Tesla Holiday Update 2021.44.25.2 | Review after a few days

Tesla launched V11 of their user interface software a few days ago. Here is my review after using it for about 4 days. Highlighting the good and not so good elements it brings.
Here’s what’s new:
Tesla Light Show: Anybody with a computer can now create their own unique Tesla Light Show, no Tesla vehicle required. Using xLights, free open-source software, you can create a light show to perform with any music of your choice. You can then download your show, or shows from other creators, onto a USB flash drive and upload it to your car.
Light Show also comes pre-loaded with one song for you to enjoy, and works with all new Model S, new Model X, and any Model 3 or Model Y.

New User Interface: Every Model 3 and Model Y, along with legacy Model S and Model X fitted with an Intel Atom® Processor, will receive a fresh digital look that carries over design elements from our new generation Model S and Model X. Several notable features include a customizable app launcher, simplified controls menu and support for a dark mode appearance.
Updated Navigation: New navigation allows you to hide map details for a clean, simplified look, and you can now add and quickly reorder multiple stops on your route. Your Tesla will automatically update arrival times and battery levels for each destination.
Games: Sonic the Hedgehog added to Tesla Arcade for even more excitement and a bit of nostalgia during charging stops. You can now also give your brain a workout with Sudoku, or challenge your friends with The Battle of Polytopia multiplayer.
Audio: For an even better audio experience, there are now five levels of Immersive Audio, including an Auto setting that adapts to the content you’re playing, and you can adjust subwoofer output independently to get just the right amount of punch from the bass.
Blind Spot Camera: When signaling to change lanes or make a turn, a live camera view of your blind spot will activate on your touchscreen.
Sentry Mode Live Camera Access: Sentry Mode Live Camera Access feature for the rest of North America and the majority of Europe. This feature allows you to view the live feed from the Autopilot cameras directly on your Tesla app (Premium connectivity required)
For every Model 3 and Model Y, we’ve also added automatic seat heater functionality: first-row seat heaters will automatically adjust based upon cabin conditions and climate control settings.

I have live streaming of the security cameras. It’s quite useful. I don’t like the loss of buttons such as seat heaters, tyre pressures, trip meter, LTE driver profiles etc. The side camera when indicating isn’t well done as my hand gets in the way. Sonic is meh. Nice to have but not essential. I wish I could make the car part smaller so I could have a larger map. I miss the large map we used to have.

Ah, see I almost feel like I’d like to go the other way and get rid of the map. I think that’s a new option in the latest FSD beta to make the visualisation whole screen. Don’t really need the map as know where I’m going. Be good to be able to just turn it off

Live sentry mode is working in the UK, needs the latest mobile app also, but definitely working!

It is but you need Premium Connectivity

Ah, thought it might be as it was in the software update info, but no option to activate it. So guess the option appears if you have premium connectivity then. Thanks for the update 👍🏻

I use that live distance/time/watts per mile pop up all the time - I am annoyed they have got rid of that for what appears to be no good reason. It was just enough information - I don't need that entire screen full of data thanks which covers the map.

Good video. The large part of the screen given up to a picture of the car is a waste for me as the shortcut for the consumption /trip data is overcomplicated and involves reaching over and takes your eye away from the road. Let’s see what others make of heated seat controls-I preferred the old icons on the bottom for this.

I do think we have wasted space at the bottom now. It would be nice to be able to choose what we have there from any of the options in the control section

Good to see you back on KZbin🙂. Nice video 👍 and I agree with your comments. For a car that ostensibly prioritises safety fairly highly , adding an extra step to access features while driving is a step backwards. The camera indicator function is OK, but I'd much rather have a BSM warning light in the wing mirror like a lot of other cars.

Thanks. It was good to be back editing again. Forgot how much I enjoy it, just haven’t had the time. It’s odd they’ve gone for additional sets. I might try and experiment with the voice control a bit more. As maybe that is a better way to access stuff now? But before it’s always been a bit ropey

Excellent video, I also hate that they have moved the driving info to trips, I used that constance driving to see how economically I was driving and how far I had gone, and to swipe and glance at tyre info, bad update in my opinion. Also why did they move the driver profiles away from the top of the screen. Annoying!

