@theinternetelectrician Жыл бұрын
Yes, that's OK. Sometimes electronics need a power down to reset the brains, but that's not common or often at all, but if it does become necessary then you can accomplish that with the circuit breaker.

Power present - check. Battery in remote replace - ? Double-check connections - ? Other questions. Is this a new installation and never worked, or was working and then quit? If it's new and is properly wired, battery is good, then get in touch with the manufacturer and the product support division. Let me know what you find out.

Having a hard time finding the code on the receiver to make sure it’s set properly, any advice on where exactly on the receiver the code is located to set it properly? Are the dip switches identical with the ones on the controller?? *Update* receive didn’t have a dip switch on my model, it’s older. Called customer service and found the sequence to pair remote. Power fan off, take battery out remote, power fan on, power remote on, point remote at receiver and press and release 3, then 2, then 1, worked like a charm.
@theinternetelectrician2 жыл бұрын
Not sure where it would be? It shouldn't be hidden anywhere that you need to remove screws to get at it? The dip switches should be identical on each, just look for indication as to what is up or on with each as sometimes it's hard to tell. I would just throw the question out on a search engine worded exactly how you would ask. "Where are the dip switches located on the receiver for a xxxxxx fan, model number xxxxxx"?
@redobrien772 жыл бұрын
Very helpful. Can you clarify how many ground wires you would have in a situation like this, and where they are coming from? Obviously, you have the main ground coming from the ceiling, and then a ground wire screwed to the mounting bracket. I think there's a third ground, yes? I installed a remote-controlled ceiling fan last week and followed this exact procedure, but my LED lights are humming. I am not using a dimmer switch. Don't know what I did wrong, but I'm pretty sure the lights should not be humming. They hum whether the fan is on or off. It's not the fan motor that is humming, but the lights. Thanks!

I have a beige wire coming from the ceiling, not a white wire. Is this the same as a white wire? The black wire was capped off from the ceiling light. There is no blue wire from the ceiling. And the Hunter ceiling fan has a black wire with a white stripes running down the black wire vs a white and black wire? Very different from anywhere else in the home which is the standard colored wires. (Black, White, Blue, Green & Copper/ground). Wall Switch is a duel, one for light one for the fan. I do know which is hot, light, etc. Just never seen this configuration, and can not find anywhere online.

Hi, question: my nephew just bought a house with a Hyperikon (which is now out of business) fan without light. The previous owners lost the remote. Do you know, if I can find a replacement remote, will we be able to program a new remote?
@theinternetelectrician Жыл бұрын
Honestly, I'm not sure. I would think that it would be possible to do as you just need to scan for the correct frequency and then lock in, like you do with a universal TV remote. I'm just not aware of a universal fan/light control, but I'd bet that they do exist. Another option would be to buy a conversion kit with a receiver and remote already paired. and replace the factory remote receiver. This may be tricky however, depending on how integrated the original is, and if it is accessible for replacement or not.

Hey Terry nice video! Another option for people who prefer to turn the lights on when they first walk in the room would be to connect the red wire from the ceiling to the blue wire that goes directly to your fan(this of course will not allow you remote to work for the light). It's hard to find the remote when your room is dark. Unless your really good at putting the remote by the door every time you leave the room :). Just my 2 cents though.

@theinternetelectrician3 жыл бұрын
Just cap one off. Use the switched wire to feed the receiver though. Sometimes these remote units need to be powered down if their electronic brain gets scrambled and if have it hot all the time, you need to power off the breaker to do so, instead of just using the wall switch to cycle the power to it.
@tonyp33543 жыл бұрын
@@theinternetelectrician thanks for the reply appreciated, I just capped the red off at both ends it was a fan that needed separate power for the fan and the light, new one just needed one hot and swapped the double switch out with a single, flipped it on and use the remote to operate both fan and light. done deal. thanks again

With these type of receivers, is the capacitor fir the fan motor, integrated as part of the receiver unit? I have a similar fan with the same receiver and the high speed is not operating. I see no difference between medium and high speed.
@SupermanChad233 жыл бұрын
There may very likely be a capacitor attached just above the motor body and although not common, a capacitor can go bad and lose one of the speeds and typically the manufacturer can get you a capacitor and just do a simple swap. And what I mean by simple is go have the part and you just have to take it apart and put it back together. I would just call the manufacturer and ask if the capacitor is in the receiver or about the motor They are the best ones to tell you where it is located.

