Nice video! How did you cut the MDF to the shape you wanted? Did you use tools, or did you just use a knife?

azncowman mainly I used a scroll saw to cut out the shape then a hacksaw to take of any edges and finally a dremel to bevel the edges ( you could use a sharp blade for that as an alternative)

Thank you! Unfortunately I don't have a scroll saw. Would a sharp knife work?

a knife would work on thinner MDF, but when your basing something don't go any thinner than 5mm this reduces the chance of warping. instead of a scroll saw you could give one of these ago (see link), the blade can be turned while sawing which makes ideal for odd shapes. www.diy.com/departments/stanley-fatmax-steel-saw/213587_BQ.prd

Thanks so much! I live in Canada, so I'll try and find something similar to that. Also, have you tried basing on vinyl tiles? Not sure if it's the same name where you live, but I've heard it's pretty durable and cheap. Does seem a little thinner than mdf though.

azncowman vinyl tiles are a great alternative but they can warp in certain shapes. You can solve that by lining the underside with brown parcel tape, it won't stretch so it reduces the chance of warping. I will be releasing a working with MDF video so you can see the tools I use.
