Now this is entirely on me, and this is what I get for watching a video whilst tired from work IRL and half asleep, but when you said that they have an "allergy to concentrated lascanon or melta fire", I thought you were going to say an "allergy to concentrated _lemon juice"_ and then when I caught myself, my brain did a self-reflective double take and thought, _"WAIT, ZERO, THAT'S NOT 'NIDS, THAT'S ZERG. RIGHT FACTION, WRONG GAME!"_ So, apologies for my mistake. That said, it would be humorous if the 'Nids started avoiding Agriworlds that specialized in citrus fruits due to a lemon allergy...

It's pretty wild, but I like the theory that the 'nids are actually a 'reset button' sent by a handful of surviving Old Ones that escaped the galaxy after the War in Heaven. It could make some sense - the Old Ones were master geneticists who created so many races, so they'd be capable of creating them. The Old Ones were also massively powerful psychic beings, so that could explain the creation and overall management of the hive mind. The tyranids are designed to constantly and dynamically adapt, and are also very careful to not waste any biomass, endlessly consuming it and recycling it, so if they were indeed sent to this galaxy to enact that HARD reset to pave the way for the Old Ones to return one day, all the materials they'd need to start again in the Milky Way would still exist.
@FistSlaminElite1999 Жыл бұрын
I've heard that theory and while it makes sense, is by far one of my least favorite theories in 40k. We have SO much stuff that traces back to the Old Ones and og Necrons, and then even more stuff that circles back to the other main factions (Kroot Warspheres being ork moons ect) that it makes the universe feel a tad small sometimes. The idea that the nids are a new completely out of left field terror makes the universe feel as though it has more depth imo.
@Quintus_Fontane Жыл бұрын
Aye that's fair, but their origin doesn't change the fact that they're still an unexpected, unfeeling, uncaring, unaligned horror that have turned up to ruin absolutely everybody's day, and honestly I highly doubt we'll ever find out for sure; as a race they're utterly unknowable AND from outside the galaxy, so unless GW decided to have some ridiculous extra-galactic adventures or go full 40k End Times (Please no) and bring the moustache-twirling Old Ones back, I just don't see them ever deciding to explain the 'nids origins to us. They'll hopefully remain as this enigmatic terror we can all have fun speculating over :D
@noahdavis7570 Жыл бұрын
An issue I have with this theory, while cool, is that the nids don’t actually bother the necrons. If they do successfully Alt+F4 the galaxy, then the surviving old ones will need to fight the entire awoken necron race again, this time without the aeldari or krorks.
@rogerbrownreacts8528 Жыл бұрын
I think the last old one evolved into the hive mind to save itself from the Enslavers. Calming the warp then would allow the hive mind to rebreed the old ones.

My first Tyranid army; nearly 1,500 points worth of small units and giant monsters, was stolen from me while out of town in a little game store. I've been sad...and I felt defeated, for so long now and it has been over a year... But every week...the hive mind chittered to my senses, every month it continued to whisper for my return. But it has been because of Baldermort and the sheer depths of his lore and tales that has pushed me to return to the table top!! And long behold, the first single unit that I bless myself with outside of the newest starter set is none other than the Tervigon!! I thank you personally, Baldermort, for providing the Warhammer lore and universe to us all and most especially to me, my hive fleet will regrow...it will return!! 🤘

Tyranids are horrifying enemies when playing as a Guardsmen in Only War. Orks can be outsmarted, Tau outnumbered, Chaos is predictable when not a Astartes or Greater Deamon. Eldar can be negotiated with or avoided, Drukari are deadly but can be beaten as they lack numbers. Necrons just give up. However Tyranids you can feel like you have a chance and just then you played into their trap. A game as Guardsmen against them like the Starship Troopers game would be so cool and players would absolutely love it.

It still strikes me funny that my first exposure to Tyranids was the Zerg. Starcraft overall kind of infantilized the entire 40K setting they included, but none moreso than the largely benign Zerg. Sure, they swarmed, sure, they could jack you up, but they were more cute and less menacing than the 'Nids. Qnd they included the human character Kerrigan to give that audience a narrative "in" to the species but part of why the Tyranids are so terrifying is that the guiding intelligences are decidely NOT human.
