There is one huge difference between the R1T and the Cybertruck. You can get a Rivian right now as opposed to waiting 3-5 years on the waiting list for a Cybertruck. I'm picking up my R1T tomorrow and in a few years when Cybertrucks are actually available I'll take another look.

You missed three very big things that are significant that the Cybertruck has: 4 wheel steering (which allows for a tight turning radius), Steer by Wire (after you get used to it, it's much easier to maneuver), and the 48 volt architecture (which isn't a big truck thing but is a significant improvement to the electrical system).

@@EforElectric why you think it isn't important?
@BarryObaminable
@BarryObaminable 5 ай бұрын
@@EforElectricSteer by wire potentially allows the truck to be cheaper, more efficient, and easier to park. it also allows for variable 4 wheel steering. Its another "best part is no part" and contributes to the lower weight of cybertruck than rivian, despite being longer and wider. The bed cover is an advantage because it provides a removable cover for bed contents. Most of these covers require a hard bed cover which means you must remove the bed cover to put a washer and dryer in the bed, and have garage space and a buddy to get the cover off. OR, it has to roll up and eat up space in your bed, or it has to be vinyl and provide no security that cant be bypassed with an $8.99 box cutter from home depot. It can be debated that steer by wire is an advantage because nobody sees a cheaper price, and longer range as there isnt a version available without these, but the tonneau cover is definitely an advantage Another advantage of steer by wire is 0.0% driver impalements in an accident. Not too many people live to complain after being impaled by their steering shaft. The cybertruck is definitely polarizing though. Uber drivers should love it, and can do pickups in Southeast DC and Chicago, due to the bullet resistance. I think both Rivian and Cybertruck are fine trucks. Its like arguing whether an apple or an orange is better for your lunch snack fruit.

Last Summer, driving a Tesla on an highway at 120 K/h, the so called "autopilot" caused the car to go full stop. There was nothing around us to justify that, and the car behind came closed to crash into us. Imagine if it was a truck, or a semi. I am not an expert but this seems far from "best in the market" to me. After that I deactivated the thing and felt much safer having it off.

Making sci-fi a reality Cybertruck deliveries begin today! - More utility than a truck, faster than a sports car 11,000 lbs towing capacity, 2,500 lbs max payload. Est. 340 miles of range. (Dual Motor) 0-60 in 2.6 seconds. (Tri Motor) - Ultra-hard stainless steel exoskeleton & shatter-resistant Armor Glass Fewer dents, less damage & long-term corrosion. Easy & simple repairs. Armor Glass can resist the impact of a baseball at 70 mph or class IV hail & acoustic glass helps make the cabin insanely quiet. - Steer-by-wire & rear steering Gives you the handling of a sports car & a better turning radius than most sedans. Also, incredible stability & maneuverability for a full-size truck. - 4-corner adaptive air suspension Offers 12” of travel & 17” of clearance. - Plenty of storage 6’x4’ bed that doesn’t need a liner & is big enough for 4’x8’ construction materials. 67 cu ft of lockable storage (additional 54 cu ft available with rear seats folded up), with a Vault cover that’s strong enough to walk on. - Power everything Integrated outlets: 120v cabin power, 120v & 240v bed power. If the grid goes down, Cybertruck can provide up to 11.5 kW of power directly to your home. - Space & comfort like a living room 18.5” touchscreen in the front & 9.4” touchscreen in the back, both with all-new UI. 15 speakers with 2 dedicated subwoofers & distributed amplifiers create a studio quality sound stage-obviously goes to 11.

Alex, what don't you get about Tesla opening up its superchargers? The company's mission is "accelerate the transition to sustainable energy." When they started building cars, they realized that making fast charging convenient would be important, so started building Superchargers. When it became obvious that opening up the Superchargers would make EVs in general more desirable, they did so. I drove an EV from Phoenix to Oregon last summer, charging at EA and ChargePoint fast chargers. Having no idea how many chargers were available, throttled, in use or out of service was discouraging. Small wonder that even VW has said they are going to NACS. Now it's time to get the other networks up to the same leve.

You really believe their company's mission? That's adorable. Now back to reality, it's the service to current Tesla owners to just give away a huge part of the value to other EV owners while Tesla has not been building supercharger locations fast enough to keep up with its own production. There are more Tesla cars per each location now than ever. This is not the time to make it worse.

