I just heard about adding a propane injector to turbo diesels to burn 100% of diesel in turbo diesel engines, and it makes the engine last longer and run more cost effectively with fuel since it burns all of it, and it burns a lot of those polluting diesel fumes. In terms of cost, it's fairly inexpensive, and it pencils out slightly to positive net savings long run, so it seems like an option. About the hardest part is finding a spot to stuff the tank under the truck, and the refilling, but that seems like just part of the game.

Maybe you need to drive it in the summer also, because I don't think you can compare it, with the old tesla's directly, because as you said, it is better insulated, so if you took the same run, with the old one, it might be even slower because it will need to use more energy to heat up the cabin, and I think it the updated version will be faster in the summer, than the old one, maybe not by much, but it will be funny to see how big the difference will be🙂👍🏻

It looks like the Tritium chargers have liquid-cooled cables, so the cooling system in the charger could freeze, resulting in some non-cooled mode. Cable and electronics will thaw the coolant but the coolant system may have some other parts that remain frozen.
@bradallen1832

With a catalyst car, 80-95% is cleaned. The steam that comes out is mostly water and carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide is bad for the climate, but nobody dies from breathing it. You can easily see that the old Golf is not as steamy as the newer cars, although it is more polluting. Catalytic converter cars came in 1987 and really changed the air quality combined with none leaded fuel.

You should not be able to smell anything in that car if you have the AC set to fresh air as it has a HEPA filter. My 23 model Y has the same HEPA filter and can't sell anything bad when driving behind a semi blowing heaps of black smoke.
@adrianguggisberg3656
@adrianguggisberg3656 Жыл бұрын
yeah, what you see is water condensation, at least most of it most of the time. What you smell, of course, is uncombusted HC's, which people and animals don't emit. Also as combustion engines get older, they start burning oil, injectors start leaking, and a thousand other things happen that cause incomplète combustion and excessive emissions. Also as of today, λ-control and most other emission control systems are not active in these conditions, and in fact most conditions that are not partial load with the engine warm, intake- refrigerant- and oil température and other parameters at ideal levels. In other words, combustion engines emit much, much higher levels of poisonous gases and particles than you are lead to believe, allthough things have improved by leaps and bounds in the 80's and 90's and again in the 2000's.

Because Tesla uses titanium battery guards underneath that is why you didn't suffer any battery intrusion @ 4:47. If you were in an Ionic 6 and this happened the damaged caused would most likely have totaled your vehicle like in the two cases in Canada where Hyundai quoted the owners $55,000 dollars for a new battery and the insurance companies totaled the cars.
@bradallen1832
@bradallen1832 Жыл бұрын
Yes, Tesla learned this the hard way in California when a driver hit road debri while driving over one of the SF Bay Area bridges. That titanium protection is one of those touches that makes a difference, and ends up being worth it in the long run. I question if they are still installing titanium on all cars now like they used to once they introduced that.

The operating temperature of IONITY is from -35°C, so at -27° it should work fine. So more likely there was some fault in the power transformer or there was not enough power in grid at that moment and the charging stations had to reduce power.

EDIT: 3:05 it does detect as a lane change,but the autopilot disengages as soon as you turn the steering wheel without the indicator (the BMW way 🤣 ), so there is nothing to re-engage. Because the driver took over control,just think what would happen,if it re-engages as you are trying to manouver to avoid something..😉

Tesla's UI is so great, there exists a 3rd party market to add basic functionality. That wasn't always the case. Tesla used to make great cars. I still fondly remember my Model S of 10 years ago. At the time I felt it was by far the best car I ever owned, despite a few teething problems (that were mostly ironed out under warranty). Even today it compares favourably to many newly released EVs, including this Model 3 face lift. However, todays Model S is no longer an option for me, because I can get the same functionality and everyday practicality from a Korean EV at half the price. Yeah, they cannot quite compte with a Tesla M3/Y in a 1000km challenge, but they are far superior in almost all everyday scenarios in a typical Eurpean use case. In fact, even somewhat flawed EVs such as the ID3 fit this bill better.

