Really the major issue with the Rivian system is it needed two motors instead of a connecting rod (or a larger motor and connecting rod), and larger sprocket teeth with deeper engagement. It's a beautifully elegant design. Cybertruck tonneau looks like an existing roller door design only slightly adapted to this use. It almost looks like an off-the-shelf product dropped in.

Having driven a Cybertruck as my primary vehicle for seven months, and also used it for heavy work tasks, I can honestly say, I don't miss using the rear window at all. I never drive with the tonneau open unless I have a tall load in back. Even in the rain, when the camera is blurry, I can see what I need to see, the mirrors cover the lane you are in, right up to a car length behind you. And the camera works fine for the car riding your ass, the fact that it's a bit blurry matters zero. People who think they need a panoramic rear view must be terrible drivers. I've driven trucks and delivery vans for various jobs over many decades that had no rear view at all, just side mirrors. I've never thought twice about it, it's only a problem if you are programmed to think you need a window looking backwards. You don't.

A lot of engineering went into that bed cover. Cybertruck is not a common work truck. Its expensive. The sail panels allow for a taller cover, allowing for taller items such as boxes, pressure washers and many tools to be out of the elements. and secured. Reach over from the side has been a common negative observation. CT lowers per it's air suspension, thus alleviating some of that concern. Have you stood next to a full-sized pickup truck lately? Every year, they seem to get taller. Most current offerings do not have air suspensions offering height adjustment.. So much so that legacy OEMs come up with elaborate steps, articulated tailgates and folding grab handles, etc.. Many consumers add lift kits which greatly exacerbate the bed height issue. Rivian's truck is also not a work truck anybody will find on a jobsite. Its tonneau was a joke. With a four foot bed, a paint finish prone to scatches and a similarly premium pricepoint. I see Rivian as a wealthy man's Gladiator or Bronco pickup for the Land Rover crowd. At least Cybertruck is a truck. The Silverado EV "Work Truck" costs 2 Motor Cybertruck money ( non Founder's Edition ), so perhaps a job foreman or business owner could drive one to the work site, but all EV trucks today fall into the Gentleman Trucker category.

The back wall is removeable you get the bed plus the space till the front seats. Its great for camping... you remove the window and have an airconditioned tent! Wich is awesome in the summer. Plus a spare wheel without loosing the bed. like in the cypershit LMAO. Plus you can reach into the bed and get things wich is impossible in the cyperssss due to the angels above the bed. A lot of plugs for electricity. Plus the fastest charging of any ev truck out there... its charges up to 100% in the same time the cypergarbage truck does... but has twice the battery! And it costs less!!!! If you want a great truck at great cost than go with chevy rivian or ford... The chevy is the king of EV trucks right now.

Saying "POM" is not helpful without defining it. Polyoxymethylene (POM), also known as acetal, polyacetal, and polyformaldehyde, is an engineering thermoplastic used in precision parts requiring high stiffness, low friction, and excellent dimensional stability.

That mechanism will be eating debris ... question is how tolerant is the spooling mechanism to small pieces of whatever? Is it somewhat self cleaning with the downward angle ... off the back? How accessible is the mechanism for service?
@ZipZoomZipАй бұрын
You can't discuss the size of the mechanisms without discussing the size of the tonneau cover. The Rivian only has to cover a 4.5 foot bed while the Cybertruck has a bed over 6 feet long. As far as cost, Tesla reduces part count where it doesn't impact functionality or reliability, but their primary way of reducing costs is to design to be built more quickly, with less labor. And Tesla just revealed they hit profitability with the Cybertruck in Q3, while the Rivian R1T has been in production for years and is nowhere near being able to be manufactured profitably, even though it has less durability and damage resistance, less repairability, smaller cargo area, smaller rear seat, less payload capacity, less efficiency, the stereo doesn't sound as good, it's not as smooth riding, it's not as quiet, it has less ground clearance, it doesn't come with 35" tires, it doesn't have steer-by-wire and the nimbleness that enables, no four wheel steering, the tonneau cover is an optional expense, the Climate Control System is not as powerful or as efficient, the software and navigation is not as powerful and accurate, the throttle response is not as refined, and the Stereo doesn't sound as amazing. In short, its much less truck, even when spending the same $79.9K. So I think you are harping on the wrong company here, in terms of cost to build. Yes, you can be sure the Cybertruck tonneau cover is not manually assembled. It won't be 100% automatic either, but you can be sure someone isn't assembling all those repetitive parts manually. I mean, the truck is already profitable, after only one year. The R1T cannot be profitable without a complete redesign. It's not even close.

Reminds me of the old 1980s TV cabinets with dual sliding covers (made of wooden veneer strips) that open/close from both sides😊. Hope they have some kind of software lock to the motor(looks more like a beefed up wiper motor?)🤞. If not, Hot wiring the tonneau cover(powering the worm gear? motor externally?), might become a Tiktok trend 🤞❤👍

Would be nice if Tesla had developed a rearview mirror with a display, along with a washer for the back camera. It looks so bad to have the rear camera taking up screen space. I love the Vault Cover and the concept of Cybertruck, but ever since the stainless steel became just paneling, it seems like the weight penalty ruins the efficiency gains from the aerodynamics. Please just give us a Model Y truck with air suspension. That's what the market needs. Ford should do that for Ranger and make a 1999-size F150 electric.

When you close the gap at the tailgate is 5/8" different at the tailgate, as well as at the roof line. You can see that they are not parallel. Can you see any idea what this is being so common? Is it hard to get it straight? Are the motors just calibrated differently maybe?
