On the electricity price, down under we are paying around $0.30 kWh but of course our fuel (gas) is also much higher $2.20L for diesel and petrol so all relative. Agree though Tesla including fuel savings is dodgy! 👍😊

I think Rivian isn't offering the quad motors with the Max pack because the high-capacity battery chemistry won't support the current demands of the quad motors. When you switch to a high capacity chemistry, the trade off is less max amperage capability. You see this in 18650s, the highest capacity 3500 mAh cells can only do 10A while the highest power 35A cells are only 2800 mAh.

Disappointing there is no power frunk. They added another motor to the power truck but didn't add one to the front? I'm not a fan of the new front it looks cheaper and not in proportion to the rest of the car. I think they were going for the baby Ferrari with the smooth radius but I still like the old one better. I like stalks so that's not good. The rest is nice, I like other changes and the back looks very nice.

Maximum safe charge rate is (more or less) linearly proportional to battery capacity unless the smaller pack has some radically different battery chemistry. I would not expect a 40 kWh pack to be able to accept as high a charge rate as an 80 kWh pack. It's pretty obvious if you think of cutting the 80 kWh pack into two parts and charging each at half the rate.

I hate the horn button on my model S yoke. The loss of directional signal stalk increases reaction time. I would pay extra for a center mounted horn button, signaling stalk, and round wheel.

Recently updated to FSD 11.4.7. Much better than before. And although it still have more work, if you just sit back and think about what the car is doing, it’s actually amazing. The car can completely drive anywhere. No other car does that.

The new photons to controls approach for fsd means they need new hw4 cars with fsd driving around gathering data, which is why we could see it getting cheaper in the near term.

Changes probably aren’t worth waiting for considering the current M3 discounts, the highland is more expensive, and the M3 federal tax credit will be halved or completely go away Jan 1st and likely before you can take delivery of the new version. That’s potentially $6-$10k more expensive than what you can get a M3 today. If you can get one before Dec 31st it may be worth it depending on how much more expensive it is.

Adoption is way more important than electric cars. In San Diego we are paying .45 so electric cars provide minimal savings.

I had and have 4 electric cars now and the charging position was different in every one of them. Kona front, Skoda Enyaq right rear, Opel Corsa rear left and Renault Megane etech front left. But with my 7 m cable I charge them all. And european charging stations all have longer cables than Tesla and even allow drive trough for cars with trailers and I have even seen a semi charging next to me. But Tesla is the cheapest recently.

What Tom does not seem to understand, is that when Tesla FSD is fully operational, it will not be selling for $12K or $15K, it will be selling for between $50K to $100K. So you can pay $12K now and wait for it to get to 100% or wait and pay $50K to $100K. Your choice.

Fog lights are useful when you live somewhere that gets foggy weather, my current car lacks front fog lights (has rear fog lights lol) and it impacts fog visibility pretty significantly.
