It's always sad to see an area or a city decline. Mostly due to the closure of local industry or manufactures, as you mention in your description. Particularly the generation of people who has lived there when it was still good living there must find this devastating, like your mother did and does, Terri Jo. But nevertheless, some icons still survive and keep it going. It will be interesting to see these streets and the area again in another 10 years or so. Who knows it will be a renovated and upgraded area again. Thank you for sharing and showing. Wishing you a nice Sunday! 😃👋

Hello 👋 Carina, I hope you’re doing well. Indeed, Chester has potential. Hopefully, there will be more revitalization efforts in the future. This city was hit hard by job loss, an increase in crime, drug use and sales, pollution, etc. there has been improvement over the years with the revitalization efforts along the waterfront and other areas. During the 1990s and into the 2000s a lot of the old housing projects were torn down and replaced with newer developments. The housing revitalization efforts were quite an improvement for the city.

My family origins are from Chester. My grandparents were the first residents in Chester Towers, which isn't there anymore. They relocated from the projects where I fondly remember running carefree alond the concrete backyard.😂 And yes, Chester High School is still open.

Yeah my dad talks about how cool Chester was in the 50's/60's. It's hard to imagine. I hope it makes a comeback in my lifetime. They are good people there, they just need more money

It truly is sad to see cities MANY CITIES declining like this one! I have seen more and more cities after cities declining, once after the other, turning into ghost towns! VERY SCARY for sure! Very scary!

Hi, I was born and raised in Chester, Pa. . 1967 to 1990,I went to all of the public schools there, after high school at Chester High School I worked for Chester Redevelopment Authority when it was there from 1986 to 1990. I grew up on Irvington Rd. But lived on Green & McIllvain St where the Puerto Rican Club was. Was good to see another current video of my hometown of Chester...

I was sorry to see you did not show the section of Chester that is cut off from the main city by I-95. Over here we have Widener University and Crozer Hospital. We also have a few, still lived in, Wetherill family houses from the 1700's, the 18oo's and 1911 all in one block. This part of the city is more like a suburb but the far end of East 24th still has the Friends Meeting House founded by William Penn. It is the oldest Quaker Meeting House in the country.

Hello, I will be doing another video of Chester (2) when the weather breaks. That will include the Chester Rural Cemetery, Widener, CCMC, 22nd Street, etc.

@@terrijofilms305 That would be cool. The local elementary school was built by John Wetherill. It was sold and is now apartments. His house is on the corner of West 24th and Wetherill street and is now apartments. The house his family started in CHester in is on the same block of West 24th and hides behind the trees in the center of the block. (literally). I have his daughter Sarah's house right across the street from the old family mansion. SHe is buried in the cemetary of the Quaker Meeting House on the far end of East 24th and CHestnut street.

I was born in Philadelphia in late 1962 but was raised in Chester from 1966-1977. I spent most of my childhood in Chester and returned to Philadelphia at age 14. When I came to Chester in 1966 at 3 years old, the city was already on the decline but I was totally oblivious to the city's deterioration. I attended Chester High School in my freshman year in 1977 not too long after it had been built. CHS was a good high school when I attended but in later years it began to be plagued with violence and educational deterioration. It seems as though the city has been neglected for a number of years due to lack of concern and funding. Hopefully the city will someday be restored to its original state once the city, state and federal dollars start pouring in.

Hello 👋 thanks so much for sharing your memories of Chester. I remember when Chester High was built, I believe it was in 1974. It was state of the art. Now it’s closed and basically abandoned. They have Charter schools in Chester now. My mother was grew up in Chester….as a kid in the 1940s and as a teenager in a 1950s. She constantly talked about how nice Chester was when she was young. She couldn’t believe what became of the city when she became an adult. There have been some revitalization efforts. I posted a second video about Chester, which features “the other side of town.” Here the link to my other video of Chester. kzbin.info/www/bejne/eYvFh2N3lM5kedEsi=nXswB1HFTUH_F9bd

Depressing. Even in the 70's and 80's, there were still some that were redeeming when it came to living in Chester. The West end was relatively a safe part of town and the people back then were generally nice. Sadly, that generation died off and left us memories of how things used to be.

Hello 👋 Tyrone, I remember hanging out in the West End of Chester in the late ‘70’s and early ‘80s, we were safe! However, by 1985 many areas of the West End, like McCafferty Village were not safe. 😞

I gotta speak up for the malls a little bit. At least in the malls you didnt get jumped 😂 malls are my passion. Unfortunately most of them have gone the way of the dodo . Springfield mall is still around. I live on Smithers street which is basically in back of whst used to be Sacred Heart Hospital ( where i was born on the 4th floor in one of the back buildings). I work at Fedex on Blueball avenue in Boothwyn. I walk to and from almost every day.

I was just in your area about a month ago. I was on the grounds of the old Resurrection school, now it’s an abandoned Rite Aid. I used to volunteer at the Gift of Mary, which is the convent that sits next to what used to be the Rite Aid. Boy, that pharmacy didn’t last long….the place was just built in the late 2000’s. They demolished the Res in 2007 and built the Rite Aid. I’m also quite familiar with Sacred Heart, than the Community Hospital. The facility has a different name now but I cannot recall it. Thanks so much for
