I do suspect the robot is fake too, but mostly because of the motion. Your green screen example might be wrong because if an artist were to place a 3d object on the footage, it would just be rendered with transparency, which is very easy to do. so it makes no sense they will render it with a green screen. the green light on the objects is probably just bounce lighting from the exit green light. and it is possible due to the reflective nature of the materials in the room. and if the robot is 3d, the green you see could just be an attempt to light it to fit in with the rest of the scene. finally, the noise could just be from low render samples or noise added in the post

The Optimus 1 body is made of aluminum, and the Optimus 2 body is plastic. That is why they look different. And if you ramp up green in the chroma it will appear first in the blacks. That is not evidence of green screen use. I have used green screen professionally for years. But even if they shot the robot against a green screen to pop in any background. Your wire argument kind of fails when you notice that the thing you think is a wire stays stationary while the robot continues to move past it. I suspect this is just common artifacting from the compression youtube uses on videos.

@@miseseconomics What about that wire you claim, that only appears after the bot walks past a vertical black line in the wall panels, and the faint black line stays stationary as the bot moves away from it. How is that a wire, and not just a compression artifact? The fact that there are multiple faint black lines close together is sort of a giveaway for artifacting. If I take any picture, and crank up the greens in the chroma, you will start to see them in the blacks. It doesn't prove anything. But as I said... even if they did film the robot against green screen - which I don't think they did - that would only prove that the background is fake, not the robot. My problem is the low amount of footage available on this so-called miracle bot. It's heavily edited and very short because of the amount of work that they had to put into releasing it. If the bot was half as good as what was shown there'd be a tonne of footage. Even Boston Dynamic have released out-take footage of their bots constantly failing, falling and screwing up. They know their bi-pedal bot isn't ready yet, there is no way Tesla can compete with that. It's just as Janky as the car itself, which still can't self drive.

The "wire removal" artifacts look like the shadow left from the edge of the shelf and could be likely a compression artifact. I would not be looking too much into it. Especially, the jiggling wires on the back are likely cause by the shaking of the robot. If you want to suspend 100kg of stuff you attach it to steel frame and not some coiled wires. The green screen itself makes no much sense, as the background does not look worth being replaced by the trick. Again, I think the noise can be just an effect of compression or the camera noise. It would make sense if the robot was rendered, but then, no green screen would be needed.

During a lawsuit over the death of an Apple engineer killed in a Tesla, Ashok Elluswamy, director of Autopilot software at Tesla, said the 2016 video demonstrating full self driving technology was staged. “The intent of the video was not to accurately portray what was available for customers in 2016,” said Elluswamy. “It was to portray what was possible to build into the system.” That was a nice way of saying that they lied because the video instead contained a tagline that read, “The person in the driver’s seat is only there for legal reasons. He is not doing anything. The car is driving itself.” In reality, the car apparently wasn’t even using the Tesla software and it actually crashed trying to park. Despite the major flaws, later that year Tesla started selling a new $3000 (now 15,000) software add on. Considering Tesla just had to recall 2 million vehicles over the safety of their Autopilot (they aren’t allowed to call it FSD anymore), I’m not surprised.

Is this some kind of satirical take on how Tesla gets criticized? If it is, it's quite well done, but just in case it isn't, here are the explanations for the points in the video: - During the Squatting scene the green color is coming from the big glowing green Exit light behind the robot. - The noise is coming from video compression. - During the Walking scene the lines are similarly coming from video compression artifacts. - The chain hook is bobbing up and down because the robot is walking. Walking creates an up and down motion. And yes, Boston Dynamics is far ahead Tesla in their robotics, but BD is creating the Atlas robots (the humanoid ones) as highly specialized purpose made robots while Tesla is planning to make production robots. Made for mass markets. Comparing these two products is like comparing a prototype Ferrari to a production Volvo. You Can compare them, but what's the point, they're made for different purposes. Edit: Also I just realized: What would be the point of using green screen in any of these scenes anyway? If the Bot is CGI, then they would just film the environment, animate the Bot using some animation software, then with some video editing software they would place the Bot in the filmed environment. No green screen needed anywhere in the process. The green screen would make sense if somehow the environment was faked, and the Bot was filmed separately, but that would make the Bot real. And what would be the point of faking an environment that can be filmed in any random office?

There's a valid discussion to be had here about video editing, artifacting, compression, 3D rendering, greenscreens, light reflection etc. But if you start throwing around statements like "there are more wires" without any basis or intention for explanation then it just becomes meaningless. The wires already have a perfectly rational and easy explanation. It's due to compression. Even if the video is in 4K, it goes through several forms of compression at each stage of the rendering pipeline. Even when the light hits the sensors of the camera it's a form of compression. The photons are compressed into RGB pixel values.

