Boston Dynamics lack of AI, its all pre programmed movements or at least, quite dumb. Then they can keep increasing the quality of the movements but they won't far go without a super complex AI that is a even bigger challenge than movement . Also , they seems to have little idea of scalability and real world applications, that have made them simply a prototype maker for many years and nothing else. They eventually will be superseded by companies that control AI , even with less acrobatic robots, and that can keep cost low. The first contractors were military, that explains also the lack of awareness that visuals of the robots also matters, even this is secondary. They look weapons or heavy use machines that you only would find in industrial buildings.

When that video got made that was the reaction of a lot of people that watched it. I have never understood that reaction. It was a demonstration of the ability of the robot to deal with situations. How can you show the robot can deal with it if you don't put it through it? In addition, that robot does not have a conscious mind. It doesn't remember anything, it doesn't know anything, it doesn't think about anything. The computer brain that it has is only capable of following the instructions that are programmed into it. And no matter what anyone else wants to think, that robot was not abused. It cannot be abused. Everyone who has that feeling is assigning human traits to a machine. This is not something new, as we have been doing this with various machines over the years. The greatest example is our cars. We give them names and we treat them as though they're human. I think it's time people started getting over themselves and started accepting things for what they are instead of making them be something they are not.
