This is a Terraria run that uses some of the mechanics of Majora's Mask, one of my favourite Zelda games. Every three days, the world is wiped clean, and we need to start from scratch. However, we get to keep three items, along with our knowledge of the world. It should be interesting...

Ranger seems like to worst class for this, since you need ammo Then summoner, since they usually need a lot to work well Melee and Mage seem like the best, since you only ever really need one melee weapon and mana carries over

Mana is heavily based on having accessories tho so I think melee is the only easy option

@@pengxu9244 you’d need to get the arms dealer in every world, so you’d have to waste time building houses. Or you could just have a magic weapon or a sword and go straight to murder

This is a genius idea for a playthrough! My personal opinion is that you should keep the Phoenix Blaster so you don’t have to hunt down for ammunition in the next cycle by already having the Arms Dealer. Everything else is fair game, but I think you should put a twist on the challenge where for every major progression point you pass, one extra slot is added to the pool of items you can bring to the next world. It would be nice if you weren’t stuck with only a Terra Blade for fighting Golem.

With Majora's mask, your items and masks stay unlocked and upgraded between resets, so it seems reasonable to keep equipped armors and accessories in addition to the 3 items

i feel like in future parts of this you should probably make it so that alongside the three items you have an axe and pickaxe guaranteed without taking up one of those slots, since those are pretty much required for most things

Maybe when you go into Hard Mode nextt time, you can up the amount you take in per cycle to 4 or 5, like how you'd get an extra accessory slot in Expert mode after WoF

I think that if you do keep going with this series, you should make boss defeats permanent like in Majora's Mask. That way you wouldn't have to rush to defeat all the other bosses up to that point, though I'm not sure how that would work with the boss loot :/

I d take the molten pickaxe to get to the underworld and so you can mine hardmode ores, the shadow key to open shadow chests for lots of useful loot (you can just get the meteorite bars from the shadow chests so no need to bring those over), and rocket boots for the needed mobility. (I assume your not allowing armor, money, and ammo to be carried over)

If 3 days is 1 hour 12 minutes than you could get past plantera before your first cycle ends, considering the world record of killing moon lord is 1 hour 20 minutes

although it may ruin the spirit of the challenge, i feel like you could go into TEdit after each boss is completed and mark it in there as beaten when you generate a new world. I feel like to be able to beat moon lord, that would practically be necessary since rng could (and probably will) screw you over in the end

Does the world keep it's 'checks'? Like EoW defeated, Hardmode etc.

I think it would be awesome to see more of this, I also think that certain milestones could be saved via TEdit, like once you beat the Wall of flesh, using Tedit set the recreated world to hardmode with pre-hardmode bosses defeated.

The main concern I can foresee is late hard mode when you’ll have to do a boss rush with 3 items in less than an hour in order to make any real progress.

it is normal mode so i dont think a boss rush would be that horrible, getting the spawners really would suck though prehardmode is really lenient in that you can just skip all bosses and kill wall of flesh but hard modes gonna stink

First is wof then the Mechanical bosses + planterra + golem + lunatic cultist + the celestial pillars and finally the moon lord. Making 12 bosses if you include celestial pillars. That is a lot of bosses

@@Deltexterity you have to use the fragments from the pillars to craft the sigil (but you can’t use it if you start another lunar event) and moon lord spawns after you beat them anyway

I suggest you allow either the safe or the void storage from the Tavernkeeper be allowed to hold items and/or money(within a limit) the same way the bank worked in Majora's Mask. 3 items is gonna get harsh unless you get to start in hardmode now that you've gotten the wall down. regardless love it, gives a sense of urgency and changes what you focus on to progress either way. Nice work!

Personally, I think for when the cycle repeats itself bosses defeated should stay defeated like they do in majora's mask. Yeah, I've got nothing else to say.

@@kamdynwells4190 I kind of disagree, bc in Majora's Mask all world events reset once you go back in time. For example, the first boss poisons the swamp, and when you reset time the swamp returns to being poisoned until after you defeat the boss again. The only thing that persists through resets is that link keeps the mask I'd argue that a better "keeping the mask" mechanic in terraria would just be to allow an extra item or item slot per major boss you defeat

In this scenario, I'd consider it fine to take armor and accessories with you every cycle. That or slowly bump up the item slots you keep up to 10. Add an additional item to take back with you every cycle.

