The #Tesla Model 3 has marked a significant milestone in the history of electric vehicles and with the new #Highland its back at the top of the game.
Compare scoring with other EVs:
www.todoselectricos.com/elect...
Since its launch in 2016, this model has symbolized the automotive market's transition to a more sustainable and technologically advanced era. Designed as a more accessible electric vehicle compared to previous Tesla models, the Model 3 has played a crucial role in democratizing access to electric mobility. Its innovative design, impressive range, and cutting-edge technologies like the Autopilot system have made the Model 3 not just a symbol of modernity, but also a change agent in the automotive industry.
00:00 Tesla Model 3 Highland Details:
The Tesla Model 3 Highland is a restyled version of the popular electric vehicle. With rear-wheel drive and a motor that develops 208 kW (equivalent to 283 horsepower), this model offers a dynamic driving experience. The 60 kWh gross (57.5 kWh net) battery ensures a WLTP range of 513 km, although this figure can vary depending on the wheels (19 or 18 inches) and driving conditions. The vehicle weighs 1840 kg and measures 1.72 m in length, 1.85 m in width, and 1.44 m in height, providing a balance between size and agility.
02:17 Exterior and Design:
The exterior design of the Model 3 Highland has received updates that make it more modern and appealing. The front of the vehicle has lost its characteristic "duck look" for a more angular and aggressive approach, akin to a lizard. At the back, the lights are integrated into the tailgate, complementing the car's modern and distinctive design.
06:19 Range and Efficiency:
The Tesla Model 3 Highland stands out for its energy efficiency. With a fully charged battery, it can travel approximately 347 km, suitable for long trips and daily use. Its energy consumption is notably low, with only 16.3 kW per 100 km.
10:11 Charging Experience:
Charging the Model 3 Highland is fast and efficient, regaining 200 km of range in just 17 minutes and 20 seconds. The car is equipped to facilitate route planning, including access to Tesla's supercharger network, adding convenience for users.
12:20 Performance and Handling:
The Model 3 Highland accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.3 seconds, reflecting solid, though not exceptional performance in its category. The vehicle's suspension is slightly firmer than in previous versions, contributing to a sporty feel. Additionally, the single-pedal driving system and the ability to stop completely when releasing the accelerator provide a comfortable and modern driving experience.
16:41 Interior and Quality:
The interior of the Tesla Model 3 Highland is minimalist, dominated by a central screen controlling most functions. Materials have notably improved in this version, offering a quieter and more sophisticated ambiance. Ventilated seats and LED lighting add a touch of comfort and quality to the interior design. Despite its minimalist focus, the vehicle offers ample and comfortable interior space, including a sizable trunk.
24:39 Technology:
Despite strengths like mobile integration and an intuitive interface, the Model 3 Highland has notable technological omissions, such as the lack of Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a secondary screen or heads-up display. However, its software system and online connectivity are among the most advanced in the electric vehicle market.
30:18 Driving Assistants:
Tesla's Autopilot system and the full self-driving option are known for their reliability and effective communication with the driver. Although promising a semi-autonomous driving experience, there are currently technical and legislative limitations restricting their full use. The absence of radar and parking sensors in recent models is a notable drawback.
36:53 Price:
The Tesla Model 3 Highland is competitively priced below 40,000 euros, offering excellent value for money compared to its competitors. With its combination of features, technology, and efficiency, the vehicle is an attractive option for both the electric car market and the general compact vehicle segment.
37:48 Final Score:
After evaluating all categories and applying the ElectroExam scoring system, the Tesla Model 3 rear-wheel drive Highland scores 73 out of 100. This result reflects a balanced combination of performance, efficiency, technology, and price, making the Model 3 Highland a compelling choice in the electric vehicle market.

Although autopilot sometimes phantom brakes, I disagree in your situation. The truck clearly crossed into your lane for a few seconds...
@TotallyElectric

I get your point but other systems (and a human driver) would have recognized that it was just taking the curve but still staying in it's own lane. Braking in this situation was not really warranted.
@niklaseklund88

That was not phantom breaking! That truck was going way to close. You'd complain if it didn't break next time the truck actually crossed further. The car calculates. Doesn't do "yeah well seems fine, hopefully the truck won't go further" absolutely stupid pointing that out as phantom breaking.

Was the correct move the truck could have easily veered into the left lane potentially resulting in a collision. A human driver should have reacted in the same way.