2:25 I believe the "noise" is a result dithering and Lossy compression. Dither is an intentionally applied form of noise used to randomize quantization error, preventing large-scale patterns such as color banding in images. Its like scrambling random pixels in a gradient to make it look smoother. If you want to learn more Tom Scott made an excellent video on this called "Why dark video is a terrible mess" Some cameras and all streaming sites including KZbin use these compression methods to save money and/or space. 5:14 This could be a result of interframe compression. Interframe compression (also called temporal compression) reduces file size across multiple frames by creating a starting point and then only saving the changes in subsequent frames. Notice how the "wires" appear only right after the gaps of the panel? that's because the wires are the gaps but dragged out. I don't think the walk was fake mainly because its not impressive. Honda has done a better walk like in 1997 so its not too crazy to believe Tesla can (barley) do it in 2023. I think you might be baiting hate views and comments but I thought the video was fun and I like learning stuff so I'm fine with it.

I’ll do another video debunking all of the robots. Tesla fakes so much stuff I wouldn’t trust them without testing the product. Ahhhh yes, more good points about the alleged faking if teslas Optimus Robot. Im back again to inform you of some more problems with you points you have pointed out. Starting with the hardest point to debunk, your green screen and grainy video point. Now basically every video ever shot has grain in it, some more visible than others. The way cameras work is they work better in lighted conditions as more light is imputed through the camera lense. The reason for the grain in this video is that the neckpiece has been swapped out for a mesh-like material that doesn't reflect light and therefore the camera struggles more with this area. That's why the white, reflective material has less visible grain, though there is still grain visible. You can prove this by looking at the black mats in the background which has massive amount of grain. And now the green screen point. When you altered the video to enhance the green hues, do notice that other things that wouldnt otherwise be green, even if a green screen was present, was altered green like the shadow of the black mats. Is there an explanation of those shadows turning green. You altered the video so even the slightest green anywere in the video would be boosted. Also if a green screen was used, those shadows under the robot would be near impossible to create with such accuracy. In the end, if a green screen was used, what difrence does it have for the to be robot squating infront of a greenscreen have compared to in that specific room. Now the wire point. Im not the first to notice but the supposed “wire” doesnt actualy move with the robot. When the line is there for the few frames, the robot is moving forward while the wire stays stationary. The part about the faking of the self driving video is also another fair point although that was in 2016. Today is 2023. Tesla was a small company in 2016 and it was probably a test of the self driving concept. As they stated, the path was pre routed, might have been a concept for this self driving concept and could have been what they have imagined as a way for self driving to work. Of course companys makes mistakes and learns from them, and evey sucsess doesnt come without failure and mistakes. Every journey has its downs, but that just makes the end result so much better. All this is only what i believe and remember this is a platform for expressing youself so i dont come with any hatred. Im only here to state my opinion, and ill let you share yours.

Hey not to throw a spanner in the works here. And I'm no Musk fan, that's for sure. But if this Optimus you're debunking, by talking about green screening, is CGI then there would be absolutely no need for green screening whatsoever. Placing a CGI in front of a flat background, what this looks to be, is the complete opposite to the requirement for a green screen. Now if you were trying to put the a CGI behind some objects in the real world then, 100%, one way would require a green to be placed where you are trying to place that object. There are other ways now days but this has been, and still is, one of the ways that its done in film work. I learnt this in first half of the first year in a multimedia diploma.

So what? In contrast to the removal of wire, which still can't be proved by this "evidence", this has no relevance. I don't understand why they would need green screen. If the bot is rendered, they would probably compose the rendered frames using masking (cryptomatte for instance), this is available with any modern raytracer. About the wire removal, it looks as though the vertical line follows the background and not the bot. A wire would follow the bot at all times, no? My first thought was "compression artifact" as sharp edges are known to produce ringing artifacts (vertical black line covered briefly by the bot, that is mostly white) around the vertical line. Look under the butt of the bot, there should be no wire under the bot, but the artifact is actually there as well, so artifact from compression, which is a sin in itself. What I do agree with is that they could just control his arms and fingers like they have done before. It looks really nice, but if it's not AI, it's not really impressive. So actually there is nothing new.

