Great questions! The question of what's holding up the Tesla semi is at the top of my list. While I believe that the demand for Models 3 and Y is simply planing off as those models age, it seems to me that there is a huge demand out there for the semi. And getting diesel tractor/trailers off the roads would be a big win for the environment. So what is the holdup? And why isn't Tesla building out a charging network for these vehicles? I'm really mystified by this one--especially now that overall demand for batteries has eased off along with the established automakers all backpedalling on their electrification plans. Also, unlike Models 3, Y and 2 (or whatever the possible compact model is called) the demand for the Semi will be totally unaffected by the success or failure of the robotaxi. So why not go full bore into producing that today? The only possible answer that I can think of is that diverting those batteries into stationary Megapack production is more profitable. But I would love to know the answer to this question.

I think we need to ask for an update on Corpus Cristy Lithium refinery, what is the lithium tonnage output likely to be, at what price etc. Will this home grown lithium ensure telsa continues to get all the IRA credits, when others might not

My God, the delay in the semi is companies realize they cannot set up charging due to the grid, it’s way too expensive to install mega chargers, they can only be used for short routes. No demand.

I think Musk is thinking Tesla doesn’t need to build nearly as many vehicles as they previously thought, with Robotaxis and Tesla owners’s FSD-shared vehicles being used such a large %age of the time. And the vehicles they do build will eventually be via the unboxed process which requires a lot less room.

Why isn’t Tesla building the Mexican plant? The reason is, Trump stated that he was going to put an important tax on cars and car parts coming from Mexico. This was because, Mexico wasn’t doing enough to stop illegal immigration through their borders.

The trade deal we have today was negotiated by him just a few years ago. It's extremely challenging to get new trade agreements passed, and certainly not when it's lopsided.

@@FutureAZA my theory is they were surprised by the lack of additional demand from the price cuts, so decided to better spend that capex on H100s etc for fsd and optimus. The lack of certainty of IRA credits for the battery packs, but do you get IRA credits on exported cars?

Rare earth and lithium, there will be an over abundance in the future. New motor and generator designs for modular fusion reactors will become the major source of electricity. Recycling old cars will supply 90% of the metals instead of mining.

They may not need to build a LFP factory because of the glut of excess batteries due to the legacy automakers canceling or reducing their previous battery orders due to their shift to reduced production of EVs and the move to hybrids with much smaller batteries than EVs.

The hold up in Mexico and India or holding up model 3 in Berlin etc is its all about robotaxi right now. If Robotaxi is a huge hit then its possible Tesla may stop making cara for consumers in the next few years. If thats the case then they dont want to disrupt themselves.

The lack of planned factories for me points too that Tesla are not planning for a true Model 2/$25K car. I think their plan is not to build Tesla branded un-boxed cars, rather only license/re-brand them and will announce the factories when license deals are made. Tesla will create their own RoboTaxi.

I would love some sort of confirmation if Tesla is expecting some sort of upgradability from AI4 to AI5 computers, even for a reasonable cost. (I am looking at the Juniper, would I need to hold off to get AI5. Since AI5 and its ETA was announced if upgradable, if they could put some sort of upgradable to AI5 mark on the current models, help prevent people from waiting, help sales.

I thought the tariff for tesla in Europe had been adjusted a couple of times and it’s down to around 7% now? Why no gigacasting for model 3. In fact even model y only uses gigs casting in Germany at the moment? I just haven’t heard any different do you guys know and if so can you cover in a future podcast.

Why no Mexico? 1)Because they can expand at Giga Texas for the unboxed models and the engineers in Texas won’t have live in Mexico sleeping on the factory floors away from their families in Austin Texas. 2) If Trump gets elected, he has promised to raise tariffs on Mexican imports in order to bring back manufacturing jobs to the US 3) Lower capital costs expanding Giga Texas and faster build out in Texas.

Mexico would be an export hub for the 30+ countries the US doesn't have free trade agreements with. I agree it's smart to dial in unboxed in a place where the engineers will be comfortable, but you'd think they'd still want to have it underway to scale as quickly as possible.

@@FutureAZA You are correct, but when you look at the economics and profitability of reoccurring revenue of a Robotaxi service, you can see why Tesla is prioritizing the CyberCab production above all else. If they need to produce some of the next generation $25k - $30k vehicles to appease the analysts that still think Tesla is just a car company and a Robotaxi service is years away, they can produce a couple of hundred thousand of these at the Giga Texas factory as well in parallel lines with the CyberCab.

@@FutureAZA The unboxed car will be built in Mexico and the USA. But we need to see what is going to happen after the election and when the US production is perfected and rampant. I totally agree, Tesla will need to build cars in Mexico to take advantage of Mexico’s trade agreements.
