There are two things about Trump that come in play here. Both can be seen by looking back 20 or 30 years, long before he got into politics. First, he is and always was a racist, no matter what he or anyone else claims today - just look at the multiple times he was fined for racist rental practices and check out the details of what he did. Second, even though he attended some very good schools, he, himself, is not very well educated. I know, he keeps claiming he graduated at the top of his class, etc, except he also sent all his schools warnings that if any of them leaked his marks or anything at all about how he did, he would sue them out of existence - both the schools and every teacher he had. Does that sound like someone who had great marks? Also, though he said stuff like he got the highest marks ever - people have looked at things like the honor rolls of the schools and, surprise, Trump was not on any honor roll and received no academic award from any school he ever attended at any grade level from elementary on up to post secondary. The only record of him is the fact he was on the enrollment lists. He never won a single academic award of any sort. That directly contradicts all his claims. So - what happens when a racist who has never gotten very far in their education is shown claims that appeal to their racism even though it is obviously a ridiculous claim? They accept it and believe it because they don't have the basic skills of critical thought that are needed to see through even a transparent lie.
