That heat brings out the best in the Plaid. Which is ironic, because high temps are the enemy of the gas powered racers. I always raced my Viper on street tires. Once you get over 600HP, stock parts begin to break if you don't have a "fuse" to blow. For me that was an easy choice of sometimes losing traction, as opposed to blowing out a u-joint, clutch, or transmission. If I ran slicks or even drag radials I would have shaved a second or more on the 1/4 mile times. But it wasn't worth the cost of having something expensive break. Especially since I had a 150 mile trip afterwards to drive back home from the drag strip. Good runs. I hope that you had a fun time in Japan.

13:35 wow! Whats the secret of such a perfect and clean start of an old RWD muscle?
@TeslaPlaidChannel6 ай бұрын
There are the obvious things, the right sized drag tire and good burnout to warm them up, and right launch RPM to not lose traction. But the “secret”, although not a secret to these racers, is the right torque converter. The “stall rating” determines how tight or loose it is, and makes a big difference in the launch.

Nice 1320 Greg has. In good DA 500 or less with the stock Nexan drag radials,using the trans brake and the rear seat delete plus a good 60 he should run mid 11s with that car.
@TeslaPlaidChannel6 ай бұрын
👍 I believe his best so far has been 12.1, but he only has a handful of passes and the DA was horrible this month.
@SofaKingQuick6 ай бұрын
@@TeslaPlaidChannel he’ll get used to it and get the ET down when the 60 goes down and the DA decreases as well. He is right there next to 11. For a NA car that’s damn impressive already. Those cars come with rear seat delete stock, you have to add the rear and passenger in for $1. Does he have the cloth interior and a rear seat installed.

What’s your approximate state of charge when you do your first run? Also what’s a 60 foot you’re happy with running?
@TeslaPlaidChannel6 ай бұрын
We post SOC at the top of every timeslip, as well as in the Description box of every video. At the 1/4 mile track (BMP) we usually start around 89-90%, based on the nearest charger that is 5% away. (We don’t charge to 100%) At Showtime, although there is a charger only 2% from the track, we usually don’t bother as it doesn’t make that much difference in ETs. We often get there with 75-77% coming straight from home.
@TeslaPlaidChannel6 ай бұрын
Good sixty foot times for this car are 1.44-1.46. Our best ever is 1.43 👍
@phillipzx37546 ай бұрын
My guess on the "tire wear issue" is that you (I'm assuming by the way your tires look and what little I know about you via these videos) don't intentionally abuse your tires. You might do small "chirps" to test for traction. But I've never seen you (Andrew) do a "tire abusing burnout." 🙂 I'm also guessing many Tesla owners have "toasted" their tires by showing off the impressive torque to their friends and family. I've ridden with several. 😁
@TeslaPlaidChannel6 ай бұрын
👍 Correct. We've never once attempted a 'burnout' in any of our Plaids. That being said, we don't know anyone that has had their Michelins last over 11K miles, perhaps due to different compound? They seem to wear out prematurely at the inside corner, unless suspension modifications are made

You ever race one of those Donks before Andrew? Would they even let one of those run test and tune at your track?
@TeslaPlaidChannel6 ай бұрын
We’ve raced a couple of donks at Showtime (1/8th mile) over the years. They had a “Donk night” out there a few years ago but it was just out of control. (Trash and beer cans/bottles all over the place that they had to clean up the next morning.) The donks didn’t want to race us for a few reasons: 1) Most are No Time and only want to race other NT racers so that they can keep their times hidden. If they have a “close race” with me, then everyone will know their times. 2) They seem to enjoy the “hustle” as much as the racing. But we won’t race for money as a matter of principle. And some have figured out sneaky tricks to fool drivers. (Like having a buddy hold his foot over the starting beam so he can leave early without a red light.) 3) Most ones we’ve seen or raced are not running low 9s. After we raced one at Showtime, it was clear that it wasn’t welcome to try to race any others.
@shaybapple6 ай бұрын
Gotcha thanks for the response. Not really surprised considering some of the videos I've seen of them racing. I saw the video of Brooks running the Donkmaster which was fun. He seems like a cool dude but yeah, those donk meets look like real shit shows.

@TeslaPlaidChannel6 ай бұрын
With the rear seats and trim removed? We'd probably take a haircut. Fully put back together, I hear they are going for $65-75K depending on mileage, age, etc. Would a buyer like to hear about how many dragstrip runs this car has had? Maybe not. Our 2019 Tesla S Performance has more: Over 1001 documented passes! It's now our daily driver, as mid-10s is plenty for the street 👍

Andrew, Tesla owners are having issues with tires on the rear. You have to take the rear tires off and look at the inner tire wear. Can’t see it when they are on. Most are down to cords when they check.
@TeslaPlaidChannel6 ай бұрын
👍 That issue is actually only with the 21” Michelin PS4S. Sad fact: They are lucky to go 10K miles before the inside edge separates. But no one has ever had that issue with the 19” Pirellis that we've heard of. (We own a floor jack and took the rear tires off the car recently; inside edge still immaculate)

@TeslaPlaidChannel6 ай бұрын
👍We appreciate your Comment and perhaps other owners that are not familiar with the issues will benefit. You most certainly did the right thing to share what you have heard. We take safety very seriously, and worth noting that we've never seen another Tesla driver at the track wearing the full compliment of fire-rated gear that we always choose to wear. We hope that the 'emphatic' nature of our reply (because we are intimate with the topic and confident about our data) did not come across as impolite 😃
