Thanks N! It's pretty satisfying to shape the XPS and to know that it can be made pretty smooth. The way you made that background was so unbelievably cool, we did a project like that in college where we took photos of a bunch of random things and had to create environments in photoshop. @CajunCraftastrophe Жыл бұрын
Thank you, Fiend! The background was a lot of fun to do. It also went pretty quickly and added a little spice from my usual "go-to's." I love that you did some photo-bashing of your own pics in college. Super cool. Yeah, that fabric really jumped out to me. It's actually a very dark purple, but you can only see it in really bright light, besides that it just looks black, but those gold patterns on it are just fantastic! I was psyched with the hot glue bulbs... it was like the 4th thing that I tried. All of the other ways were ridiculously time-consuming and convoluted, so I was happy when I saw a drip from the gun fall on my work table in a glossy little ball, I was like, "Okay." : ) Thank you for watching as always, your video is on my Watch List for today. Just kind of wondering why you didnt use a hotwire to cut the foam..love the forced perspective technique T-nu
@CajunCraftastrophe Жыл бұрын
Well, you have to be very careful with the hotwire cutter and if you linger even for a second the heat will cause a bit of roundness in the foam. With a fine-tooth saw you can take your time (as I did). The hot wire can also be difficult to cut a straight edge perfectly, however, I have been wanting to convert a hot wire cutter into a chop saw configuration. That would have done the trick!

@zednott Жыл бұрын
2:51 you need a hot wire foam cutter. i thought you had one?
@CajunCraftastrophe Жыл бұрын
I do have a hot-wire foam cutter. The problem is making a really straight cut. It's harder than it seems, especially when the piece doesn't have a flat edge to butt-up against the hot-wire guide (like the rocket body). Also, f you go too slowly the heat tends to round the cut around the wire, especially if you pause, if you goo too fast the wire tends to wriggle a little leaving a wavy striation. These can be sanded flat, of course, so it's doable. However, I decided to just use patience and a saw. I had spent a couple of hours forming the rocket body with sandpaper, so taking another 20 minutes to cut it seemed reasonable and I knew that I wouldn't mess it up. Thanks for watching.

great stuff as always. my kids love your channel and want to 'have a go.' (as well as crafsman, bill etc - but they particularly like the fact that you make printed dioramas and 'sets'. They are interested in the many dioramas you make by printing out bespoke pictures, paintings, labels stickers, and here a background. _ all good skills for them to learn! They have access to affinity photo and design, so they can make a start there. Its the printing that is the tricky part. the printer you use in this build is around GBP 1000 ! bit much for us. But some of the very cheap printers seem to print badly and use up ink inefficiently, which is also costly. Do you have any reccommendations for start out printers? As always, thanks
@CajunCraftastrophe Жыл бұрын
Hi! It's good that you and your kids are using crafting as a creative outlet. Yeah, the printer that we have is a bit high end because my wife is a professional artist and we create her prints in-house. For you guys what I would suggest is a basic printer but use glossy photo paper and adjust the printer settings for that paper type. The results are vastly superior to printing on regular paper. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching!