Great. Some key points missing: 1. Tesla vectoring of the rear wheels. 2. Tesla turns by wire (good and bad). 3. Tesla lacks of space wheel, what kind of adventure vehicle does not have a spare wheel. 4. Alex, you forgot some of the most important difference. Cybertruck has 4-wheel steering, 48 volt electric architecture (a first in the auto industry), steer by wire with no mechanical steering linkage (another first), a bigger bed (72 inches vs. 54 inches), 800 volt battery pack vs. 400 volt, etc. However, Rivian R1T has a bigger frunk, the pass-through gear tunnel storage, and traditional bed shape that can accommodate readily available 3rd party truck caps. Btw, Tesla should be able to do the turn as the have 4-wheel steering and steer-by-wire. Those function should more than make up for the lack of a 4th motor. I'm surprised that Tesla hasn't worked on the software to allow it.

Range…I could stomach one or the other but not both). Both are important steps in true utility truck EVs but neither are ready for actual truck duties in rural Texas where I live). Maybe 2.0’s will be…battery manufacturing costs have dropped over the past 5 years counter to inflation so there’s no reason not to include more range for less money. These EV companies are making mistakes by allowing for traditional car companies time to catchup…put a 520 mi. Range nail in that coffin!
@OweEyeSea

I wouldn't want a 520+ mile version even if it was priced the same as the 340 mile version. Why? That would add considerably more weight and reduce cargo space. And the reduced efficiency due to the added weight would ironically mean *more* charging time. I believe fewer than 1% of potential buyers actually need that much range. And of those, probably only 1% need it enough they are willing to pony up an extra $15k+ for it. So maybe 1 in 10,000. Even if I'm way off, it's probably still a small enough potential market that no manufacturer is ever going to offer that outside of a bolt on accessory.

I give you credit for being fair in your comparison. Especially how bias you are against Tesla. Especially the FSD product, that as a current user have to say today’s FSD is a very good driver assist package. Is it perfect, we both know it still has a ways to go. Is it safe, combined with an attentive driver it makes me a safer driver. It can see in all directions at once. Most of the issues I see with current version seems to be bad map data in some areas. Maybe it’s time for you to make a trip back to US and try out the current FSD beta. You did forget few items or I missed them for the CyberTtuck. First is the larger bed able to fit a full 4/8 plywood sheet with tailgate down. Then we have 17.1” ground clearance to Rivian’s 14.4”. @6:15 Business acumen! Don't forget The Mission Statement.....thus helps with the World's EV adoption. When you see NOT all the superchargers are included in the rollout, you can adjust the overruns for Tesla Vehicle owners getting access privileges somewhere around the Worid, even if it's only the US for now! I know they're open to other brands using the Tesla units in Oz.....just haven't looked into the fine print

EV truck fans are going to have to come to terms with EV limitations, namely range. No way batteries are ever going to replicate energy density that liquid hydrocarbon fuels provide--ever. Moreover, weather conditions and towing will knock down EV range as well. So 260 miles EPA is not really 260 miles in the real world. During harsh winter days, it could be as little as 150 miles. Bottom line: EV's are best suited for around town use with those who have access to home charging. On the other hand, if you're willing to factor in 45-60 minute fast charging times on cross country trips, then you could use one for that as well. However, commercial operators may have a serious challenge with such impositions.

I still think 275 - 300 range is the sweet spot. Stopping every 2ish hours on a road trip works for me. As for trucks, a study showed that 65% of F-150 owners did not tow or haul anything with their trucks so the cybertruck not being the best truck is not even a consideration when most trucks are just for show at this point. While I appreciate the technology in the Cybertruck I much prefer the Rivian offerings. The R1T offers the benefits of a car and truck with that large frunk. I don't really need a truck but a Rivian would suit my limited needs better. Somewhere to throw my bicycles, maybe some big Costco runs, etc. Once Rivian can use the Tesla chargers it will really make it great. I thought I would miss Android Auto but I have not in my Tesla. I do not like that Elon's temper tantrums can affect my media choices though.

Cybertruck is no match for R1T. R1T is way better in off-road capability, range, interior material quality and looks. Tesla are just selling a steel vessel with an autopilot which is not even efficient in today’s world. They’re just making a statement using their brand identity, misusing profits. One should not gain from meaningless products. What’s the need for bulletproof material? Where did the sustainability go? In a mission based company, every product should speak for its company’s mission.

Two words describe the long awaited release of the Cyber Truck...Bait & Switch. My opinion on the reason for Tesla opening up their charger network to other manufacturers is revenue. Three more things, 1st it does not have armored glass, 2nd the stainless steal is just ordinary stainless steal, 3rd the exoskeleton design means it will likely never be sold outside of the US, as it is a death sentence for any pedestrian who comes into contact with it.
