New Model Y owner here, wife and I need BIO breaks well before the battery needs a charge. So essentially every time we see a SuperCharger along our route one of us has to stop, so a 10 to 15-minute BIO break/charging sessions eliminate ANY range anxiety issues and we are more comfortable on our long road trips and if we don't need to stop we skip that stop and press on to the next SuperCharger.

@@DeeKay1911 How far is it roughly between chargers that you stop, as I live in Melbourne and find that Ballarat is pass limit of a return drive, also Torquay on the coast is past return trip to home. I live in Sunbury area so north west area of Melbourne. Find that my average range is around 270klm before needing to charge, way lower then the listed range of 440klm. Was thinking it woudl have been around 340klm+ range. was wanting to drive to Adelaide but can see issues with the range.

That's the thing, this test ended like running an ICE car down until the low fuel light comes on, then giving up. We all know there is some buffer there, would have been nice to know what that buffer is. From your experience, what distance would that extra 3% below 0 equate to?

Tesla is coming to India this year and I'm excited. Given that the cars would cost more than double due to the taxes and the lack of any supercharger in the country (we do have a few 50Kw chargers), do you think it makes sense to buy one here?

I was reading that a company in England sell a portable battery charger that can be carried in the boot of a vehicle which can put 60 kilometers of charge back into a vehicle, so one of these devices would be handy to carry around in an electric vehicle. Extra piece of mind. Its good to drive a cleaner vehicle but i mainly would want a good vehicle that is cheap to drive. Tesla seems to be a good vehicle for this.

G'day, I've had a Model 3 since about the time this video was produced. I do not miss having a HUD because I have the car in cruise control most of the time and the on-board maps are pretty good at knowing what the speed limits are. I'll occasionally glance at the speedo to make sure the car's doing the right thing, and I've yet to see a satnav system which gets the number of lanes right in the situations I need them to, so I have not found the HUD-based directions any more useful than the voice directions of the Tesla navigation (and when you find a satnav that can correctly describe exits as exits and not "keep left", and diverging lanes as "keep left" rather than "take the exit" please let me know).

Range is not an issue in a Tesla. It’s like the only thing die hard ICE owners hang onto. Essentially you have to drive for 5 hours at 60 mph to get to its limit. If you don’t stop for 5 hours you seriously need to drink more water and move your body. With superchargers especially V3 it takes about 40 mins now from 10% to 80% battery. Which with toilet breaks etc is no time at all - and it is so cheap!

Great review and I agree with nearly everything… except the Tesla claim 667km range. It’s the government ADR test that claims 667km. Tesla on their website only claim 567km (WLTP) and even this is a Standards-derived figure. Real world tests like yours gives a much better idea of what to expect, plus the car will estimate a far more realistic figure. 460km is a long way and with a 0-50% charge in 20min or so while having a visit and starting to drink that coffee, electric transport is truly here. Please keep these high-standard, real reviews going,

Obviously Autopilot failed to work as well Some simple things such as Cruise control fails to work, it's just ridiculous on the quality of this car , it is very low quality. It won't even alert me if a car is too close to the car on another lane .... it's insane! Also, took the car to service in the morning till 5pm , I still haven't got it back, I never expect this to happen when I buy a brand new car, it's the worst experience ever in my life! Nightmare!! I would give it 0 star and minus!!! So many things just fails on a "Brand new car" After my serious complaints and hounding on the phones, ....finally the service manager there named Nick has managed to turn the table around and I was satisfied at the end. I appreciate his actions on top of it, the attitude and the way he made me satisfy and understood my initial frustration of this car failing. Tesla should thank Nick for this or other wise I wouldnt want a Tesla anymore. Since Nick has turned it around, I have more confidence with it now. 19th May 2022 review: Well I was going to give it a 1 star but since I got my car back now on the Second fault which I loose full power steering, and also I'm very not happy WITH Karl the service manager not compensating me which I told him I had to spend $30 out of pocket on Ubers , he promised to call me back with something but he never calls back, no call backs with updates when I requested, rude !!! During the service , there was heaps lack of communications , not direct call to the service centre and your customer team knows nothing no updates on my car until the last minute , the fault of the car was not descriptive, Karl told me something hit the car to cause this but how fragile is that ??? My old car never have this problem besides I just need regular service , this will be on your google review , youtube review and fair trading as well!! But overall, I don't think Tesla gives a shit of what it's customer feedbacks are - will be my first and last car for sure

I find it strange that anyone thinks range with the current Teslas would be an issue. 450 real world km on a charge? How many people want to drive that far at a stretch, with any degree of regularity anyway? And if you can charge at home, it's better than an ICE car, inasmuch as if you can get enough charge overnight for your needs, you don't even need to go to recharging stations. Plus the fact that the fuel cost is a fraction of that of petrol.
@--Nath--
@--Nath-- 3 жыл бұрын
Agree. Driving 6 hours worth in a day? 3 hours is bad enough.. and this easily covers that. A stop at pretty much anywhere in there (1.5 or 2 hours in) and fast charging would mean it is a complete non issue. This was like knowing your petrol car has a tank that gets you 400km and then planning a 200km round trip but planning on doing a bunch of it twice over to film. If you were going to do that at least take another car to avoid screwing up the distance the test was supposed to be about.