Yeah, I think this will be impossible if he can’t take his armor and accessories. However, if he takes those, I think the number of items he can take should be capped at 5

Personally, i think accessories should count as towards the "permanent" upgrades and should get kept every apocalypse cycle and not count towards your 3 items, but that's just me.

A good balance I think would be that only accessories in the worn slots (not vanity) can be kept. Any past that would need to take up an inventory slot.

Interesting run. Personally I'd say that equipped armor and accessories should carry over in addition to three chosen items, but that's just me

In MM, all equipment and quest items carry over, and that means defeated bosses, in the form of masks or weapons. And knowledge, player knowledge and Link knowledge, both carry over. In my opinion, armor and accessories should carry over, and all boss drops that you can't get elsewhere, (so demonite would be lost,) but not events, (much as I hate to say it,) and only progression bosses (so not EoC or EoW) with maybe an exception if they drop their masks? But definitely equipment.

Relics will have their own rankings: 3 bosses can make your equipment retained no matter how many times you reset. 5 bosses will make 3 of your accessories retained. 8 will make all accessories retained

I think you should be allowed to just keep accessories and armor, and maybe tools, when the world resets because in Majora's Mask you keep most non consumable options. You should also be allowed to keep money you put in a piggy bank. Another thing is maybe you should be able to keep more items, maybe like 5 or so. Idk, just some ideas I had for this

That would make the challenge less by a ton though. Sure he doesn't have potions but he's also playing on normal difficulty. This makes the game braindead on that difficulty if you have 500+ hours in the game or if you consistently challenge yourself. I agree to speed based accessories however.

Hardmode is gonna be hell, first thing is crafting or wait for the mechanical bosses to spawn then find the plantera bulb or wait for another to spawn then defeat golem, lunatic cultist and the pillars event to reach moonlord in only THREE days + farming for materials and weapons and have to deal with natural-spawn events like pirate invasion or martian madness

I'd say keep the meteorite, the molten pickaxe, and the rocket boots, since you can get Hermes boots back anyway.

the meteorite can be obtained from the shadow chests though, and if he keeps the key, he also gets access to more money and potions.

imo molten pickaxe, meteorite and key, as he'll have stuff and be able to go down and get actual weapons, then he could farm hellstone for a starting kit

@@mr.cauliflower3536 he can't easily get the rocket boots back though, and it's a really good accessory for combat. Taking the key AND the meteorite is useless, because he can find meteorite in the chests he opens with the key.

I do think there should be a way to increase the slots, but maybe not every boss Maybe every progression milestone instead-i.e., Wall of Flesh, Mechanical Bosses, Plantera, etc.

I love this idea. Though I think to even reach Moon Lord might be impossible unless you allow your world to start in hard mode after a while. To much RNG just for mech drops, plantera bulb and let alone the pillars.

def should keep everything in your equipment slots like armor, accessories, hooks and mounts at the start of the next cycle. It'll get very tedious otherwise and Link keeps all his equipment every cycle in MM anyway. Maybe allow money to be stored in the piggy too like Rupees in MM. You're gonna want a weapon every time too, so maybe that should be excluded from the 3 items. Link doesn't lose his sword either, so idk. Alternatively, you could make it so you get to keep one item for every boss you killed in that cycle, up to 1 hotbar (10 items). This allows some good progression scaling while still requiring some strategizing for each cycle.

Maybe tweaking the numbers a bit, but I really like this idea. Every (unique) boss (or two) that you defeat in a cycle lets you bring back one more inventory slot. That way there's also the pressure of a situation like "My plan is ruined if I can't take these _4_ items with me, and I didn't beat any bosses this round. Quick, summon the eye and and the eater we're out of time"

I feel like saving firecracker and getting obsidian armour is a good decision. It is some obsidian, eater of worlds and cobweb, pretty easy and nice to go with. Pickaxe and rocket boots may be the other choice, however, without goblin rocket boots are not so useful. Dynamite or gold coins may be better… About the weapons - having them for every class is not so useful, shadow key and meteorite go there too

Idea: Each cycle, you keep one extra item on top of the starting three to compensate for progression loss.

The 3 items you need in any playthrough: A weapon, some sort of combined pickaxe and axe, and a good pre-hardmode ore.

