They're actually *fairly* comparable in that the stationary wall provides enough initial resistance to equal/opposite the force from the moving vehicle, localised to the front end 🤷🏻 Vehicle safety tests across the world use it as a 'best replication' scenario when testing for head-on collisions. If it's literally going to provide the same results, why would you wreck two test cars when one will yield the results 🤷🏻 I'm a mechanical engineer though so maybe it's a bit more obvious to me.

But the net deceleration for each one will be from 70 to zero, not from 140 to zero. So, yes crashing into the concrete wall is a good approximation of a head on collision, but in order to apply the results to the real world you have to take into account the weights and speeds of both vehicles to determine the deceleration of each.

To me the takeaway is simple, and agnostic... Always wear your seat belt. I think with a seat belt, all of those were survivable. I preach because some years go I ran headfirst into a semi at highway speeds. If it weren't for my belt being on. If be gone.
