got an S because I prefer performance, range, and look. I don't need the added space of the X since Teslas already have an amazing amount of cargo room. I don't transport children or senior citizens often, so I don't need the X's easier entry/exit seating arrangement. I also wanted to have the known reliability of the S (tested, proven, tweeked). You forgot to mention the smart air suspension can raise the ride height of the S (very important information); I use it all the time on dirt roads and parking lots with no problems.

T h e Falcon wings doors can be horrible to get in sometimes because when u are in tight parking spots the sensor will read it and the door will only open a little bit so it's kind of a pain

I've only had this happen a couple of times. Normally even in tight parking spots the falcon wing doors open wide enough to get in to or out of the car. However, you can manually override the door to open further from the touchscreen or by holding the door open button on the inside. Or better yet, you can use Summon to have the Model X pull out of the space enough so that the doors aren't blocked.

I’ve had the model x for about 8 months now and this is what I have to say The model x is just straight up cooler though like it has the falcon wing doors (cough cough for flexing) also getting in is easier it does get a lot of attention I’ve also had a model s for a rental because we didn’t know if you start flooring a p100d in standard suspension or worse high the suspension can get misaligned or something like that because there’s so much torque (If you have a p100d drive it in low or this can happen) the windows do squeak and we even got it fixed and they still squeak, that’s the only problems we had with our car in 8 months or so. the model s didn’t have the electric doors and it just felt like a more normal car without the massive windshield also the model x is just a lot cooler also if you aren’t using the 3rd row a lot don’t get the 6/7 seater I got a 5 seater and where there is the 3rd row there is a massive space and the 2nd roe folds down we went on many road trips and for 4 people’s luggage for a 1 week trip in the space below the floor for a road trip and what I do is fold the seat down and put a pillow down and lay down and go to sleep while my parents use navigate on autopilot to drive on the highways which is very useful on long road trips Great video Brett👍🏼

I sold my Model s to get the x. The x is just a more premium and upgraded car feature wise, interior and seat quality and comfort, door pockets, automatic doors front and rear. The s has not caught up yet.

We chose the Model S because in Australia the price difference is enormous. I love the S as it is the original classic and I fell in love with it back in 2012. Can’t wait to have one of each though. We hired the model X for 12 days and it is amazing.

Another couple of things to consider 1. Model X has side door pockets and more cup holders overall 2. Model X -- with smart air suspension -- can REALLY get very tall which will help getting in and out of the car MUCH easier than Model S (I know S also has SAS but it doesn't get anywhere close in height as X)

+Rahul Ghate good points. I forgot about the door pockets. I decided not to mention the cup holders because the refreshed Model S now has 6 cupholders (4 up front and 2 in the back). The Model X still has more though in the 6 and 7 seater configurations. I agree, the Model X can get much higher than the Model S which is nice.

I personally think the decision now is between the Model X and the Model 3/Y. The Model 3 is an amazing car for the price. I just find it hard to spend the extra money on the Model S right now. At least with the Model X you get the falcon wing doors and panoramic windshield.

I think the main point is autonomy. If you consider really highway speed, the range of the S75D is almost the same as the X100D (which sees its autonomy dropping much more above 115-120kmh or in winter (densier air). So basically, the difference is not 5000$ but 20000$ as you really need to compare the S75D with the X100D. Then, the question is quite different obviously. So

That's a great question. When Tesla did the refresh on the Model S after the Model X came out, I would have bet money that they would have incorporated the self presenting front doors. I have a couple of theories why I think Tesla still hasn't. First, the door latches on the Model X had a lot of issues in the beginning. And second, the automatic doors require sensors in the doors. Adding the sensors probably requires making internal changes to the door and additional wiring. In the Model X, the door sensors are required for the falcon wing doors, so being able to use them for the front doors is a bonus. But to answer your question, I'm not sure if/or when it'll ever happen. I haven't heard any rumors about it so I'd guess that if it does happen, it's still a ways off. I don't think you can go wrong with either car, but I personally prefer the Model X.

You can't attach a tow bar on the Model S. After talking to Tesla staff, you can't even get one retrofitted as it'll void your warranty. I would have thought the drivetrains are identical.