Uhh, yeah so the only pickaxe and axe combos are either the Drax, Pickaxeaxe or the Picksaw, all of which are locked behind the mechanical mayhem first and foremost, so yeah, a pickaxe is always better than anything, because it can double as a weapon, although a weak one, and it allows you to collect blocks which are important for building

More accurate rules is tools, weapons, armor and accessories you can keep as long as it's in your inventory, but everything else resets (Accessories and armor have to be equipped to spare.)

Rocket boots for sure. The mobility is so good in hard mode and you know where Hermes boots are so if goblins spawn you could make specter boots.

Concept: Upon reaching hardmode, you get to keep 3 inventory items, two accessories and 1 armor piece.

For this reset: Pickaxe, Dynamite, Firecracker*. Having Dynamite makes progression faster in general. Firecracker* best option for defense and should be a great weapon to kill wall of flesh and it's minions. And a pickaxe right now is required until you get hardmode ingots to stockpile. Maybe take more at certain checkpoints, like maybe 6? Checkpoints could be: Start of Hardmode, After Mech Bosses, After Golem and Post-Cultist. Creating backups would be handy for this. Inbetween though, you have to basically reach each checkpoint in 3 Terraria days else it resets to the most recent checkpoint, and then you still have to choose 3 items. Maybe with tweaking and changing checkpoints this could work out?

Having an extra item per boss you kill on the run may make the challenge easier and may help during hard mode

I absolutely love this! Maybe if it starts getting more difficult you could let armor and tools (not weapons) automatically transfer over along with the three items of your choosing. And maybe even an accessory

Someone should make this into a challenge mod, and give it a moon falling animation too Just like everyone else said, I think armor, accessories, and progression bosses should carry over.

Personally, I think you should be able to keep equipped accessories/armor between cycles since in MM you don’t loose masks or other important equipment between cycles

I'd keep the Rocket Boots. No need for the other weapons if you've got the meteorite, you have the pickaxe you'll need as well. Rocket Boots is extra mobility, and you won't have to wait for the Goblin Tinkerer to get them again

This is such a unique and truly amazing idea!! It’s also very well executed right off the bat! I think accessories should count as permanent upgrades personally, as well as armor, but if new items and abilities didn’t carry over in Majoras Mask then that makes sense. Unfortunately never really had a good opportunity to play it. Also I like the idea of bosses not carrying over and this ending up as a speed run to beat the required bosses in 3 Terraria days after enough cycles

someone should make this into a mod, so changes could be made to balance things a bit better and make it more like majoras mask (stuff like boss defeats and maybe NPCs carrying over, life crystals not respawning, alternate ways to store items like a much more limited piggy bank or safe, copper tools being gifted at the start) although it may not be possible

mage is probably the way to go. Keep the meteorite and the pickaxe, as well as the rocket boots. You can easily find hermes boots again easily, and who knows if you'll see another goblin army.

2:09 I feel like both accessories and vanity set should be fishable. Like seriously, not getting bundle of balloons just because pyramid decided to not give you sandstorm in a bottle or even not exist in a large world is very funny and common for me

What if for every boss mask you collect you gain 1 more inventory slot. This makes it harder than granting an extra slot after simply killing a boss. It pays a nice homage to Majora's Mask and implements a more collection-based progression style as opposed to a simple boss-rush style. It would slow the run down significantly to have to farm for bosses, or you could simply just take whatever masks the rng gods give you and not bother going out of your way to get more unless you get stuck.

I think that, while it would be less true to majora's mask, it would be cool if it was a new world every time instead of the same seed, so you can't just find the same stuff. Maybe this would also need you to have a larger amount of items you can carry over to make it less irritating.

i think hardmode should carry over between worlds (using TEdit of course) so you don't have to do the wall of flesh every single time- i have a feeling that it's gonna be tough scrambling to prepare and beating the wall on the first day, then immediately doing the three mechs in a row in ONE NIGHT, tnen praying plantera spawns before the second day, absolutely VAMOOSING to the temple and ripping apart golem, and doing the lunar events all in one day-

Seeded ML record is 1 minute slower than your 1:12 time limit, so this is definitely possible if you carry over a Daybreak, Wings, and Mechanical Skulls. We were talking a bit about something like this on the speedrunners’ discord earlier, so it’s super neat to see someone finally do it!

