I really appreciate the content. I made a road trip in Jan-2022 (During Winter Freeze) from Georgia to Massachusetts in my 2015 MS 85D the supercharging network made the trip so easy (Cant beat that Unlimited Free Supercharging Privilege) I did have to give myself buffers as well because the colder temps decrease range. The BMS is pretty smart. because as the temps changed the range was displayed for the range. (I averaged 70 mph speed) and due to colder temps lost about 15-20 miles due to freezing 32F and below freezing 22F temps. It did do well sitting outside without being plugged in. (didn't lose much energy) The Below freezing 26F temps made it hard to warm the battery once driving due to lack of plugged in preconditioning.

Going 85 will destroy your mileage. 70 mph to 75 mph tops if you want any decent range. Temperature obviously plays a factor but 85 mph is the main reason your watt per miles are so high
@Myksgarage
@Myksgarage 2 жыл бұрын
Well when the speed limit is 80mph, it’s unrealistic to have to drive under the speed limit. That would make a long trip, even longer
@teslatalk42069

@@Myksgarage Actually your trip would be shorter because you would not spend as much time charging because you would have more remaining mileage when you got to your charging spot

@@teslatalk42069 Maybe with the older MS's. With 2018+ you arrive fasted if you would drive 100 mph (if it were legal). You win much time and thanks to the superfast charging, the extra time charging is less than you have won by going fast. See the videos of Norwegian EV guy Bjorn.

Ive found with the 85 battery pack on a road trip it's more efficient to drive slower and charge less because of the added time spent exiting the highway and returning to the highway which adds roughly 10-15 minutes beyond the time spent actually charging

Nice in depth video, thumbs up 👍 I’m in the market for a model S 90d with the free supercharging, we have 3 trips to France in the next year so it just makes sense as the Tesla kw rate in the uk is expensive, in fact if you have an economical petrol car I’d say it would probably be cheaper to go on a long trip than ev hence the hunt is on for a model S 😊

Just a comment about the Model 3s at 150kw chargers. If you have a SR or SR+ they only support 170kw and most of the time will not even hit peak. Our M3 2021 charges at 130 and drops off to around 100 after a while. Have not seen anywhere close to 170 yet. We live in Scandinavia so our climate is considerably colder than the US thou. I'm considering getting a P85D second hand for myself. ALOT of car for the money

@@Myksgarage when I lived in us, I never cared about electricity bills, now after leave the country and own an EV in China, I’m wondering if you guys can actually break even by saving gas money. In my country, I paid 7cents US/kWh fixed rate for electricity and gas is 5 dollars/gallon, I manage to saved my initial cost after 3.5 yrs and 32k miles. I need at least another 5 yrs to save the residual value compared to a Corolla hybrid. Generally US has a higher electricity rate and lower gas price. What do u guys think?
@rchrisday77

@@Alex-is-a-daddy There are so many factors to consider when comparing costs to operate electric versus ICE vehicles. Assuming the purchase price is the same, it costs me much less to operate my 2015 Model S than my wife's 2017 BMW X5. Right now gas is $3.50/gal. so it costs my wife $0.17/mile in her BMW X5 for fuel. My Model S charges at home for $0.11/kWh which roughly equates to $0.04/mile for fuel. With free unlimited supercharging on trips, that brings the average cost to less than $0.03/mile. When I showed her this she now always wants to take the Tesla when we go somewhere together. But to accurately compare the costs you also need to factor in the maintenance, repair, and insurance costs of each vehicle. I have found that insuring my Tesla is about 30% higher than insuring my wife's car. That really cuts into the savings but still much cheaper to operate my Tesla. Neither car is under warranty so only time will tell what repairs (or battery replacement) are in our future. Regarding the charging time on long trips, I agree, charging during trips will lengthen the overall time, but we usually stop pretty frequently anyway when driving our ICE on long trips. Also, the older you get, the more often you stop, so I don't see this as a huge drawback, especially since charging is free for my Model S.

Funny how this video popped up in my feed! I'm about to do my first tesla road trip(same make and model as yours). Baltimore, Maryland to The Keys is 11-1200 miles. I did do a round trip cross country drive last year in a Volvo C40(about 2700 miles each way). I could've used the tesla network with the adapter, but i purposely avoided it to test its viability (its absolute hell in the central states 😫). This time, it's all tesla the entire time. I am worried about there being only 2 supercharger stations in the Keys- but i guess(HOPE!) I'll be OK. 😅

Interesting that you tried using non Tesla chargers? Do you have free supercharging?
@mig6220
@mig6220 4 ай бұрын
@Myksgarage I do have the free super charging now. It's what helped tip the favor the P85D over non teslas. It's main purpose is road tripping. I did enjoy the electric Volvo last year, but the erratic charging networks made it unbearable. Electrify America is best, but they aren't everywhere. I got price goughed in a few places(putting down a $20 deposit on top of the over the top rates. Even when it didn't work- they once held on to $200 extra deposit dollars while I repeatedly tried getting a connection). I went to middle of nowhere chargers that didn't work. Had to back track 20+ miles with low battery to reach the nearest charger(glad it worked! Lmao) Some chargers would trickle charge all morning for 10-15 % more battery! It almost ruined the trip. It really opened my eyes. Tesla is the one that got it right the first time.

My dad used to make my sister and I sit in the back row jump seats in his 80s Saab 900s when we had other adults in the car. Oh no wait--it didn't have any jump seats. We just sat on flat cushions on the floor. Facing backwards, my sis spent a lot of the time trying not to throw up. Totally illegal now but nobody cared back then. Heck, if we'd had another couple siblings, my dad would probably have put them on the roof rack. No way I'd put my (or anyone else's) kids in those seats in any car without a full, forward-facing third row. Far too dangerous.

Can this 2015 model s upgraded to fsd? Or the hardware is old and not upgradable.?
@Myksgarage
@Myksgarage Ай бұрын
It cannot be upgraded. It has none of the cameras nor the full self driving computer. My understanding is you have to have at least auto pilot 2.5 to be able to upgrade to the FSD, and these 2014-2016 cars have auto pilot 1.0