Good question, but no, the remote needs constant power source and I believe back-feeding the remote circuitry by over-riding the remote with the wall switch wouldn't be a good idea although I've never tried it,...? +Artemio Jr. Garcia I'm thinking the red can be spliced with the blue to allow the old dual switch control and remote control....you just have to have both switches on the "on" position for the remote to work properly. Someone please confirm this. Thankyou.
@theinternetelectrician9 жыл бұрын
+Artemio Jr. Garcia . You could connect both the red and the black wire to the line in of the remote, but then one switch or the other, or both would have to be on for the remote to work. What really should be done is abandon one of the switches by replacing it with a blank filler (would have to see if it's a stacked switch, or 2 separate switches) just to avoid confusion.

Thanks Terry but I would have liked a little more commentary/clarity regarding the switches. Maybe my room is typical in that it has a bank of four switches, one for canned lighting, one for a switched receptacle, one to control the light on a ceiling fan, and one to control the fan on a ceiling fan. Like you, I only used the one hot wire to power the fan but that's where I would like a little more clarity regarding the switches. I decided to use the third switch. I left the fourth switch as is. I capped the wire from the fourth switch at the fixture. What I'm wondering is whether or not a professional electrician would object to leaving the fourth switch hot. Perhaps they would prefer that I removed the pigtail to the fourth switch and cap off the wire that went from the fourth switch to the fixture. I didn't do this because it's more work but I've been wondering if a pro wouldn't approve of my methodology.

My Hunter fan has hanging ropes switches and remote. With that model only 1 speed can be turned on with controller. Two other fan speed buttons do not work. Light button in he middle ok f remote works as supposed to turn on light and dim it on long press. Any idea how can I make 2 other fan speeds working without pulling rope switch?

So this must be an after-market remote then? When the fan is on, use the rope controlled switch to get the fan to high speed. Then see if the remote will control the speeds? Let me know. Now I'm curious.

@@theinternetelectrician I tried to set another speeds on the fan using rope switch. All remote does turns on by pressing button#3 speed that was set by rope it could be low, medium and fast speed and turns off when I press on button 1 or 2 or 0. I found out that it was refurbished fan from Amazon and they mismatched receiver controller which is different part number 99118 not 99122 that from included remote in package. The 99118 remote is different style and I think supports only 1 speed for the fan. That's why my remote does not switch speed for fan even everything connected properly and paired.

@@johnysilver1853 Yeah, then I think your problem is the mis-match of receiver and remote then.

i have put the receiver like you in the cover and after 1 week and a very hot day both of the fans that i installed went wrong.The receivers stop working so no control of the fan. I took them back replace them and install the receivers outside so they can have more air. (Take note that is not only a receiver and works like a transformer so it becomes hot! )

can this be done if my house doesn't have a neutral wire?

Can I still hook it up to use 2 different switches at the wall to control light and fan? or do I have to do the fan and light control by the remote control no matter what? I was thinking of splicing the red to the blues would the enable me to use both switches at the wall? I'd just like the option to not have to use the remote control all the time.

if you simple set up, the switch will turn on the power to the fan, if you have the fan on low with light-on, you can just turn the light switch on/off

Doesn't the pull chain fan speed need to be set at the highest fan speed level first before wiring and install receiver ??
@theinternetelectrician8 жыл бұрын
If the ceiling fan comes from factory with a remote, there will not be a fan speed switch.

Many fans do not come with a remote. I have now found that I have more speed options with my fan speed side switch and the remotes three fan speed settings

I'm looking for a remote control for my pull chain ceiling fan. Your comment sounds interesting. Could you explain a little bit more detailed? Can a remote with "high, medium, low" control a pull chain ceiling fan? Thanks!
@InCountry69708 жыл бұрын
I bought and installed the Hunter model remote controller for my older Hunter fan with the pull chain.. I ended up having more options for speed control by using my pull chain to first set the speed, then I use the three speed remote to turn the fan on. It works perfectly and my low (#1) speed is ideal for me.

If you don't have cables with ground, you really don't have much choice.
