Hi, a bit late to the party here but I just wanted to say what an excellent video this is. I've got a Model 3 on order and have been watching many, many videos about the car. This is the best I've seen, hands down, for how it actually drives on motorways and dual carriageways. And as a bonus, I'm often on the A1 and M11 so it covered roads I know well. I've ordered EAP for now, but may also consider getting full FSD as an investment for the future.

A great professional and factual review of Autopilot. So pleased it was shown to be a very good cruise control rather than the finished self-driving solution which most reviews claim it is. One negative thing I do have to say about Tesla - They have ~the worst~ number plate surrounds on their new UK cars!

Thanks for the kind words. We already took care of the number plate bracket. 😎

Excellent video Martin- as a retired airline pilot I appreciated your comments about airliner autopilots! (Absolutely correct as so many people wrongly think that we just plug in the AP and go to sleep!) Having recently bought a Model Y with the FSD your presentation helped me understand the current level of automation - I bought FSD primarily to be able to watch the development of the tech!

Wow what a great video Martin and it really demonstrates how far Tesla are ahead of the competition. I suspect even those who have EAP are not fully aware of all the functionality. A lot to take in but your video shows what makes the M3 a great long distance car and a relaxing drive. Huge safety benefits from the Tesla AP systems.

Just watched your excellent video for the second time ! My March 2022 Y received update 2022.24.6 today which of course deactivated the radar. Sadly the autopilot performance seems to have deteriorated significantly! Perhaps worth an update video?

nav on autopilot seems a little too keen to move you to lanes 2-3 on motorways and not back again to lane 1. If you’re using normal autopilot (but with EAP package), if you manually indicate will it change langes for you without cancelling AP? That seems like a more useful thing for me, as regular AP is a pain to keep cancelling and re-engaging, and with nav on autopilot you have to confirm changes with the indicator anyway
@wiselyauto2 жыл бұрын
Correct. In fact, if you find the Navigate on AP lane change suggestions annoying, you can disable it in the settings, so each time you engage Autopilot only the motorway, you will be in charge of all the lane selection and taking exists (but the car can still do it when you indicate).

Hi, very good video because it’s very informative and helped me decide to stick with my current enhanced autopilot on my Tesla Y model. I was thinking about trying out FSD but it’s not worth it at the moment. Enhanced autopilot I found is very good even though you do have provide confirmation for lane changes but overall it takes a lot of stress out of driving on motorways.

19:40 I can answer that: probably none, Tesla has already removed radar from their US cars in favor of full vision. They claimed the radar was introducing noise into the sensor system which confused their self-driving AI, so they nixed it. From what I've read with mixed results, lots of complaints about phantom braking on the forums. Luckily the rest of the world still gets radar equipped version although I'm not sure why, maybe it's a legal thing?

Is autopilot present in the base model 3 too
@wiselyauto2 жыл бұрын
Yes! The hardware and software is the same across all Model 3's. (Some early cars had Autopilot computers with less processing power, but even if you decide to purschase the Full Self-Driving package after purchase and the car needs a newer computer, Tesla will retorofit it without any additional charge.)
@thierryvt2 жыл бұрын
@@wiselyauto While the hardware might be the same, the actual active feature set depends on the option you've selected. The EU gets has 3 versions of AP: - base AP: comes as standard on all cars. Only does TACC and simple lane assist. No lane changing without disengaging AP first. - Enhanced AP: Basically as seen in the video. Can navigate on Autopilot on highways, can do auto lane changes. Also adds auto-park and summon features. - FSD (full self-driving): All of the above + traffic light and stop sign recognition (will auto stop for them) + In the future: the ability to "fully autonomously" drive you to your destination with 0 intervention. That last bit of FSD is a work-in-progress, has been for many years now, and will remain so for the foreseeable future. Tesla will happily let you pay for the option though, even if it doesn't actually exist yet nor is it even legal... Shameful imo, they should remove it until it's actually in a workable state AND legal. In any case, just get the enhanced AP, FSD is not worth it at this point. That's what I did at least.

If you have FSD, how do you get it to change from the double blue lines to the singular blue line in the middle? Or is this done automatically by the car?
@wiselyauto2 жыл бұрын
You need to have "Navigate on Autopilot" enabled - should pop up just under the sat nav directions when you have a destination set. Once enabled, the car automatically switches to Nav on AP when all the operating conditions are met...

A brilliant presentation and insight to the future of driving. I’m not convinced though, there appears to be a need for a lot of input in the computer taking up too much road attention. I may be wrong but I’m not ready for this I’m afraid. Motorcycles and cyclists could well be in greater danger from auto car drivers. I think there must be a big question over trust in computerised systems. Thank you for an excellent presentation.
@stumbledotcom2 жыл бұрын
Maybe it’s me not understanding the bigger picture but managing the automation seems like it’s more work than just driving-except in stop and go situations. The video just cements my belief there’s more hype than substance to Tesla’s self driving claims. I for one will never buy any of their products.
@wiselyauto2 жыл бұрын
Keep in mind we have only picked the interesting bits of the 4-hour journey to keep the video somewhat short. If you look at the timelapse you can see that Autopilot is pretty much always-on, doing its thing. It is really relaxing on motorways and dual carriageways but there is not much to show other than it works. The difference compared to other systems is how Teslas interpret the surrounding environment and rely much more on cameras than on mapping data. That means the cars can (try to) understand a wider range of situations as opposed to regular adaptive cruise controls, which follow a much more rigid logic (i.e. they would not slow down for a narrow gap like shown at 09:50 or for the drifting lorry at 28:57) - the downside of which is that the system is more susceptible false positives. The hype comes from FSD progress over in the US where the cars can now drive whole trips without disengagements: kzbin.info/www/bejne/sJu6nouudplgq9U Yes, that is in relatively limited Beta for now but will eventually reach the UK as well. Either way, we will definitely make a similar video in probably a years time to see how the system has evolved thanks to the OTA software updates.

AP is intended for well defined roads and traffic like motorways and dual carriageways. It’s an absolute dream to use it on these types of roads as you pretty much sit there and do nothing most of the time. I’ve had my model 3 for a few months now and it’s by far the best car I’ve ever owned and don’t see myself ever changing back to an ICE car. I’ll admit FSD is a little over priced and is simply isn’t ready yet which is why I haven’t got it. Everything else about their cars is spot on imo. I’d encourage you to be a little more open minded and at least never rule out getting one.
