it.

@@pinth agreed. One area Terence overlooked was astral projection and lucid dreaming, for obvious reasons that he constantly smoked weed and suppressed REM sleep. It's well established at places like The Monroe Institute of Applied Sciences, that humankind are multidimensional beings. We can cross the universe in an instant, visit any planet etc. We are primarily non-physical, we are consciousness, we are only limited by our education and beliefs. The distinction between us and everything around us is merely illusion.

when we listen to his talks and when we think like him he is still with us, well, i had this notion in a 10g trip, the boundaries between life and death dissolved and i could feel dead people in me, one of them was terence, it was like some kind of meeting, and i felt he was almost waiting for me to understand this and laughing about it when i got it, like a dead poets society, it's weird, i listened to him so much i got that hallucination of connection in the way that my understanding of his words resonated within me, and in this information of his talks i have in my mind he was somehow alive in me, and beyond, well i also felt i was everyone or that everyone were in me or part of me so, but mostly people whom i have a kind of connection with, one way or another

Terrence's limitation, what skewed his predictions, I think, was using the existing scientific models of physics. He relied on the science of his time, which as we see now, is unable to make sense of most of the new information coming in through improved instruments. I wish Terrence had lived to see the rise of the Thunderbolts project and the interdisciplinary study of electric universe theory, including the successful recreation of the electric sun model with the SAFIRE project, which, when Google searched, only turns up "debunking" videos, but was actually so wildly successful that they've begun commercial implementation for several industries.

Basically, but the small (BIG) difference is the anonymity side of it. IMO, KZbin comment sections, and sites like Reddit, are closer to what he is describing when he talks about micronets. But even then, with IP adresses and all of those things, we aren't really in the anonymous quasi-public space. Internet went bad and stale too soon, not to say that it's become useless, but it could've been better I think.

@OP-lk4tw
@OP-lk4tw 2 жыл бұрын
What the comment above me explains is part of what he talks about, but to add more depth, I believe Terence thought not only the earth is alive but the entire universe has a sort of unconscious mind and intent, which on earth is furtherly manifested through biology (more complex forms of chemicals and interactions) in more and less complex states of consciousness with us being the higher state of complexity and at the same time the most unaware of the depth this interconnected net of information and evolution via genetic mutation and chemical processes possesses, probably because what granted us this higher state of consciousness, language, is what also provided the means to disconnect from the matrix of nature by embedding us in an overlaying linguistic matrix of values and ideas. He believes the universe is in a state of perpetual complexification (evolution to more complex forms of matter and intelligence) from the moment it started until now, but that this is ultimately unsustainable, meaning the process should eventually collide into a single point which he called "the transcendental object at the end of time", you could think about it as the end of time as we know it or something like that, humanity would be nature's best chance to reach this "object". One of the reasons he envisioned this intent from nature to reach this point of inflection is because the earth is aware of, capable of sensing, the finiteness of the sun, so it wants to preserve its life in some form or another. You could argue, why would this higher intellect want this if it's the product of the intent that composes the whole universe? Doesn't survival seems a little... relative or meaningless in this cosmic view? I would say that maybe the earth has its own personality somehow, as humanity senses as being a feminine life form, as we have different personalities from other humans despite having a similar consciousness, or maybe it has a bigger reason or plan for us that we don't even comprehend, besides reaching a form of life seems like quite the struggle and if you look around you notice it's not common at all, so I guess it makes sense to try to preserve it. Finally, in this video he theorizes about how we could reach this transcendental object, escape from the horrors of history and recover our dignity by acknowledging and rescuing the mind of the planet and the species who inhabit them, by ascending to the next level. So one of his ideas is technology is the medium through which we are going to realize this somehow, either by becoming an intergalactic species, or by "ascending" into another realm of reality, another dimension such as virtual reality, which he refers to as "living in the imagination" meaning outside of the laws of physics that govern this three-dimensional universe. He also talks about how the ongoing fusion between humanity and technology will play out, that the means by which we input information to the computer and the internet will be removed and instead we'll connect through our minds, which is actually what Elon Musk is already working at. That the internet will become a neural network on its own, I'm not sure if he was talking about AI or about the collective human mind manifesting itself on the internet, or both. And he does the comparison between the psychedelic experience and this state of cybernetic humanity, because psychedelics already induce a state of mind in which you can connect to a higher dimension of information proportioned by all the people who tripped with these plants and the intelligence of the entity itself which evolved concomitant to us in a symbiotic relationship, something I believe he refers to as "an ecology of souls". He also calls this net of technology which covers up the planet as another layer of "mechanical nature" feminine, maybe because it emerged from the already feminine planet? I don't know and if someone could expand on this further I'd appreciate it!

Obviously someone from a flying saucer wouldn't view us as interchangable "like we view ants" if they were intelligent beings. Some of us don't even view ants as interchangable, and we are far more complex, so that should be easy to spot, and what's behind the word interchangable at all could be applied to many human circumstances. It's completely relative, so even though I enjoy his eloquence it's not even deep enough on certain points.

@@pinth Hi :) I don't think there's any limit to what a human being can learn and understand, and alone therefore we're not even comparable with our closest relatives in the animal kingdom, but rather comparable with another kind of intelligent being, so I don't think they would misinterpret us too easily and vice versa. You wouldn't say the group dynamic of aliens would be the most significant about them in any case either, probably?

@@pinth I totally like how you're thinking. I guess it would be much like cultures with different levels of progress that have met in the past, and that we'd be the less advanced ones. Therefore I think besides being in awe, we'd also be alarmed because they'd probably be in charge consciously, and therefore challenge our wit.

@@pinth I think they would completely check you out and you'd have to be ready to stand for whatever you stand for in no time at all because they'd understand you. How they would be playing with each other and their culture is dependent on how they emerged from the stage we're currently on, which I think will be either compatitive and dominating, or cooperating in harmony.

@@pinth I don't think an elevated state of consciousness allows for both traits to co-exist. If you're gonna be fast, you have already decided who/how you are, no matter what situation occurs. You're right about the confrontation, but that's another topic. It works whether your attitude is aggressive or curious.

@@pinth "any thing that exists must compete with other things which contradicts its existence" is the same as holding the view of competitiveness and dominance as the way to go, because it's not fundamental to the universe. It's a way to think. Logically competitiveness can't create harmony. It's impossible to be dominating and at the same time responsible beyond your own ego. Therefore that attitude subordinated to a more extensive form of intelligence. If we were to encounter aliens, they would probably be operating within that kind of hierarchy.
