As fun as it is to hear bobby & jonny's first impressions when they try new vehicles, I loved this format even more - fascinating to hear from somebody who has been actually using it for a few weeks and knows what it's really like. More of this please! Great work!

@@Simsydav It's more relevant than the general FUD coming the other way. I’ve owned 67 cars in my 74 year life, from smart 4/2 to chevys, Oldsmobiles, Cadillacs and Chrysler and Fords, a Model S (still have), Nissan (and Datsun), BMW, Hondas and Toyotas. The Model 3 is by far the best of them all, and I have truly loved a few of the earlier cars, but none like the “3”!

I have not owned nearly as many cars, but I hired a Model S whilst on holiday in the UK. It was on another level from any other car I have ever driven, for people who love driving it is a joy because you are never fighting against the drive train, there is no lag due to the instant torque and every move you make feels so much more precise. I was driving around pokey medieval cities and narrow country lanes, what would be a nightmare in any other car the size of the Model S. But the amazing sensors in the car made it easy to navigate very tight spaces. My only criticism was a personal preference for a slightly smaller car and the price. I can’t wait for the Model 3 to be available in Australia now. The Supercharger network we already have in Australia means I can easily do a 2000km road trip to visit my parents interstate, no other EV can do that. The legacy automakers are so far behind, they deserve to suffer in the marketplace for the stagnation they have let happen.

The camera person probably doesn't get enough praise because this is filmed so lovely, it reminds me of Top Gear when it was good. I really like the Model 3 and the mostly vegan leather's a nice touch. If I could afford one and they were available in the UK, it would probably be my first EV too. I hear they've really nailed the batteries on these new cars with being alot more environmentally friendly and all, someone tell me if that's true and how so please. And that huge see through roof is so gorgeous, I can imagine watching the stars up near a mountain top where there's no light pollution, just lying down in the car chilling 🌠 The only thing I'd want different is having the car a light tropical sapphire blue and instead of having Tyne Speedo on the centre console, I'd like a sort of HUD pin the windscreen like some cars have like the Corvette ZR1. Great stuff 👍
@LoanwordEggcorn
@LoanwordEggcorn 6 жыл бұрын
Tesla greatly reduced the proportion of Cobalt in their batteries, which is good since it's scarce and difficult to source. New colors will eventually come to Model 3. HUD is not needed for self driving cars. Speedometer is highly visible.
@grendal9800
@grendal9800 6 жыл бұрын
You can add a HUD if you get one and decide you need it. I have a Model 3 and it isn't needed. However, I've already bought a few extras that aren't needed but I wanted them. :-) The fact on the environmental aspect of the batteries and the car is realistically about the same as any other car of a similar size and weight. It's just that no one questions where the steel or aluminum for an internal combustion engines comes from. The one exception might be cobalt but Tesla goes out of their way to get cobalt from environmentally friendly sources. The company just dropped a vendor that couldn't guarantee their sources. More mines are coming on line daily as the demand for these resources are skyrocketing. Any more modern mine will be significantly more environmentally friendly compared to an older mine by using more modern mining techniques.

Google, what’s in a tesla battery. I think is what I googled, and you’ll find some articles that show what the original S batteries were made with, vs new S/X batteries vs the model 3’s batteries. If I recall correctly the new S/X batteries are half the cobalt (which is already a small amount of each battery) used per vehicle, and the model 3’s half the amount of the newest S/X batteries. It’s down to like 3kg per vehicle for the 3’s I think. And Tesla has said they are continuing to reduce even that amount with future revisions. The rest is mostly nickel, aluminum and the lithium.

just a note, the steering wheel is the only non-vegan part on the car and it can be (through a special request with a sales agent) be hand wrapped in the vegan leather. I think once the currently supply of steering wheel leather is used up all steering wheels going forward will be fully vegan, making the whole of the car free from animal products.

What a perfectly gorgeous video. I love the car, the owners, the scenery, the quiet, the dash, the room in the back, the glass roof, the adjustability. I can't wait to see one of these in person. No stinky benzene laden car exhaust. I would make a business just selling a new type of garage for this vehicle. It would have a glass roof with solar panels on it and a charging station inside. I imagine parking lots all having solar charging pavement soon. I wonder if an option could be an electric scooter that is built into the trunk and charges along with the car. I hope Tesla will design a very small camper for short trips soon. So jealous. I hope I can buy a used one soon.

