@sophholl37823 ай бұрын
EVERYONE should have Mung bean and other edible sprouting seeds in their survival bag. They can be grown without any light and really only need any clean container and small amount of clean water. They grow fast, in 3-6 days depending on the seed sprout, they are ready to eat. Seedlings are considered super foods - very nutritious and, they don't need to be cooked. If you want to add them to cooked foods, throw them in at the last minute so they don't lose all their nutritional value. I use Mung, radish, lentil, broccoli, beet, and alfalfa seeds for sprouting. There are many others that are great as well. Each has it's own flavor, nutritional value, and texture. They are amazing in salads, omelets, stir fry, stews, on a sandwich etc. A little goes a long way which you will learn when you start growing your own. Have fresh produce in the winter without going to the store or having a green house. A little cupboard works great. USE NON GMO SEEDS and buy from a reputable source.

Since I don’t have any access to buying bamboo leaves nor banana leaves nor the XL (dark) plastic bags, I would first cover the beans with parchment paper, and then with tinfoil
@syzygy67693 ай бұрын
You're supposed to keep the beans and the sprouts in the dark. He uses banana leaves because they are free and readily available to him and the plastic bags are cheap and reusable. Parchment paper and tinfoil are not economical or environmental friendly.
@ssbhatia3 ай бұрын
The basic reason for covering is to prevent the chlorophyll from being generated. Traditionally at home, one sprout a lot less (one fist full is enough for couple of days). You can use a colander strainer with a bowl and cover it with any dark damp cotton cloth. Make sure to store in a dark corner or else you’ll have green leaves instead of white sprouts.

Having reptiles in bioactive tanks, the clean up crew ( bugs ) in them loved getting sprouted mung beans and the like. Take some mixed mung beans and lentils, sprout a few days and throw in a bowl with a few inches of soil. They make a lovely mixed plant that looks great and good to fed off when spent.