maybe add an extra slot for your items on the next cicle every time you kill 3 DIFERENT Bosses (just the first time you kill the boss for all the playtrough). so, theres 32 bosses (minus crimson boss, and moon lord because at that point its the end of the game so 30 in total), in the end you would get a maximum of 13 slots (10 slots + the 3 starting ones you already gave yourself) if you feel it's to easy, you can increase the number of required bosses per slot, maybe 5 bosses = 1 slot, so in the end you would get a total of 9 slots (6 slots + the 3 starting ones you already gave yourself) . =Pre-Hardmode bosses 1 King Slime 2 Eye of Cthulhu 3 Eater of Worlds 4 Brain of Cthulhu 5 Queen Bee 6 Skeletron 7 Deerclops 8 Wall of Flesh =Hardmode bosses 1 Queen Slime 2 The Twins 3 The Destroyer 4 Skeletron Prime 5 Plantera 6 Golem 7 Duke Fishron 8 Empress of Light 9 Lunatic Cultist 10 Moon Lord =Event bosses 1 Dark Mage 2 Ogre 3 Betsy 4 Flying Dutchman 5 Mourning Wood 6 Pumpking 7 Everscream 8 Santa-NK1 9 Ice Queen 10 Martian Saucer 11 Solar Pillar 12 Nebula Pillar 13 Vortex Pillar 14 Stardust Pillar

Personally, I would recommend a few rule changes: 1. Pickaxe transfers free. It’s pretty much mandatory to keep your current pickaxe in almost every scenario, so it’s pretty much a dead space. Plus with the time it takes to catch up to your Pickaxe level if you don’t transfer it, you’ll make no progress whatsoever. 2. One accessory transfers free. This will often be a movement accessory, but in Hardmode those tend to be mandatory for bosses if your armor isn’t great (like wings), and since the best armor you can get at the start of a cycle here comes from a stack of whatever material is on hand, it sounds like your armor will not be great. In any case, I feel you should keep the Rocket Boots, Pickaxe, and Stack of Meteorite Bars. The Rocket Boots will be extremely helpful in beating the Wall again, and if you can find a feather fall potion + obsidian skin potion, a Meteorite Armor + Space Gun should allow you to beat the Wall and grab the Pwnhammer, allowing you to grab a stack of Hardmode bars to set up for the next cycle so you can speedrun the Wall of Flesh. Plus it might make for an interesting opportunity to make equipment out of a material that isn’t Titianium or Palladium.

You should add in a rule that allows you to bring in more items after certain goals for example: Beating Skeleton: +1 item Beating WOF: +1 item Beating all 3 mechs: +1 item Beating plant and golem: +1 item Beating Cultist and pillars: Keep armor But you may say this is too powerful and gives you time to good off. But here’s the catch these goals must be completed each 3 days. So let’s say on Reset 3 you complete all mech bosses but on reset 4 you don’t you loose the extra item from the mechs from +3 back down to +2. This adds some more risk to it as you can bypass Skeletron on reset three if you don’t think you need his extra item because you will be able to take out the 3 mechs but if you fail you will be down one of the items you could bring before. Also I sense trouble with plant’s bulb spawning

Hey Canadien, I love this idea, but wanted to bring this to your attention.. Currently, the fastest 1.4 Set seed glitchless speedrun of Terraria is just shy of 1 hour and 14 minutes. At the end of this challenge, you've got to be able to beat that by two minutes, with just three items to help you. The one bit of good news is that that run wasn't optimized for the seed, whereas you can optimize for your seed. Just thought I'd bring that up as I haven't seen anybody else talking about it. I'd consider adjusting the rules to make it a bit more possible. I've seen some people suggest using the bank mechanic in MM. Perhaps you could carry over a set number of slots in the piggy bank? You'd still have to build NPC housing each reset, but the merchant isn't too difficult to get, and you only need bombs or a pickaxe plus the mushroom biome to make housing.

I'd probably go with one of the weapons so you can skip the dungeon and shadow chest phase. Hard to say which though. Sunfury is a strong pick, but you already have space gun as a spamable weapon. Pheonix blaster can turn the excess bars into meteor shot. Firecracker is technically a hardmode weapon, but I don't know how time consuming it is to spec into summoner properly. Another question is what is the next objective. I doubt a mechanical boss is in the cards, but I reckon wings, a lower tier hardmode ore that can be worked by a regular anvil, or even trying to get a better drop from WoF are possibilities to go for next. Wings definitely seem like a priority though.

A lot of comments here are about changing the rules on what items you can save, but here's a different idea: It makes sense that you have only 3 days. However, to make it so it's actually possible to do all that in just that allotted time, perhaps major progression milestones (Wall of Flesh, Plantera, etc.) would reset the timer and become the new point you fall back to after every 3 days in game?