Nice, congratulations on your Model X! You're going to love it! My Model X has been extremely reliable. I got a very early Model X so I had an issue with my front door latches (common with the early Model X's), but Tesla replaced them with a redesigned part. I never had any issues since then. Energy consumption is high when driving on the interstate, but if you slow down a little, it really helps increase your range. Let you know if you have any other questions. Congrats again!

Thanks! In a Tesla, slower is always going to be more efficient in terms of total mileage. Some people have hypemiled their Teslas to go 2x the rated range. It's not something you'd ever want to actually do; they drive around 25 mph with the climate control off. But it gives you an idea of how much speed affects your range. When using the navigation, it'll actually tell you to stay below a certain speed to reach the next charger or your destination.

+alakhlok thanks! I know the Model S seats have come a long way over the years. They used to be mediocre at best. I've heard they're pretty nice now, but some people still prefer the Model X seats. You can ask your Owner Adviser if you could do an overnight test drive to see how they feel on a long drive.

Tesla's are already the safest cars on the road. A big part of why they're so safe is the large crumple zones. The crumple zones dissipate energy when crushed which in turn reduces the force of the crash. The reinforced bumper with the jump seats actually reduces the rear crumple zone. So while it's extremely important to have the reinforced bumper if you have the jump seats, it would not be beneficial if you didn't have the seats/occupants in the trunk area.

It wouldn't be just to improve occupant safety, but to make it less likely to total the car in case of a rear end collision. Almost any incident that would push the rear bumper against the front in some cars would leave it drivable and restorable for much less cost. I've seen one that totaled a semi pulling a trailer that hit it. The owner drove it home and repairs were between 35k and 40k USD. I've also seen MSs without it rear ended far up enough to kill back seat passengers if there were any. Presumably by taller vehicles that were also very heavy. A low enough bumper doesn't do much against a high bumper that goes over it, but the rear impact resistant glass attached to a reinforced frame helps.

Thank you for your thorough and clear explanations and reasonings of both models. My brother recently bought his Tesla model S a few months ago, and he says he was glad to buy it but for the past year I, myself, wanted to buy my own Tesla one day after when I finish my college courses and get into the two different nursing programs that I'm interested in so I can become a registered nurse. I'm a tall 5'10 in a half 21-year-old girl, and I went inside of my brother's new Tesla and I did love how it looked inside and out but I do agree it felt a bit less spacious and cramped considering that I'm tall and my brother isn't as tall as me. He's 5'8 so he fits in perfectly but for me I'm glad that I'm considering getting the X model because it looks more spacious due to the falcon doors and the windshield and height difference seems a bit more bigger. Hopefully by then they'll have better models once I finish my school prerequisite classes and can apply to the nursing programs and I can get my career going, I feel like by then they'll have better Tesla models and I'm sure I'm going to love it regardless. Looks very modern and gorgeous inside and out but also helps with the environment since its electronic. Tesla has been my dream car since for almost about a year now, my only biggest concern is that I heard that if the car battery overheats, it can explode. I hope that never happens but I have heard a story like that about Teslas. But overall I am very pleased with the new car models.

I think the Model S and X have a little better ride comfort and quieter, but the Model 3 and Y are still good. I don't think you can really go wrong with any. Unfortunately, Tesla stopped giving away free supercharging miles a few months ago.

The Model S seats 5 people. Yes, there's a middle seat in the back. The Model S is a wide car so it shouldn't be too bad sitting 3 across in the back seat. One nice thing about Teslas is they don't have that hump in the middle of the floor since they're electric. That makes sitting in the middle seat a LOT better than a gasoline car! You could also consider the Model X in the 6 seat configuration. One person could sit in 3rd row and their legs can go between the two seats in the middle row (there's no middle seat in the 6 seat configuration giving more legroom to the 3rd row). Let me know if you end up getting a Tesla!

The falcon wing doors are hinged in two places so that they only need about 12" of space to open. They have sensors to adjust how the door opens to ensure it doesn't hit the car next to you.

The Model 3 is an amazing car. I test drove one for the first time recently, and there are aspects of it that seem nicer than the Model S or X! The air vents are so slick. They make all other cars seem so old fashioned! You're going to love the Model 3 when you get it!