I think you're just seeing artifacts in the video. I think the robot is actually real and it's not that impressive. But that is due to some key differences. One is that Boston Dynamics has been developing their robots for over a decade. Tesla has only started developing theirs and Tesla is incorporating AI into the design of the robots which means that these robots are moving slower and more deliberate because they're still learning how to do things. The Boston Dynamics robots do not incorporate AI and every single move is choerographed and deliberately programmed in. Now if you could take the Boston Dynamics robot or vice versa and incorporate a deep learning model that preserves all of the previous programming and enhances that with AI then you would really and truly have amazing robots that would be ready for the workplace etc.

@@Voltaje_YT Boston Dynamics was valued at $1.1 billion in 2021. In 2021 Tesla was valued at $1 trillion. 1000 times the potential budget. I'm surprise the damn thing can't fly. Elon thinks he is Tony Stark. Tesla can afford to develop the hardware in house. Boston Dynamics is limited to off the shelf hardware developed by other companies. Parts that were not designed for robots. So of course Tesla did in two years what Boston Dynamics took ten years to do. Teslas achievement is not impressive in that context. Elon bought up most of the most talented engineers on the planet. He already has an existing AI platform to include in the robot from his EV's. So why the hell would he even need to fake anything. There is no like for like comparison here. All robotics companies are making incredible progress, but none have the budget and resources of Tesla. So of course Optimus (What is it with Elon giving things awful, and often unoriginal names?) is miles ahead of the competition. There are at most four animation studios in the world that could pull of a hoax as convincing as this video. There is no chance in hell any of them would keep it a secret. They would be screaming it from the roof tops. I've watched the video in 4K and the few artifacts people keep pointing to disappear, so they're just due to compression. They haven't even cranked up the speed like some of the earlier videos. There is no jittering and fast shaking this time, unless the robot is much heavier than they say, it's moving normally. If this video is fake, whoever made it will be getting a visit from some very serious people in the near future.

Sorry to disappoint your wish for Tesla to fail, but I'm a seasoned VFX Supervisor and there is clearly no hint of green screening in the squat-shot. It's just lowlight noise. Look at the shadow of the feet: thats not green screened and the floors reflections in the bots head are correct. No wires in the walking shot; those are camera movement artifacts from the toolshed-doors (vertical lines can cause these rippling effects depending on shutter speed and camera movement). To do the nicely lit wall shot in CGI would be an absolute stupid amount of work for the result, especially the rigging. You can even see detailed cloth bending and metal parts behind at elbows height; Especially the plants lighting and lamps clearly suggest that scene is photographic. Lets see how the next years go for this project ;). @miseseconomics

Boston Dynamics uses pre programmed code to move Atlas, and uses hydrolics, its technology is useless to Tesla, which want to use electrical actuators, and make the robot fully electric, additionally, they are building Optimus through AI and machine learning, meaning, the bot will learn through data, the same as FSD, not coding from humans, different approaches make Bosotm Dynamic and Tesla oppsoite.

Regarding the green-screen stuff, doesn't that just prove that the robot was not filmed in the same room, but might otherwise be legitimately doing it's thing before a green-screen? It's obviously still super suspicious though because why bother with green screens in the first place to show a robot doing such utterly trivial things... As an aside, considering it's green-screened, I thought the orange ball reflecting in the robot's 'belly' was a neat touch; probably the only reason that orange ball is in the shot anyway :) But anyway, great job here; Musk's hype train can't be debunked enough.

In your own video, you said that the Tesla Bot Gen 1 is real and that the Gen 2 robot can walk. So I guess you will just have to wait until the next Tesla bot video before you realise your mistake. It is so weird that it seems easier for you to think that Tesla can't build a robot. Elon Musk built SpaceX(reusable rockets) and Tesla(electric cars) which have all the components and experts needed to build a cheaply manufactured robot with great quality. Boston Dynamics has robots that are mostly hydraulics(little to no electric motors) with expensive parts that don't sell. Honda sells a lot of cheaply manufactured cars with great quality but they could not make ASIMO(a robot) cheap enough to sell. However, Elon Musk and his companies have the best engineers to build electric motors, batteries and autonomous systems. If they can automatically dock a spacecraft with the ISS and have cars driving by themself, I am absolutely sure the robots will just take a little more time (they started in 2021).

You only have to manually switch gears from reverse/drive and apply throttle/brake due to legal reasons, but it tells you when to brake/accelerate and does steering by its own. And it only uses proximity sensors. No cameras and all that high tech. Worked flawlessly every time so far for 6 years. The capabilities demonstrated in the Tesla video are real and rather modest. Elon, with rare pessimism, recently estimated 3-5 years until bot deployment. Otherwise you've made a nice effort to make your video entertaining, as well as misleading.