I agree that the car does occasionally phantom brake, but in the instance at 32:20, I think that was a proper response to the situation at hand. The truck clearly went over into your lane, and it is both visible on the screen and on camera. Other than that, it was a great review of the vehicle and thorough. I'd like you to go into more depth as far as ride quality and comfort are concerned, I did not really understand what you meant on that matter. Is the car more comfortable than the previous Model 3? And how does it compare to a Tesla Model Y? Thank you for any input you can provide in regard to this.

No indicator stalks, your adjustment on the score makes total sense, it works really well in normal day to day but when you are entering or existing traffic circles it becomes almost hazardous as often you cannot indicate to other drivers your direction as you are unable to easily and rapidly fine the signal buttons.

As a fan of what Tesla are trying to achieve, there are a number of concerns; 1. The absence of stalks is clearly a cost cutting effort. And although unlikely to be an issue in the US as roundabouts are rare, in Europe and the UK they are plentiful and this method of indicating is dangerous. I do think after market stalks will be sold very soon. 2. Charging. The massive variation in kw/h pricing is scandalous. People understand mpg or l/100km but not this. It leaves people open to being ripped off. Government needs to step in and take as much notice as they do with current fuel prices. Charging stations also need to show prices on a large board visible like the petrol prices are. 3. The total absence of buttons unless bought after market is a real danger. Taking eyes off the road to alter aircon and such like is not great. Have you ever tried changing music on carplay whilst driving. ? You soon find yourself wandering between lanes. I would love to see an episode based on the voice control capacity of this vehicle.

I don't think the braking incident was phantom braking on this occasion, the car erred on the side of caution as the lorry entered your lane, which is a correct response in my opinion. Can you not override the braking during the braking event and pass if you think it's safe to do so as you are in ultimate control of the car? Great review by the way.

Last night I posted some remarks about your excellent and very informative review and I also added some links regarding the phantom braking issue. I checked again this afternoon but for some reason couldn’t find them on your YT page. However: I may have breached copyright guidelines and in that case I would totally respect and support removal. I also hereby offer my apologies. So again, I really liked most of your comments regarding the Tesla M3 Highland, but I do disagree with your take on the PB event while driving, and I also disagree that it would be a problem specific to Tesla. It’s far more nuanced than that. I have also had the opportunity to drive the TM3 HL on several occasions and the absence of stalks did not border me at all. I’m from Holland and I put the new M3 to the test in the suburban area right next to the Tesla dealership in Rotterdam, which happens to be invested with roundabouts. I do not consider myself as someone possessing extraordinary driving skills or talent but it didn’t take me more than 3 consecutive roundabouts to get it. Also, Autopilot use is not mandatory in any Tesla and there furthermore seems to be a growing awareness as to what causes real occurrences of PB. I would suggest to you and my fellow followers to just check out what is being written on sites like quora, reddit, tesla motors club and automotive-fleet to name a few, for a more balanced perspective on PB.

Good review, to me Tesla is the best car i've ever driven. I agree with you about stalk removal, that was a bad idea. I disagree about the phantom breaking though - that huge truck was clearly in your lane. Yes, the Tesla could have squeezed through, but it was a safety thing and slowed because it saw danger in your lane. Real phantom breaking is when it slows for no reason, which it hasn't happened for me in 2 years of owning my Model Y, but for others it does happen. I'm hoping the new version of FSD V12 will be an improvement.

What is the tech that you get that competition doesn’t have? I know it’s missing things like: 1. HUD 2. AR 3. 360 camera 4. Parking sensors 5. Parking assist 6. Android auto/Apple carplay 7. Smart lights ..and probably many more. The biggest issue I have with all Teslas is the driving assistance. It turns off as soon as you slightly turn the wheel to e.g. avoid anything on the road or stay further away from a truck and it forces the wipers on which just work randomly.
@TotallyElectric
@TotallyElectric 5 ай бұрын
The tech that no other company has is the ecosystem. Just like any one part of an Apple phone is inferior to competition from many Android devices, the complete ecosystem gives you a user experience beyond what others offer. No other car has the same level of integration between connectivity, charging, payment, service and battery management. The Autopilot is easy to use and does not turn off once you get used to it. Other systems are often far worse in communicating with the driver when they are off and when they are on. Some (like Hyundai or Kia) just turn themselves off when a curve is too sharp and only changes a colour of an icon on the HUD.
@johnmoe883

Fair enough, that's one way to look at tech. But I have to say that when renting a Model Y on holiday, I was missing so much tech which my BMW iX has that it really didn't feel like a choice for people who enjoy new tech. Even basic things were missing like continuing my playlist or navigation from my phone. I don't want to start searching for a restaurant from the car navigation. I want check the reviews on my phone, select the one I want, press navigate and then get into my car and start driving. I feel Tesla was disconnected from the ecosystem of my other devices with google, spotify etc. Then there's the lack of basic things like no parking sensors and lights from 1998. The drive assist was definitely inferior to BMW's. Beyond tech there's, obviously a 30 year gap in comfort, quality and luxury.