Given that you're supposed to only charge between 20% - 60%, I'd have to basically go to a supercharger everyday or every other day just to make my commute. Oz totally missed the point. Please do some research to provide useful information before wasting time on a video which doesn’t show much. First 657 km range is an NEDC number that is totally useless. EPA range is 568 km which is actually achievable. 1. Fully charged my M3 shows 540km range. They don’t even pretend you’ll get 657 km . Then that 540 Km translates into about 480 km range if you drive carefully. 2. 131 Wh/km yields 564 km range if you count 72 kWh of battery actually available in the 82 kWh battery. even if you use 100% and destroy your battery you’ll only get 616 km range so this sticker is not even consistent with itself. 3. You can reasonably get down to 0,150 km/Wh which will give you 493 km which is all you can hope for. 4. Tesla’s computer knows exactly how much power you’ll use on your trip which is why they can estimate % battery within 1%. They KNOW you’ll never get 657 km unless according to NEDC you drive at 37 k/h on a flat smooth surface, no wind, everything turned off, no acceleration and no braking. 5. 657 KM range is a disgusting lie and Tesla knows it. They vastly undermine their credibility by using this number in Australia and NZ. 6. Owners should start a class action because of deceptive trade practices. Even more annoying than being flat out deceived, Tesla charges NZ$92,900 for a Long range vs Cdn$64,990 = NZ$73,523 + $2000 shipping meaning we are paying $18,000 extra. What are we getting extra for this $18,000 or is that why Tesla feels obliged to lie to us about range. ?

Range is still an issue with all EV's

Just like it is with a petrol car. That's why you fill up regularly to avoid the problem. If you know your petrol car has X km range and you plan to do that distance but stopping and going back to film constantly.. then you'd have the same outcome as this.

Is your petrol car full every time you get into it? NO! My BEV is. You spend an hour a month filling up in a smelly gas station. I spend 45 seconds plugging in on my way out the garage. ICE peaked in 2018 and the downhill slide will continue until that ancient archaic technology is off the roads for good. Fossil Fuel companies have corrupted every government on earth so good riddance.

Well, if I had even the slightest inkling to buy an EV, I don't now. I have had no problems matching and bettering the manufacturers fuel economy claim on my ICE vehicle. My VFII SSV Redline manual had 14.5 lph city/hwy average. On the hwy I get @ 9.8lph and around town its 11.5lph. I doubt that Tesla will ever get anywhere near 600+ km to a charge. Who wants to sit around for an hour waiting for the car to charge? What if those chargers were already being used? Where do those chargers get their power? From coal/gas? If so, then what's the point, given the massive amount of natural resources and energy that was required to manufacture and deliver that car?

You don't know much. Lifetime CO2 emissions of EVs are much lower than ICE cars, even when the power is generated from coal. Google it. Current Model S LR+ rated at just under 650km range. Even if it's not real world achievable, even a casual observer would know that the range of Teslas is gradually improving all the time.

@@rogermouton2273 lol, I don't know much...but you use Google as a source? How about all the CO2 produced during the mining of resources, manufacturing of steel, copper, lithium, plastic, aluminium, glass, silicon etc, and transportation of that vehicle half way around the world, before it even gets sold? What are they going to do with those batteries when they die in several years? You do realise that CO2 is not a pollutant? All life on earth depends on that 0.04% of CO2 the atmosphere. Perhaps you should be more concerned about all the actual pollution and destruction caused by the mining and manufacturing of these short lifespan cars before getting all excited about the most vital gas on our planet.

This drive wasn't a normal driving style: they stopped and reversed essentially taking video footage there and back. And for city driving: EVs are ideal, highway driving they are not as efficient. Versus petrol cars which the opposite is true. Most trips in cars are short, and the recommendation from tesla is to plug in overnight at home also. So that means you may never have to fill up except on the rare occasions that you need to go on a road trip - at which point you use the route planner to know when and where to stop and top up for 15 minutes or so. You do not need to fill to 100%, you get maximum charge rate from when it is down low and up to 70% or so.. that's where the fast chargers come in. So stopping for a stretch of legs and toilet break means you get enough topped up to continue.

funny how nobody adds the cost of manufacturing every piece of equipment that is required to get our oil out of the ground. What is the real cost to manufacture the oil rigs, ships and trucks we use to transport every step of the fuel supply chain.
