If this "spoon" isn't part of your everyday carry self-defense weapon arsenal, it's time to get with the program Warrior! I've even taken this into non-permissive environments and on my travels to feel safer everywhere.
Oh, and it's WAY better than those flimsy forks you get in the drive-thru window!

I freakin' LOVE this thing! I've carried it with me EVERYWHERE inside my EDC slingpack (even in non-permissive environments!) and it's one of those "I wish I'd invented this thing!" self-defense tools that also has a real-world function besides laying waste to bad guys! Anyone else carrying this thing around with them? (Or am I just that weird?!) Sound off...

I carried one of these for eight years while in the Guard. Just a tad larger than the MRE spork, but much stronger. Easy to clean and the knife was super sharp for a polymer. Made cutting Mermite meat a lot easier than those plastic butter knives they give you... LOL

Hi Beyond NZT48! If owning a firearm just isn't a consideration, then it's a matter of doing the best with what you can. But it all still becomes situationally dependent on what you're facing. Since you'll most likely be in your home and needing something for defense if you're facing something like home invaders, focusing instead on hardening your exterior and planning out your interior is more effective than any weapon. Beyond that, weapon-wise... if you're saying you can use a crossbow, those can be helpful, but are pretty much last-chance single shot use. The pistol version lacks power so I wouldn't use. Spears provide distance benefits, but once someone is past the pointy part, it changes the odds drastically. For me, a machete is my #1 backup but has the most power in areas where you can fully swing it. Our Combat Machete system also teaches close quarters tactics though. But if I were you, I'd really look up a powerful air rifle that's specifically designed for hunting as big a game as possible. Even a "varmint rifle" could prove effective and save you some money. There are lots of good ones on the market. The tried-and-true one I have is a Benjamin PCP .22. Super powerful. I have an old wooden stock one but their Marauder series looks impressive and quite compact. I would check that out. Hope that helps.

@@Warrior Thing is the sheath is right-handed and I want options because who knows what could happen on any given day. Also, the sheath is made of leather which will bend and warp like wood. Finally the marine logo and brown color makes it look too "tactical" for my liking. Do you recommend one of their other sheaths, or a different knife?
@Warrior
@Warrior 2 жыл бұрын
@@jawlyrogers8566 I don't have any of their other knives. Unfortunately, in their desire to expand their line of knives, they've strayed too cheaply in some directions. Many of us in the infantry had their early knives with the leather sheath and they were good quality and took a beating. But there are better sheath options now and because the original ka-bar has been such a standard, there are ambidextrous kydex versions on the market. You can probably even just pick them up on Amazon.

I will kindly disagree. the hole near the end is a food trap and it becomes an awful thing to clean. The spoon itself is small. I suggest a steel or plastic spork. For pack use a long handled spork to reach inside freeze dried pouches is called for. To call that "plastic" knife "defensive" is a a bit of a whopper.
@Warrior
@Warrior 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Jeff Kerns! Of course the polymer knife isn't a "primary" defensive weapon... but in non-permissive environments, it's not a bad backup. A lot of the polymer "knives" out there are really flimsy. The "spike" versions are excellent... but you'll never get them on a plane because they actually look like weapons - because they are. The spork knife on the Ka-Bar is solid enough to do the job in a pinch and is an "eating utensil" that can easily pass into non-permissive environments.

Yup, it's part of my EDC computer bag Kevin. Not a matter of "ancestral survival"... but a damn good example of form meets function and highly recommended if you're into being "better armed" in non-permissive environments. There are other options of course, but I like this option from Ka-Bar (and no...not a paid sponsorship).

@@Warrior Hi, thanks for responding. I watched your first review of this product and as someone who is interested in bushcraft/camping/hiking and survival I thought these were a great idea. Small, compact, 3 in 1 BUT I got over to Amazon and see how much they are charging on there and I may be wrong because it was a while ago so without going back and checking, from memory I think they were around £17 each. They seemed expensive but I wasn't put off by the price until I read the reviews from people on there who had bought these. That's why I honestly thought ypu were being paid to promote these. The reviews on Amazon aren't of the same opinion as yourself. I made some of the cuff remark about the plastic knife and fork you can pick up at the service station with the bacon and egg soda. I may have been a little harsh and I am certain the quality is somewhat better than the free knife and fork but for 17 quid I could buy a swiss army knife. I don't fancy it much as a weapon, unless you're trained in hand to hand I don't think of a knife as a defensive weapon. I do believe there are better quality bits of kit for less money than this. As a weapon, well, I wouldn't want cut with it but a long stick may be just as effective in the hands of the unskilled. I wouldn't pay stupid money for a brand name spork either. So I honestly believe that a fair price for that kit would be £9.99 or less. I don't think the Kbar name is worth an extra 8 quid. Maybe you could present two bits of kit, alternatives when you make videis like this so it doesn't appear you are doing adds for one particular brand? Just an idea. Thanks again for your response.

@@Warrior Hey. I now own a Ka-bar tactical spork, it arrived on Friday. And to be fair I am not as disappointed as I expected to be. That said, it is over priced. There are many spoons and sporks made from everything from plastic to titanium that are half the price. This Ka-bar effort is badly designed. When they made this they tried putting the blade into the handle and found the trapped air wouldn't allow it to snap shut so they put an air hole just above the spoon head. This hole is a terrible idea.. Had they thought about this they could have came up with a bettet solution. I have one but I don't get paid to fix other people's mistakes. Its certainly sturdier than the plastic utensils available at the services but its no more practical and its £17.99 more. Would I waste any more money on another one of these or in an emergency situation will my wife be using the Spar plastic cutlery? I believe my first assessment of this was correct. I paid a £5er for the spork and £12.99 for the Ka-bar name. A reasonable swiss army knife, Spartan model can be bought for around the same price and is arguably more useful but without doubt much better quality. What's more interesting to me is the very different perspective you have compared to those people on Amazon. Did you check out the reviews over there? Its like night and day. I haven't written it off completely. They would make a good present, for the right person. I've thrown this in my pocket, I will see how much use it actually is. I carry a SAK and use it everyday, mostly the scissors so this isn't going to replace my knife obviously but if all its practical use is to eat with Ive been robbed! I really don't think its much use as a weapon although it's probably better than nothing and it could cause serious injury. I noticed on the US Amazon they are $34 dollars! Maybe Ka-bar don't care if their customers feel like they've been robbed.

@@allanlarmour7460 I understand more now. To answer your questions as quickly as possible to clear things up... no, I didn't look at other people's reviews because I want to test things out myself for these types of items. I don't want to copy others so that you're getting "my" review straight from my own cranial juices. The #1 reason I like the Ka-Bar spork is really for the sturdiness of the knife as a back-up defensive weapon in non-permissive environments - not because it's the best fork, spoon and knife set for the field. For sure, there are WAY better options for eating utensils... but I can't take a swiss army knife on the plane. So far, the Ka-Bar spork has made it through every flight. I'm also not saying that it's a "great" weapon for regular self-defense. But its design with the relative sturdiness of the blade and the flat tip at the end of the knife makes it a viable option that I know I can make use of in a pinch - better than another weapon I may be able to carry on a plane. Hope this helps clear things up. I have no problem with people having differing opinions than me. I crave it as I'm just looking for the best tool for the job. If there's a better option out there, I want people to tell me so I can switch over myself. Thanks for taking the time for your feedback Allan. Much appreciated.