I and my wife have been on the fence about changing to the new Model 3. Yet, Tesla sort of lets us down a bit. Here is why. Same batteries for the trims, same power output, same drive units, same motors, still without power front trunk lid (when it rains, you close the front trunk lid, your hands gets dirty and wet. When it is hot, it burns the skin of your fingers.) No stalks on either side of steering wheel; when adjusting wiper speed and side mirrors, have to fumble via different menu on the center screen while taking eyes off the road ahead doing that. The future is interesting per Tesla design, or lack of design to save costs. The interior still looks pretty much the same. No radar, no distance sensors, still performing worse in many youtube videos compared to older Model 3 with sensors on bumpers. No cross-traffic alert when you back up from parking spaces. The range for the longest range is down from 353 miles in 2023 to just 341 in 2024.

@TotallyElectric

I have driven literally hundreds of different vehicles and the Tesla autopilot is good but not necessarily the best. For example, Mercedes and BMW will adapt the speed before reaching the speed sign, which avoids many fines. They will also read digital signs. Ford and Mercedes both have hands-free systems here in Europe, Tesla does not. When evaluating a system, I base my valuation on the user experience, not on what the tech behind it is. The new park assist visualizations from Tesla, are just visualizations, but they don’t actually park the car for you, which other systems do. I do appreciate what Tessa ultimately trying to achieve, but while they get there the system you’re buying today I believe I have judged fairly. Please also remember what the auto pilot can do in the US and what it can do in Europe is vastly different.

Also the several annoying changes you noted regarding speed control and autopilot are good reasons not to consider this version of the car. I truly believe Tesla will stop the Model 3 development and focus purely on the Model Y along with bringing the "cheap" Model 2 which will be launched in 2025. Sedans don't sell. Tesla autopilot is like a new driver who is worried about safety events. 😅 Not a professional driver 😊

Phantom braking ...I agree a judgment call and the car was right and you are wrong, imho😊 ..the evidence is in your video, the car carrier started to drift into your lane, and then crossed the line, what do you expect a robot to do ? .. I don't believe Tesla have a crystal ball fitted yet 😅 . Imagine if it hadn't have braked it will be all over social media how dangerous Teslas are.. And now I'm not a Tesla fan or even EV driver, I realise phantom braking is a thing.. maybe you should have provided a better example of true phantom braking to avoide these negative comments...ooops.😊 And the cyclist... this is autopilot not FSD .. its still the humans responsibility to avoid objects.. please tell me what car would have stopped behind or past with the correct distance 🤔 ...but yeah agree I believe auto pilot has got worse before it gets better 😞.. I've read all parking assists, reliable object distance measuring & summon will come back with the AI version. Otherwise thanks for your excellent video. And you may want to watch the Dirty Tesla channel a vid about summon park assist etc.. or HIgh Fidelity Park Assist.. as he suggest this looks like the first sniff of the FSD V12 AI ... Fascinating recreating the world with AI software. The reason I say watch this... It looks like maybe how park assist etc.. will be reintroduced back using just cameras only... tap on the screen a parking space, and it parks there .. apparently? As you say fsd is useless except in US for the moment, I believe AI training will start with version 12 even across Europe assuming the legislation can be met.. fingers crossed 🤞 However so that you may learn actually how good V11 To learn about FSD and where it actually is, again I suggest you watch Dirty Tesla channel ... This dude often drives FSD 10 miles or more without any, or very few interventions through highly complex town driving.. it's bloody amazing what it does... I don't know of any other system that even comes close .. maybe the closest will be a Chinese system like from Xpeng for example... That's if they stay in business 😮. I wish I lived in Spain ..the weather here in the UK sucks this time of the year

I take your comment on the phantom braking, i could have found a better example. I know for a fact Tesls is working on reintroducing autopark with these visualizations, however, it could be weeks, months or years - who knows?

All I hear is this guy bitching over the lack of stalks and now autopilot doesn’t work, etc. Leave your complaining out of the reviews or just don’t do them. It adds nothing to the review other than unwanted banter.

@@TotallyElectric You don’t get it. People want a review not to hear you complain because you don’t like that Tesla removed the stalks out of the car. TBH, you sounded like a spoiled brat. Totally unprofessional. I’m glad I saw it so I won’t waste any of my time on your future content. Good luck.
