As I get older, I love movies like Hereditary, The Witch, Let the Right One In, Barbarian, The Wailing, and other atmospheric horror movies way more. Senseless gore just doesn't do anything for me.

AVP2 has a scene in a maternity ward where pregnant women get infected with eggs and they eat the babies inside them, then burst out. That's still one of the most disturbing things I've seen in a horror film. For bloody, Event Horizon has some good moments.

Execution via bisection was used in ancient cultures around the world, especially in northern Africa. It's also supposed to be one of the punishments in Hell, according to a few different religions. I've seen drawings of bisections and saws supposedly used in a few museums in Europe. I'm not aware of any other movies that depict it, but I doubt one movie directly influenced the other. Considering similar scenes in Cannibal Holocaust, for example, filmmakers are always looking for ways to shock!

@@Sam_Martyn Damn straight. I submitted a tip to the FBI to investigate Leone and Thornton; I truly believe for someone to make films that vile, they have to be hiding or engaging in something illegal. It's not even film. Literally just catering to people who are psychotic and enjoy watching brutal deaths. The best thing is that the majority of them haven’t acted on their psychopathic tendencies; that at least they are satisfied enough with just watching it on screen. Should they seek help? Yes. But they don’t deserve legal punishment unless and until they act on the content.
