We power our house and a Chevy Bolt with solar and batteries. I drive a Dodge Ram for work. The Bolt is small and fun to drive, and we only charge at commercial charging stations a few times a year. The Ram pickup is incredibly expensive to fill up. I’m not a fan of the Cybertruck’s styling, but we will be getting an EV pickup as soon as we can afford it!

Exactly. I made a jig to glue up a scratcher block. Used tightbond 2 glue. Came out much heavier than the ones sold online. I think they are made with sodium silicate aka water glass for glue.

Also Mate, Having owned RAM 1500's ... and since 2013 with the RAMBOXES ... I can say they are the MOST USEFUL & EFFICIENT part of the truck on a daily basis! No back breaking effort getting into the bed for basic Tools, Trailer Sway Control Arms, Tie Down Straps, Window Squeegee & windex, Rags, spare Oil, ..., and even my Bible & Study papers 😮. I LOVE it... I'd DEFINITELY have it on my CyberTruck if available! Cheers, Eric

I think the legacy automakers are screwed. They waited too long to start EV production and now have to compete with Tesla that has learned how to my EVs at a profit. I don't think they will be able to stay in business during their transition to EVs unless they get huge help from the government.

The security side of things for the cyber truck compared to traditional trucks is absolutely huge. So easy to secure tools , camping gear etc without worrying. Out of sight! And locked!

The benefit of the Cybertruck not really being a real "exoskeleton" is that it's now easier to make it a "platform" for commercial and local delivery vans.

Platform and chassis are 2 different things. The heavy 4x4 high ground clearance chassis of the truck will not suit a van, not sure about its platform. So far, Tesla focused on high margin vehicles, not commercial vehicles, but if they do, the only way they can keep on track with their current models and the Cybertruck, Model 2, Roadster, semi and other trucks will be to build at least one more gigafactory, so probably a brand new platform for vans too.

It doesn't need to be an exoskeleton. The exterior is made of cold-rolled steel without paint. Any other truck on the market chips/flakes/peels/fades/scratches/rusts. Fleet operators are going to love this thing. Companies with large fleets are going to save millions in gas, cosmetic repairs, and maintenance over the next 10 years.

The thing is EV vehicles in general can save everyone a ton of money, especially when it comes to charging fees. If you own your own home, then you can purchase some solar panels, and place them on your roof. Plus you can install a few small wind turbine generators on your roof as well, to help with power, especially if it is a cloudy, or rainy day. You need to also purchase some battery storage packs, which can store all the excess power that is being generated. Not to mention when you are not charging your vehicles, then that power can be used for other things around your home. With both wind and solar, you can become totally off grid, or at a minimum reduce your electric bills each month.

I think the idea of an additional work surface inside the frunk, a separate table for doing other STUFF, is a brilliant idea. Would be nice if they had outlets right there. If so, it would be a huge bonus.

I imagine a collapsible table saw would be perfect for the frunk. Pull it out and use it as a workspace with some fold out legs. Power ports and built in saw. Can cut sheets of plywood, or build some stuff on it. Maybe use it to fix equipment on. Add a work light to the inside of the hood to work late nights.

My son in law went to a Ford dealership to buy a Ford 150 Lightning after the price reductions were announced. He said there was no interest at the dealership in selling him one. That had never happened to him before. The dealerships are angry with Ford and are undermining their EV sales.

The proper solution is that the fines can be paid--by investing that many dollars in a brand-agnostic national charging system. So your fines go directly to making EV use and ownership increase. And, if you retain ownership of those charging stations, it is a capital investment.

I think cyber truck hits the nail for most truck owners especially who live the northern half of the country. No more worrying about road salt/rust on the body of the truck. No more guilt for not washing or worrying about the paint. Not to mention bullet proof glass.

You didn't mention the fact that the Ford Lightning does 'vehicle to grid', (or at least supplies externel AC power), cybertruck and possibly other Tesla vehicles are said to be going to offer this feature which was a big plus in Fords favor. Any more info on this touted possibility?

The 1000V architecture is designed for this purpose. The current hardware doesn't support it. But I assume all models will adopt this once it's out and about in Cybertruck and Model 2.

I use my F250 with an 8ft bed to haul my slide-in camper, switch to my lumber rack to transport 20 ft long lumber or pipe. Load up the bed with 2 tons of gravel or manure. I don’t use it as a substitute for a minivan to haul kids to school or soccer practice. If that’s what I needed I would buy a minivan. I will get an electric pickup when someone makes one to fit my needs.

