I'll be more worried about an "AI takeover" of the world when image generation algorithms can more consistently understand the number of fingers human beings possess and how human mouths work, lol. Granted, it is progressing at an incredible rate, but what we've got now are some clever computer programs/algorithms being fed a mountain of image/text data - we're a LONG way from self-aware computers. We don't even really fully understand how our own brains/sentience works in 2024, so I don't see sentient computers being a thing for many decades.

Agreed. Even the best interactive AIs are just glorified chat bots with search engine access. Plus, the hardware isn't even a tenth of the way there yet. The most powerful supercomputer we have could _maybe_ manage something with the intellect of a housecat. And the programming for even something that rudimentary has gone nowhere yet.
