Is this the "tactical knife" that broke Walmart? Ever since Ed Caledron declared the Pioneer Woman 3.5 inch paring knife "better than a lot of expensive tactical knives", Walmart hasn't been able to keep them in stock and they've become a treasured find for combat knife enthusiasts looking for a covert self-defense weapon option.
But does the knife stand up to the test?
In this "2-Minute Taco Tools-Day" review, I'll quickly share my own views on how it stood up to my review for self-defense purposes.
More On Ed Calderon: www.EdsManifesto.com
BTW... if you want the pioneer woman cheaper than the capitalists on eBay and Amazon, just buy the entire SET of Pioneer Woman kitchen knives and the paring knife comes with it!

I'm a recent fan of Ed Calderon's and just took his "Motel Armorer" course. Really great stuff and I learned a lot! This knife came my way from a devotee so I had to try it out. (For our class, Ed was actually carrying a "Hello Kitty" paring knife! hahahaha. Classic!). If y'all own the Pioneer Woman knife, let me know what you think in the comments!

Your son is a black smith? There's no way on Earth that the knife is Tungsten carbide. That would make it incredibly brittle, incredibly hard, and incredibly expensive. Working TC to a blade is extremely difficult. Sharpening it is even more difficult. To think that they would sell a blade made of tungsten carbide at WM is completely unrealistic.
@Warrior
@Warrior 2 жыл бұрын
You may be right Destroyer. My son's comment was his "best guess" for why the blade was so brittle and snapped so easily after only a few throws. Because it's a paring knife, it's thinner and we didn't "test" the actual metal.
@jaykwonzzz
@jaykwonzzz 2 жыл бұрын
@@Warrior My assumption is that it's a very low-grade 420. Ed stated that it has more strength that a lot of the other knives they tested. Any knife has the potential to break at a cross section if thrown; especially a knife as thin as that one.
@Warrior
@Warrior 2 жыл бұрын
@@jaykwonzzz Yeah, you're probably right about the grade. It doesn't take a super high-strength steel to peel an apple, eh? In fact, a lot of so called "tactical" knives out there have a cool look, but the steel and components are super low-grade because most people aren't going to do anything more with it than open some boxes. I do like the Pioneer Woman knife though and bought an extra to have on hand when traveling as Ed showed in his Motel Armorer class. Thanks for following up Destroyer! Much appreciated.

Walmart carries everyday around 7$, the print vs solid color are a 50/50 chance of finding each. I’ve seen them go up to 9.97 but then roll backed to around 7$. I’m in Walmart country so easier to find in Arkansas. I made a sheath out of cardboard with grip tape to help with staying out during deployment. Great little fixed blade to pick up during trips

Lucky you DOC! My son went into our local Walmart for another one after I broke mine and when he asked for them, the employee in that section said that they've been selling out of them as soon as they come in. He said it was funny because her reply was, "I don't know why these are so popular? It's the only knife we can't keep in stock." hahahaha. They're not even available (as I write this) on Walmart's website. Guess you were one of the lucky ones!

Should of just waited for the trend to be over and the wannabes buying spree is over. Available at Walmart now for $8 Also, Ed always spoke about mass gullibility as a social experiment. As he proved making folks buy a cheap knife as if it’s the next huge trend. Unfortunately, you paid $27 for a cheap $7 knife.

True DPB. Normally, I wouldn't overpay to be a fanboy. Got it for the video when it was hot - and it's certainly not the ONLY knife that fits the bill - just an example of how small kitchen knives are just as pointy as expensive combat knives. In Ed's class, he makes a big point about having a weapon that can be "explainable" for normal use in the moment, if challenged. For example... this type of a kitchen knife paired with an apple is less likely to be challenged than sporting around an out-the-front knife with the Punisher skull on it (as an example).

Lots of good fixed blades BUT the sheath is half the knife.....I dont like that knife as it does not have a good grip or guards for the hands. A defensive knife is a one and done item---you use it and then replace it----no matter if it costs $100 bucks---the most hard use for defensive knives are making mirror trainers as actually sacrifice live blade knife.
@Warrior
@Warrior 3 жыл бұрын
You're definitely right from the functionality standpoint GraniteJeep. Ed's bigger lesson for this knife is that it's "explainable" to authorities. Personally, it's not a "carry knife" for personal defense, but with a means of fast access on a off-body carry bag (I use s slingpack), I can see it being a good option. But then, if you already carry another knife for personal defense, what's the point, eh? Hmmmm... something to ponder... :-)
