The reason the stock tanked after the robotaxi event is two fold. One, it exposed that Tesla is still no closer to achieving FSD or autonomous robots than they were 2 years ago and two, the Robotaxi's existence implies that FSD for all the people who paid up to $14,000 for it on their Model X, S, 3, Y are now never going to see it because Tesla has moved on from that plan. The fact that there is not a single one of these robotaxis in the Las Vegas Loop right now, and it's still Model 3s being driving by minimum wage workers, tells you everything you needed to now about how real these cars were.
@ashishpatel350Ай бұрын

@onetwothreefour-s1nАй бұрын
Correct
@ccoder4953Ай бұрын
The other thing is that robotaxis are a very limited business. IF they somehow make it work (and that's a big if), the total market for that is pretty small. I guess Tesla's hoping to take market share from taxi companies and Uber, but hard to imagine that's going anywhere anytime soon, even if the tech were ready today. What Tesla needed to launch was a small cheap car (think Chevy Bolt competitor) and a revamped Model S, 3 and maybe X. But no, Elon wants a robotaxi (still fixated on that after how many years?) so that's what they're doing.

@notachannel7495Ай бұрын
@@mcsike7264 They still haven't caught the Lightning for sales to date in 2024. Also, Lightning was a huge hit until they had run through the initial hype. Ultimately, Ford saw the waning demand, so they lowered production, while basically every automaker has delayed or pivoted away from 'all-in on EV'. They can go with the market (hybrids, PHEV, and yes, Ford still sells a huge number of F-150s). Tesla has nowhere to pivot to - oh wait, they already did - AI and robotics... maybe, someday, no details, at best murky monetization paths, etc. The automaker who is looking really smart is Toyota - and no wonder since their idea of long-term corporate strategy works on something like a 25-year horizon, not Elon's latest fever dream. EVs will continue to get better, and the charging options, etc. It's just not happening at the pace that was anticipated. As I mentioned, the big guys can pivot, but Tesla can't. When you look at the market cap between, say, Tesla and VAG, GM, Ford, Mercedes, Volvo, whatever, and compare it to revenue, it's clear that Tesla has a problem. Oh, and forget about markets where Chinese EVs are - Tesla doesn't stand a chance in mass, low-price point markets, and shows no signs of pursuing a low-cost EV. The reason is their margin in vehicles is shrinking toward reality, leaving them solid margin in software like FSD. Folks who want a $30K EV aren't going to shell-out the cash for something like FSD, so Tesla is in another corner on that end of the market.
@kevinW826Ай бұрын

The exact same thing happened with the DeLorean. Thousands of people put down money before they were released. But when they were finally released they suffered from a collapsed global economy and a horrible reputation for unreliability in the first run of cars. People got gun shy and passed on their order leaving the company with thousands of unsold cars. This scenario, though, was complicated by the fact John DeLorean saw the writing on the wall, and in a last ditch effort to save the company ramped up production way way beyond their ability to sell them in the last dying days. Since then, though, all the quirks of the DeLorean have been worked out by Stephen Wynn and the aftermarket making the DeLorean a very reliable and collectible car now.

Without Back to the Future it would probably be long forgotten. I have to admit they look really cool though.

@@MrDuncl Yeah, I'd agree with that.

Actually the Tesla Big Rig is Driving Hwy. 99 in California now. I passed one pulling a Frito-Lay Trailer 2 weeks ago near Merced, CA.

Tesla needs to be like "Ok guys, the Cybertruck is over, that was fun. Here's the real Tesla Truck Model Blah Blah!". And have that look like a real truck.

On Sept 30 the stock price was $260. After the robo-taxi thing it fell (off a cliff) to $220. It's still at $220.

I prorated the number of CT they would sell early on - after the first recall because they publish number of units affected. I used a YTer's reservation number at delivery time, number of 'deposits' published, and number of units delivered to estimate number that would be sold, and I think it was 45K. It has gone the way of the Hummer and for the same reasons: Too heavy, too expensive, fuel hog, impractical.

Meanwhile Chinese EV manufacturer BYD is doing great because it has a gigantic home market and in expanding world markets its prices undercut its competition by half to two-thirds. Warren Buffet is invested in BYD.

You were questioning the low price of the cyber taxi. I’d assume they’re going to charge by the mile also after delivery.

Give me Heels up Harris' number so I can call and laugh when she loses in a few weeks. lol Seriously though just reply STOP to the texts and it should stop them from texting you for the political stuff anyway and automated messages anyway.