Only Plus for Ford in my opinion is the option of Bi-directional charging...it will provide about the same energy as 8 PowerWalls to power your house during an outage. I may have to give it a look. Come on Elon, you could do this too!!!!

They will...it's just better to use a PowerWall to not deplete your vehicles battery lifetime. Replacing a PowerWall / Batteries inside, much easier than replacing the battery from your vehicle.

@@davidc2838 I have only needed to power my house during two hurricanes in the last 15 years and both times it was for four or five days. I would look at a bi directional vehicle as an emergency generator to use very occasionally. I am very careful with charging my Tesla and the battery after two years has about 98% of its original range so I don’t think it would hurt it to use it in the scenarios I just referred to.

I think it looks like it belongs on mars and would expect the driver to step out in a space suit. To each their own on style. If it had a traditional pickup bed, a crossover tool box can be mounted, a ladder rack etc. The sides of the bed are too high to get items out. Fleet sales are huge, contractors etc. I don't see traditional truck buyers buying the truck. That said I think it will sell well to first time truck buyers. The specs are good, wrapped in a more traditional truck body and you'd get fleet sales and upfitter interest. Like anything else, if it suits your needs buy it.

CyberFrunk - a place for a spare catalytic converter and a couple of replacement oxygen sensors. Keep spare timing belts and tensioners in the frunk. Spare oil filters bought in bulk would fit. Oh, brake pads and rotors would also fit. You could store an entire set of fuel injection nozzles, plus fuel filters and replacement fuel pumps. Radiator hoses and thermostats for your annual coolant flush (some years a new radiator is required). Don't forget new exhaust pipes and mufflers. Yup. that frunk will come in handy alright.

There are scant pull through superchargers that a Cybertruck could get into with a trailer hooked up, and when they build them, nothing to keep cars from using them when there's no truck with trailer present. Of course the trucks arent selling, too damn expensive. Their base have been excluded and only a small number, and I mean small number can afford a truck over 73k. I just came back from my local Ford dealer and a mustang mach e awd was 74k. Tesla got my money today. Model 3 and Y have become americas affordable car outside of cheap imports.

I have no interest in purchasing a "pickup truck," but I will not shed any tears for Ford, GM, etc. for getting themselves into such a pickle. A picture pops into my mind of the remains of the Packard factory in Detroit.

Ford has great products in the Mach-e and Lightning, however, charging them sucks. They won't sell many until they have the Tesla charge port in the "correct" location of the vehicle, so Tesla Superchargers can be used easily. The Cybertruck is not displacing Ford sales. As noted by other reviewers, Fords software sucks too, however, that's not a showstopper.

The CT will absolutely replace some of Ford's sales. Especially when Tesla sells through the initial fans and gets to Fleet Sales. They mostly care about Operating Costs and Maintenance.

American pickups are luxury lifestyle vehicles for at least 95% of the market. Vans are used for real work. The "rugged far right country" lifestyle they exude makes that they are more desirable the less environmentally sound they are. As such, an electric truck will be just as successful and a "Toyota Prius NRA Edition". The Cybertruck will sell a few trucks here and there, for actual work purposes, but overall the US market for electric trucks is negligible.

Cybertruck is the most American Made vehicle, joined by the world best selling Model Y ... Model 3, Model S, Model X. GM and Ford have much more foreign content, arriving in the rankings in the upper teens and twenties. Tesla owns the top 5 American Made rankings.

If Tesla have 1.8 million Cybertruck orders and even if only half of them are realistic, Tesla should build 250,000 Cyber trucks a year and the market will have to absorb them at a legacy car builders expense.

Why should customers buy second rate vehicles(trucks) especially ones that rust out in five years? Ones that don't sell because of the Osborne effect of offering a second rate vehicle when everyone is waiting on the CT. CT IS KILLING legacy auto and when the final specs are revealed 400 miles for the low end 500+ for the mid version and 620 miles for the high end. I know the ranges were revealed at the original reveal but I never believed them I always have thought the base ct was going to be 350-400 miles. Mid 500+ and the high end 620 plus.

Ford, GM, and Stellantis should be worried. Sky-high full-sized truck prices, awful fuel economy, and high fuel cost make Cybertruck attractive. Most full-sized truck buyers want the interior space and don't need or use the cargo and towing limits. If Cybertruck can compete on driving range for a family of four and maybe 200 pounds of gear, then Tesla could eventually sell hundreds of thousands of Cybertrucks per year as pricing falls over the next few years.