Yeah, that top bar was not intrusive and had some nice shortcuts to stuff, I can see some u-turns coming on some of the changes, as reading around it, a lot of people weren’t happy

Great video. Yes, live sentry mode works for us in the UK. As you showed, tapping either temp arrow brings up a card facilitating quick control of the heated seat, windscreen heaters etc. Same by pressing the wiper button for wiper control card, and lights etc. According to Tesla/Elon tweets, there are plenty of tweaks and enhancements coming. Isn’t that just incredible?…and all for free. Edit: Oh, and Tidal sounds magnificent, a real improvement to Spotify. Good to see you back by the way.

One thing of the many things Tesla are good at is listening to the fans. So I imagine any gripes we have will be sorted pretty quickly. It’s good to see it still evolving and not sitting still though 😬

Let's see if we will see this year the "model q or model 2" with a realistic range of 250 280 miles realistic range and new battery pack with a guarantee of 12 years or 250.000 miles and battery capacity 75 per cent after those miles! And we need a cheaper evs less than 25.000 pounds with 280 realistic miles even less even 20.000 pounds!!! And also we need real green energy and power and batteries recycling more than 95 per cent and able to be used for at least 3 or 4 more times,! Let's hope tesla or other companies are able to facilitate that in 2023 or 2024!!

Since I've loaded this update I've had issues with my screen not coming on....didn't come on for 10 mins the other day. Anyone else experiencing this issue?

So far, not had any issues with how it runs….touch wood. Maybe do a hard reset and see if that sorts it out?

I did not buy the Self-Driving option with my Model 3 so I have to sit in the driver's seat and concentrate to do normal driver like things. I think for Tesla owners like me this update might have made us a little more dangerous on the road. Any action that requires 'menu diving' rather than a single press will mean taking your eyes off the road for longer. A simple example for me would be a quick press of the camera icon - gone... I have already bemoaned the lack of the live distance/time/W per miles display that I could have constantly displayed - now I have to go looking for it. It does seem this update is aimed as Tesla owners with full self-drive capability that use their car more like a games room. Meh - I am to old for this 😀

I think you could be right. Its the UI designed for Full self driving, but unfortunately it’s a bit ahead of its time. Unless Elon has a major surprise up his sleeve 🤞🏻

Sentry mode used to be a ‘one-touch’ click at the top of the screen which was great and I used it everytime I left the car in a Parking lot, now I have to go through the Car icon menu… silly🤦‍♀️

You can set it to come on automatically if you like and exclude things like work, home and favourite locations. Let me know if you can’t find out how to activate it 👍🏻

Automatic seatheaters.. 2019 M3P they are not good.. (perhaps they use different heating elements in different manufacturing patches..) there is not granual enough, even when car drops them to lowest settings it is way too hot. Even in freezing conditions here in Finland few minutes of auto-mode is too much/enough and after that I have to put it off for rest of drive. And there are lot of other annoying things in this new update.. usability has decreased..

It might be different elements, as I find currently setting 1 isn't quite doing it for me, but can't be bothered to take it off the auto setting to step it up to level 2.

Best video so far I’ve seen on this update. Nice and clearly presented and not rushed like many. I really like the new update. Only thing that took me a while to find was the fog lights. I personally never use the trip computer as I don’t care about my efficiency so much as I charge from home. I just drive it and charge it when I need as so cheap to run. I understand it could be annoying though for people who like to look at the stats. Overall though a refreshing new look which I’m happy with 👍🏻

Thanks Mike, I’m gradually come round to it. Like I didn’t mention I do like the bigger buttons when you do go to the control panel, it’s easier to hit options when you are driving now, where as before they were smaller to chose lights for example

Did anyone lose the battery pack display under the charging menu? I used to be able to change the battery level via the slider on that screen. Now it's gone after latest update. It seems that i can only move the slider via the app . 2013 MS

My friend has premium connectivity and we played with it today, it’s pretty cool, but also kinda weird you can just park your car up now to spy on people if you want, not sure I’ll be paying £9.99 a month for it at the mo. Glad we have the option though

Thanks. I filmed the light show yesterday, but going to have another go tomorrow. It’s pretty tricky to get the lighting right. Needs to be dark, but not too dark 😂. Hopefully get it out Monday 👍🏻
