When screwing them up against the wall you should use a fender washer underneath that screw, to distribute the load on that plastic bottle now hanging

What is the purpose of having the couple inches of water underneath the containing vessel, early on? Is it due to the fact that plants may be able to sense and seek water downward therefore if it was dry they would not grow so well but with that water in the container below it will seek it?

And after a couple weeks there was green algae in the water, how did you get rid of that green

I think it is to keep his rice husk mulch from drying out. Taking the top half off, turning the bottom over and washing out would get rid of the algae.

It's the wicking action of the soil. Dry always pulls water up. They use to sell what was called a hydro pot that worked on this principle. It even had a float to notify you when the water needed to be topped off.

@TheParkAttendant yes that part is known in simple, and it is called osmosis. But this guy did not put the water above the dirt-filled upper bottle half. It appears as if he filled it up about a quarter of an inch below the small opening/ bottle cap

@@rickrack4812 Covering the water parts of the container from the sun prevents algae from growing. So, I put masking tape on my bottles. I'm doing this now and the plants are growing even in the Fall. No flowers after a month. At first, I thought it was like the Kratky Method but using soil as the substrate. My other thought is that it is "bottom watering" slowly.