Non-Tesla EV drivers are living the nightmare right now. They can't use Tesla chargers and few are building decent fast chargers or even L2 chargers for them even though there is a standard. It's all a consequence that no-one, not even Tesla, is actually making money manufacturing EVs and until they do, there is little incentive to build up infrastructure. Manufacturers have stockholders to keep happy and throwing money heavily into nonprofitable operations is a great way to get removed in company leadership.

Some thoughts about driving the Tesla Model 3 for the first time in the first week Initially we purchased the Tesla Model 3 car thinking that this was part of the future and it was to cut our carbon footprint and to save money in a daily commute that was costing $1,900 a year in gas (premium grade ~ 563 gal./yr.) ... but then you find when sitting in the car, that the performance is out of this world - the acceleration, the steering, the breaking are so responsive - like what you expect from a German performance car like a BMW. Then, after cruising down the highway and experimenting with the auto pilot, you find that you’re thinking about how much of a sea change in safety this is, even just the following distance system, which granted is available on other less expensive cars, but the full auto-pilot - wow! Then it hits you that all the other cars around you are burning gasoline - gasoline that came out of the earth and is being put into the sky and you realize that you're electric - part of which at least is coming from the sun either directly through photovoltaic or indirectly through wind. And that brings you back to the whole carbon footprint thing you started with.... Adding up all of the reasons above, you start to wonder why more people have not gotten onto the electric bandwagon - for most of the performance and convenience, in the form of plugging in at home, means never having to go to a gas station is reason enough - our reasons enough. The brilliance of Tesla is arguably the fact that they made a car electric for all the great reasons electric cars out perform gasoline cars driving - acceleration - low maintenance - low operating cost - ease of use - and in the process the elegance of the solution is that it also helps save the environment for human existence.

The green side of EVs is debatable if you're in an area that produces most of their electricity using coal power plants then you aren't much greener then a ICE that gets 37mpg, I live in Washington, arguably one of the best places for ev since most of our electricity is renewable and electricity is 8 cents a kWh where I live with gas being $3.40 only problem is that I dont have the money for even a stock model 3, hopefully Tesla brings it down to a price where most people can afford one and put the nail in the coffin for ICE.

Nice episode. I could hear the excitement in all of those owner's voices when they talk about where they came from in terms of previous vehicle types and how they enjoy and are excited over the whole package. Here in Barbados there are lots of Leafs. DHL has purchased a number of the EV vans for their deliveries. Saves them lots in fuel and maintenance.

The US postal service should be using such equipment. :-) Even LEAFs would be useful in that context. I can visit my mailbox with my LEAF just as easily as the mailman (actually a very pleasent woman) does every day.
@bburton333
@bburton333 6 жыл бұрын
Actually, the US Postal service should contract out to have a retrofit kit created to enable converting their small delivery trucks to EV. Many of those trucks are probably only driven less than 10 miles a day (exception being rural communities) so in those cases, a 10 kWh battery could be enough to drive 30 miles or three days of deliveries. Charging could be done every other day even off of 120 volts 12 or 16 amps overnight. For rural deliveries, something like a Leaf could work. In some localities, mail carriers can select their own vehicle. This mail carrier uses a Model S kzbin.info/www/bejne/bKSUZaFvhb2NrpY.

Starts at $35,000 USD (base model should be out early 2020), but right now the lowest cost model includes $5,000 premium upgrades and $9,000 larger battery, so it's $49,000 at the moment. Can go up to over $80,000 if you add dual motors performance with autopilot and future full self driving packages. See www.tesla.com/model3 for details

EGolf is a genuinely good car. Had one for 4 months on an experiment. So refined and such a nice thing to drive (the VW Golf MK7 is a very accomplished and we'll engineered car). My only complaint was that it did seem to devour it's battery if you took it on the motorway. But maybe that is more a function of EVs. When I took it cross country to work instead it fared much better.

Regarding the sound system I remember reading that Tesla use a team of engineers from Harmann to design the system in house, so I guess it's Tesla / Harmann own brand sound system. I think it's necessary that it is done in house for each car design because the acoustics of each cabin is different, the EQ and delays to the speakers will be set up to cancel road noise etc.

Not that it's necessary but the basic model right now + AWD will smoke many cars in it's price range in a 0-60 test. The ability to plug in for extremely cheap at home over night is a plus, super chargers are always a good stop and cost even less than charging at home on top of the fact it's over 10x faster. I can't wait to see how it performs in the snow and on road trips! Hat's off to Tesla for 10 years of perfecting their formula for this car!