Awesome video! I've been wanting to know the cold weather capability of these cars with the current collection of incremental upgrades. Good stuff! Also great news about better sound dampening and comfort. By the way, I know you discuss this sort of thing, but if so, where do you have a video of charging in a garage in winter? Over here in USA the fictionnews is having a field day with all the people who can't go anywhere in their EV's in winter. I'm not looking for someone to take them on, but just give a few bits of info for those of us who want to know. I've driven in the snow, but always seem to return a few days later to the moderate weather, so don't really get the true cold winter experience, and get bemused by the early adopters running into quirks in winter but feel bad for them and it seems like I ought to be able to at least answer some basics.

And when the car is parked outside you get frost building up inside the car on the glass. Because of so much glass the isolation is crap. Glass is just annoying and without it it could be even more officiant to. Give me a metal roof ffs :D or even better a DAMN solar panel man. (And a freaking headup display for crying out laud). The glass sunroof in the one I drive is of the rollable type, but it's understandable why Tesla Model 3 doesn't have one due to its design... so just get some insulation glass roof panels to deal with extreme temps, not a big issue for me tbh.

I think is that getting to destination faster reduces the amount of cabin heating and the motors produce more heat that can go to cabin.

with modern emissions on board a petrol car doesn't even take 10 seconds to hit light off temperature for the catalytic converter. Let it be 30 seconds in very cold weather otherwise it would be impossible to meet emission regulations. Once the converter is hot the amount of pollutants is so small it's hardly measurable. All the magic meeting the emissions happens during cold start.

And when he also added what he was billed it was about 260wh/km. He and me has been curious about the differences. One person claimed that the pre heating of the battery before SC isnt calculated by the car as consumption to make the car go forward and that explained the difference between 220 and 240 and the charging loss is the last difference. Do you know if this person is correct? Or do you know why he has this difference between values?

Tritium, man. It's a huge shame what happened to that company. We were proud of them in Brisbane just a couple of years ago. They've not just damaged their own reputation but scared away a lot of potential EV owners globally due to all the horror stories of failed chargers. What a mess.

What experience do you have from temperatures close to -30°C? The question is not if the engine starts or not, the question is what breaks in your specific car model. How have you maintained the crank compartment ventilation? If not properly your engine will make an immediate stop, and you will find engine oil all over the engine bay... Then you just need to think of the amount of money in your bank account!

It is incrementally better than prior vehicles in that line in several factors (noise reduction, cabin insulation, good heat flow management, improved mapping and preheating planning already done several years ago and still working well), and the battery is at least competent. I don't doubt your statement at all, but I'm just curious what it's missing in your case.

He has to find a road where it's allowed. It doesn't make much sense, I think the consumption is at least 50 % higher than at 90 km/h. Maybe it's more depending on how "boxy" the shape of the car is. EVs are different from ICE cars, the faster you drive the longer you spend at charging stations when driving long distances, at least with today's EVs.

Don't exaggerate. The average minimum temperature in Brisbane for July is 10.4C. So the minimum temperatures in Brisbane definitely fall below 12C. Can someone explain to me why the energy consumption is so much higher in the cold? I mean it's clear you need to heat the cabin and at first also the battery. But after 1-3 Hours of driving everything is warm and even the battery is at moderate temps. So why is there still more consumption? i can't wrap my head around that.
@WendHome
@WendHome Жыл бұрын
The cabin and the battery have to stay at the right temp and result is a higher consumption even after longer runs. Also the air resistance is quit higher at lower temperatures.
@acousticrecordingservice6991
@acousticrecordingservice6991 Жыл бұрын
It is easier to grasp if you realise summer consumption of a M3 is comparable to 1.5L/100 km. 50% increase means the car needs an extra 0.75 L. Now repeat this with a big sedan that consumes 6-7 L in summer. It will use more extra fuel (at least 1L) in winter, but the percentage is of course lower.
@nicoleibundgut534
@nicoleibundgut534 Жыл бұрын
@@WendHome holding the cabin on temperature needs not more then 2kw which is at most 10% of the total consumption. I guess its just battery heating after all.
