I think Bosses with multiple segments (WoF, EoW, Moon Lord) only spawn the “main” segment. Moon Lord’s core is considered the main segment but it is usually invincible until you defeat the eyes, which is why it didn’t have a health bar.

My hypothesis is that the old one's army portals acquired bat AI. Thus, instead of spawning enemies they just fly around. They might have turned invisible like the golem, or they never animated themselves visible to begin with. Again, just a silly theory.

Huh... I decided to test my "all NPC:s have slime AI" idea and installed a "all NPCs have any AI" mod. Mobs having slime AI was somewhat amusing, but I found some other AI's more amusing. For instance setting all NPCs to have blazing wheel AI caused them to zoom around across solid blocks, doing cartwheels as they went. Spike ball AI caused them (also mobs such as zombies) to be attached to a chain, swinging around. Flying weapon AI caused all mobs (including NPCs) to home in on PC just like actual flying weapons. Mimic AI caused them to stay still until the PC approached and they then started to bounce towards the PC. Unicorn AI caused all mobs to charge at PC. WoF AI just seemed to instantly kill all NPCs (?!) Bird AI caused mobs to flee from PC if he got close. Then I tested turtle AI and as expected mobs (including slimes and critters) started launching themselves at the PC just like turtles, but I noticed that mob drops were....strange. Suddenly green slimes, jungle slimes and critters were dropping things such as demonite bars, worm food and workbenches. It seems that having turtle AI on all NPCs really messes up drops. Or perhaps my game was just messed up from all AI tests...
