I have driven my Model 3 Performance for 4 years and I added ppf to the bumper, headlights, a pillars, rear rocker and rear trunk entry. I noticed a few small chips on the hood and small ones on the rear quarter. I made sure when my wife picked up her 2023 Model Y Performance to wrap the entire front end and rocker panels. I also polished the car and added ceramic coating over everything.

After owning a M3 for 4 years and a MY for 6 months, I would add mudflaps as an effective method to protect the rocker panels. Not having children at home, my interiors are far less damaged. I use an interior cleaner for the hard plastic surfaces and I’m happy with the results. The front bumper remains an unresolved issue. In 6 months I already have a couple of rock chips…. Is it worth $700 to prevent that? Hmmm…..

Not, repaint would cost $300 after 2-3 years of use

Front and doors are very important so says a good friend who has a full PPF wrap in gloss on his Model Y p. Said that he has the best of for his Y at big box stores with nary a scratch in 2 years...still looking new.

I had my entire front end wrapped including the rockers for $750 at a local shop. They used precut film but it is better than not having any protection. I was going to have the ppf done at another shop that does hand cut film but it was more than double the price.

I paid $1,200 for the full front, installed by a pro, then I installed my own F&R doors for around $300 I believe (e-bay). The doors are mostly straight and installing those is relatively easy. Given how weak the TSLA paint is, this is some of the best money ever spent. I can't count the number of saves from scratches and chips. Not to mention, piece of mind in general, and also when washing.

I'm getting my Tesla model 3 tomorrow, we already ordered it for the sides. I'll definitely get it for the boot as well. (Unfortunately I can't use your referral, as I'm in Europe) thanks for making this video!

The front wrap won't stop ALL damage. I had the front of my car professionally wrapped with XPEL and even with that there are some dings that probably went all the way through the film and got to the paint. I'm not about to take the film off to verify that though.

When you ppf only front, is there any difference between the front and the rest of the car, glossiness and shine,etc

I was hoping this video would be the installation rather than pitching on the sales. After all, I am glad you posted this so I can get some ppf for the interiors and some of the exterior as well.

The real question is, Why invest so much on a car just because of the name? Tesla will become an ordinary vehicles in a few years especially here in CA. I am sure 5-10 years of owning a Tesla there will be other selections.

The biggest mistake Tesla did was making the door kickers soft touch material. What were they thinking?! I have nicks in my drivers door just above the door cupholder, from what bottles. And they don't make a product to cover it up (in that area) and replacing the whole inner door panel is expensive and time consuming to do.

Ok so my M3 2019 needs new tires. I hear that because the extreme acceleration of EV's and ReGen Braking (one pedal driving) that the car will use up tires a lot quicker than gas cars. Do you find that is true. About to replace my OEM tires which only got 24,0005 miles most gas cars get at 40K before replacement. Is that the normal cost of EV ownership? And I hear that Tesla Michelin OEM tires are only designed for 24K miles.

Overall, yes. For a new car I would do full PPF. And actually I just did for our new 2023 MY. On top, for the lower area, I recommend also the mud flaps, for both front and rear.

If someone kicks my door, I'm kicking their ass. Growing up around nice things, I learned how to take care of everything. Children being the obvious exception, I would say the essential areas are the rear rocker panel, and the front bumper. I'm gonna get strips of PPF and have it look haggard, but i'll spend 100$ and a few hours of my time ensuring no chips on the bumper, the hood looks rather easy to do, its just the bumper that worries me.

Mike, I live here in Redding like you. I'll be picking up my 2023 MYLR in Rocklin on Friday. Any suggestions on how to get the car back home without getting road damage? Is there a product that can give temporary protection until the PPG kit arrives?
@mocheen4837
@mocheen4837 9 ай бұрын
I used the clear adhesive roll of carpet protector that they sell at home depot. They also sell rolls of temporary ppf that you can just stick to the bumper. It looks ugly but it is good enough to get home. I had the entire front end of my Y wrapped along with the rocker panels.
