A couple more things to note: The 250kw max charge is only sustained for a very short period, for the majority of the charge between 20% and 80% on the LR the charge will sit around 150kw in good weather, the LFP battery although only able to accept 170 Kw max will sit around 110 kw for most of the charge. In a recent software update Tesla changed the charge recommendation from 90% to 80% on a regular basis for NMC battery cars (the long range) While the complete drivetrain warranty is slightly less on the RWD version, on average, LFP batteries will last 2.5 to 3 times longer (LFP is rated at 4500 full charge cycles) v NMC ( the long rage batteries are rated at 1500-1800 full charge cycles).

Mid Jan 2024 have rented Highland Model 3 for a couple days. RWD Stealth Grey with the white interior. It's much tighter than a 30 min test drive showed. Very easy to drive at or under the speed limit which is a positive in Melb. I wouldn't have gone for Stealth Grey and white seats if I was ordering. But the black and white door cards look great and of course both the driver and passenger cover the seats anyway. And if you need to get away from an idiot or like clear road, plenty of acceleration. Cancelled an XPower order earlier this week, still have a Seal on order. But the Tesla might be more resolved. The rear screen is novel, the boot is huge!

Just got this car, and I'm still working on the best way to signal when leaving small (European) roundabouts. You have to keep the correct hand free and forget about left/right or up/down: You want the arrow that is pointing to the center of the wheel. Best to locate the button as soon as you are on the roundabout, so you can keep eyes on the road when exiting the round about. Should be fine in a week or so. Tesla wish list: when on a roundabout, make any of the steering wheel buttons act as right indicator (or left, in left-driving countries).

Good review. I was wating for this car. However, one tester of this car in Australia recently (Wheels magazine, Dec 2023?) reported the parking-assistance-cameras are not very reliable (software?). Also there is no HUD still and the current-speed display-font-size is too small and poorly located (font size is a trivial software problem to fix, software again). There are still phantom braking issues reported globally (software!), also the console laptop screen at times simply goes blank for some owners (crashes? software!) and needs reboots or other hack to bring it back to life. Paying for various charging cables and tyre puncture repair kit and sun-roof-shade is really mean at AUD$62,000 price. And the 4-year 80,000km bumper-to-bumper warranty is well below most or all major car manufacturers. I was going to buy this car in 2024 but now I will wait longer for further improvements and more software fixes. I do realise many Model 3/Y owners have no issues but there are plenty of owners who do have issues. Tesla Model 3/Y has definitely improved in 2024 but there is still some way to go. If Tesla thinks their car is very reliable and long lasting they need to at least upgrade their new-car warranty from the current mediocre level to be better than most others. Also, there have been numerous reports that (Australian?) car insurance premiums go up rapidly after the initial 1st year insurance is expired. The car insurers must know these BEV cars are often not repairable after many crashes as compared to ICE cars. You can Google for details.

The 2024 version is a major improvement on the previous versions. It looks nicer, is quieter & handles better, which would be a concern for owners of older model owners as the resale price will take a hit. You mentioned that charging at home will save a lot of money over time, but tariffs will surely rise as more people use off-peak charging. Barring that, you're up for a "house", solar panels, battery energy storage, a wall charger & home insurance that will allow indoor charging.

I have the last version of the Model 3, a Long Range Shanghai built version with excellent build quality, I live regionally so the range is a positive. Mine’s a late August 2023 build with stalks. I do like the stalks so I bought when I did rather than waiting for this new version. No back seat passengers at my house, I’m an older driver who researched considerably before buying my Tesla. Tesla provides a mature, beautifully calibrated EV platform and the Model 3 suited what I wanted. This new version looks fabulous, but I do wonder if they’ll ever return to stalks. Regenerative braking in Tesla’s is the best of any EV and I love it. I drive up to Canberra regularly, which is roundabout central, so the stalks give me confidence. Just giving you my two cents as an owner if you care, the glovebox thing is kinda annoying but I rarely use it and when I do I just voice activate it and it never fails. And I never use it when I’m driving anyways so using the touchscreen isn’t that bad. All the pros in this car would easily outweigh the negatives. Although the lack of stalks in this one is quite annoying tbh.

How on earth did vehicle pass ADR's with no indicator stalks? that is just silly that you have to press left handed capacity touch pads to indicate, the drive /reverse selector also, grrrr WHY, again stupid. as for the way it drives, the last Tesla I was in it was so rough and choppy I said to myself never ever again, that said electric drive is great and regen works well, that said for safety I would prefer dual motor (re: AWD) to get all that torque to the ground, the RWD version sounds like its going toe a PITA to drive in wet conditions with all the nannies going crazy to keep the vehicle from over-steering and its not like you can drive an electric drive vehicle on throttle. as for the rest of the tech, meh, simplified in their view but for the rest of us to complicated.

Looks like ive been partially banned from writing KZbin comments. I wrote this. If I try to paste it in to comments, it disappears. If you are going to be an fool and charge your EV inside your garage, and even worse if inside your garage is actually inside your house, then be less of a fool and install a smoke alarm over your car that is interconnected to the other smoke alarms in your house. That way, when the battery goes into thermal runaway whilst charging - and don't delude yourself that "that will never happen to me" - at least you will be woken up so you dont burn to death in your sleep. And despite Musk's LIES, it happens to LFP batteries, too. If you have that smoke alarm at least you'll probably have 15 minutes to get your children out of the house and to safety UPWIND before your house burns to the ground.

These videos don't spend enough time on the software. Tesla's software is the best. Tesla integrate charging stations automatically. No other EV does this. But, not having those music apps transfer from phone to your Tesla is sad. Small price to pay. As for the driver assistance software, it continuously improves with updates. Other companies are not even close to Tesla in this department.
@therightcar
@therightcar Жыл бұрын
I’m not a tech reviewer, I am a car reviewer. I understand those aren’t mutually exclusive - but also you already knew that about the software, so why would it matter if I covered it or not? Other EVs have OTA connected live-updating maps with EV charge station data and locations.
@Retired.at.40.Bored.at.50
@Retired.at.40.Bored.at.50 Жыл бұрын
@@therightcar I can see it was a overview and not a deep dive. Yes, other companies have maps with charging stations. However, Tesla will tell you if the chargers are available and add the stations automatically to your current route and calculated charging times to your total drive. Doesn't matter if you stop to charge up or not. A lot of Tesla's software is designed to make life easier for the driver. You can buy any EV and it gets you work. However, the reason people are choosing EVs over ICE is because of the technology inside. You should consider doing videos on the tech side of cars.

Why Tesla doesn't sell "indicator/wiper/drive select stalk modules" and/or "driver display modules" which could be easily fitted at service centres, makes absolutely zero sense. Maybe Elon Musk has adopted the principal "The best customer is no customer", but I for one can't see for the life of me how you'd activate the indicators to exit a small roundabout, quite useful for not running down pedestrians and cyclists thing.