+Blakey Golding since making this video, Tesla has made a few changes. The biggest change is that they rolled the cold weather package and audio upgrade package into the premium upgrade package. So now you either have to get them all or none of them. I think they're nice options, but it depends on how much you're willing to spend. I don't think it's necessary to get the premium upgrade package if you're trying to save some money. Also, the 7 seater now has a bench style seat for the middle row like the 5 seater. This means that the middle row can fold flat which is nice if you ever need to fit something large in the back. I'd go with the 20" wheels. The 22's cost more and you get about 15% less range with them.

To open the Model X doors you kind of press on the handle area. The handle doesn't actually go in so I think it would take a lot to freeze it and prevent the door from opening. I haven't had any issues. For the Model S door, I've actually seen video of the handle popping out through a thin layer of ice. I'm not sure how much ice it could break through though. If you ever found yourself in a situation where the door froze and wouldn't open, there are a couple of things you could try. First, check the other doors. Second, try the trunk since the S and X are both "hatchbacks" and you can directly access the passenger area of the car. Third, you can try preheating the car on high from the app. I'm not sure if would warm up the car enough to melt ice on the door, but it's worth a shot!

My service has been fine. I think some of the early Tesla owners got used to being treated like royalty. As Tesla has grown, their service isn't quite as fancy as it was before. However, Tesla has been really expanding their mobile service fleet so now most items can be done without a trip to the service center. That's huge. They'll come to wherever you are and fix your car (home, work, etc). Tesla's build quality has also greatly improved so there are less issues than there were a year or two ago. I wouldn't let the negative comments persuade you.

+SA Chang yes, towing has a big impact on range. I've read that the aerodynamics of the trailer make a big difference. If you tow something that isn't very aerodynamic, then you'll easily lose half your range.

Yes, and one reason I got the 100D vs the 75D. That extra 25 kWh will help me make it between superchargers and also charge faster at the supercharger. I'm hoping to be able to make 300 miles a day pulling a travel trailer. Since I can easily do 600 miles without one, 300 miles with a trailer should be doable.

+Nayan Naik I love my white seats. I recommend them to everyone. Mine still look brand new after 1.5+ years. I was nervous about blue jean dye transfer too. I keep a set of white towels in my frunk that I sit on whenever I'm dirty/sweaty. I also sometimes sit on a white towel when I wear jeans, but not all the time. I mostly do it with new jeans or darker jeans. I've also heard of people sitting on a pillow case to protect against dye transfer. I think myself and others are probably being overly cautious. Bjorn drives a ton (45k miles/year) and he wears dark blue raw denim jeans. He's had issues with dye transfer, but he's a worst case scenario. He also doesn't do anything to protect the seat from dye transfer. I hope that helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.

You can also buy cleaning wipes that can wash away any blue dye transfer.

Not really. They're both in the top 3 safest cars ever built according to crash testing. The insurance costs vary wildly from company to company so you'll definitely want to shop around. But I don't think there's much difference between the insurance cost on the Model S or X.

I bought a Ford Focus Electric new in 2017; Ford never advertised the car (or the lead-acid Ford Ranger) in Michigan, my state. Some people who have seen my car believed at first that it is a hybrid vehicle because their awareness derives from advertising.

Thank you for this presentation. I think I’ll go with the model S. First, IMHO, the model X is UGLY. Secondly, I’m a sedan type guy. SUVs do nothing for me.

I still think the Model X is the best car money can buy. Although, the Model 3 is amazing and a much better value. So it's hard to justify buying a Model S or X right now with how good the Model 3 is when it's so much cheaper. Plus, I think Tesla is going to update the interior of the Model S and X sometime next year (2020) to have similar air vents and a landscape screen like the Model 3. Once Tesla does that, then the Model S and X will be clear winners again.

Yes, with the Model 3 you can get 1000 free miles of supercharging by using a referral link. With the Model S and X, you can get free unlimited supercharging for as long as you own the car.

No, you can charge from any electric source. You can even charge from a normal wall outlet, although, it'll be really slow.

+TechNaiSci no, they start at 70k. If you get the largest battery, performance version with ludicrous mode and fully equipped, then it can cost around 150k. I've read that the average selling price of the Model S is 100k, but a lot of people just buy the base model for 70k.

Hmm, that's a good question. I'm guessing that because the Model S and X are less common and more premium vehicles, you'd be able to rent them out for more. But I'm not sure if they'd be able to cover the difference in cost between the Model 3. The new Model S looks awesome though!