I have a great idea for a series! "Terraria but every time I kill a boss, I have to change world." So basically, everytime you kill a boss, you have to change your current world and progress in a diffrent one, but to make the things easier, you can kill the same bosses you killed in the previous world without the need to change the current one. So basically: • you kill eye of cthuluh • you go to another world And in that another world, you can kill it again without the need to change the world. It would take a lot of worlds unless you would skip some bosses that arent needed for game progression. But the point of the playtrought is to maximize the use of a single world. Oh, and you can only carry over the items that you have in your inventory, so choose wisely when going from a world to another one.

How about after defeating a boss in the previous run, you get that boss's summon in the next runs , e.g. : Wall of flesh and the mechs's summons. Edit: i suggest keeping the pickaxe, the key and the tinkerer's table/ rocket boots

The rules for me would be to keep all accesories you have equipped (but no armor), your main pick and axe (but no hammer, unless your axe is a hamaxe), and finally your main weapon(if your weapon is a bow/gun then it'll be very sad cuz you get no arrows/bullets) Its just to make it less tiresome, i mean having to get hermes boots every single time is a waste of time and having to get mushroom furniture is a waste of time, link doesnt need to go back and get masks over and over, and he also doesnt need to get the gilded sword over and over (aka our version of accesories and tools) he does need to build trust with npcs again and gain rupees but thats bout it, your rules makes it more tedious and slow than it needs to be

You should be allowed to keep anything that isn't stackable (i.e. tools, weapons, armor, etc.), because in MM, link keeps all his gear and key items, but loses all his money, supplies, ammo, and other stackable stuff when the day resets. Just my two cents

I'd say you should take the molten pickaxe, meteorite, and maybe dynamite and rush to beat wof and get hardmode ores as fast as possible or you could take it more slowly and work on upgrading to lightning boots next cycle so you can be faster later I would say keeping the pickaxe is the most important though; the better your pickaxe, the faster you can go through things and the more you can accomplish in the future also I'd recommend making drills rather than pickaxes for the same reason

Rocket boots or stack of dynamite for the next run I think. Sunfury or Shadow Key would be nice, but with meteorite set + space gun you wont need another weapon until hardmode. Probably rocket boots just to maneuver around better,

on the topic of being able to keep items after the world resets, 3 is a good starting number. however, what you could do is allow the piggybank to ONLY keep coins in, and buying the safe unlocks an additional item to keep between worlds. the Tavernkeep's Defender's Forge and Void Vault could also be used to unlock 1 additional item each to carry over as well, for a total of 6 items allowed to use and keep after resets (3 base, 1 from safe, 1 from Defender's Forge, 1 from Void Vault).

I think a cool idea would be to increase your item count every time you kill a boss, or every few bosses or something. I really don't see a way to make it through with just 3 items and starting over. I also think armor and accessories (at least some of it) should be kept but that might make it a bit too easy I guess. Great series idea though, love it!

I think you should take the pickaxe, the rocket boots, and the meteor bars. The pickaxe is very important, the rocket boots are great mobility, and the meteor bars can craft armor and the space gun. You could replace one of these with the shadow key if there were good items in the chests, but they are mainly weapons.

Maybe you could expand the item slots for every major boss/boss milestone you achieve (like all mechanical bosses on the same run), and let you carry over boss sumoning items for bosses you have already defeated for free so you can get back to previous progress sooner in the late game?

Shadow key. You'll have meteorite armour, so the Phoenix Blaster wouldn't really benefit you as much as something like the flamelash.

Can you please do a no projectiles/beach ball playthrough? (At the beginning of the game you spawn in many beach balls at the edge of the world to fill the projectile limit and then try to beat the game)

A good idea would be to allow copper tools, since you start with them anyway, and allow money if you put it in the piggy bank, since thats like the bank in MM

my vote is for shadow key, molten pickaxe, and the rocket boots. the pickaxe is good for the hardmode ores, and getting back to hell, the shadow key eliminates the need to bring the meteorite, as you can just get it from the chests, and the rocket boots combined with the magic carpet (with hermes boots, too) should be enough mobility for a mech fight or two.

I would say take the stack of meteorite, the pickaxe, and hermes boots. Maybe dont make space gun, try to get meteor staff?
