It's weird for me to hear things like "can't justify the Porsche's price" based on performance and range. Porsche's are not priced due to just performance. They have a whole heritage of sophistication in their performance and Porsche has one of the most stout body structures in the industry. The fit and finish, the quality, the refinement, that's what. you pay for. That said, I really love this analysis and how thorough it is and the effort put into it. I just think while Tesla has great numbers, other cars are worth more due to higher refinement.

Absolutely correct! 👍🏼 The value proposition and original design brief put forward by each of these brands is completely different to the other. If speed were the only measurement, $1 million Rolls Royces, wouldn't exist... There are much more cheaper, much faster cars and supercars available at a fraction of the RR... 😎👍🏼

Porsche has heritage and history but Tesla has innovation and being the pioneer in this space. Porsche is one of the best ICE builders all time but Tesla made EVs the future, they came up with the concept of OTAs, FSD was thought out before the first vehicle rolled off - hardware equipped to take pictures and even upload them to be used by the AI/ML engine for developing software. Not to mention the supercharger network. No dealer approach, mobile service that comes to ones vehicle for some repairs, and more. A lot of people, including me, will reward Tesla always for that. Just like people have been drawn to Apple iPhone for example. People like an underdog story, newcomers, etc. Therefore, comparisons based on value, will definitely exist because I am not sure in peoples' eyes, Tesla is an underdog here and that Porsche's, whatever the glorified past, matters much comparing it against Tesla.

Cant agree more. I have gone to the Porsche dealer and check out the Taycan, build quality is way better than my co worker new Model S. Owning a Porsche has never been cheap and rightfully so. You can say a Rolex (I own 3 of them including a Daytona) is not worth its price compares to an Apple Watch, but that’s not the point. My point is that sometimes owning a luxury item is base on pure emotion, just like spending $400 on a dinner with my wife in Alexander’s.

If you're going to hate, at least be factual. The body fenders have been widened. In, the only things you might be able to swap is the hatch lid, and exterior door panels (as you know the inside is 100% new). That's why owners who wanted the updated front fascia in 2016 needed hood, headlights and bumper to make the change (Unplugged came out with an aftermarket bumper that let owner keep their existing headlights). What you call lazy is simply genius. A car whose design came out in 2009 STILL looks brand new today. Definitely does not look dated.

As a Tesla owner and fan, I will happily admit that that Taycan is a very sexy car. I've only seen a couple in person, but it's got a real presence in it's stance and design, that the Model S, while attractive, just doesn't compare. I'd still probably go with the Model S, I'd have to do something about that steering yoke though. One thing watching this video, I'm starting to realize how alien those Taycan headlights are. I guess I'm just used to the more traditional Porsche headlights, those look very strange with their LED running light bars in the housing. I almost wonder what the Taycan would look like with more standard-looking headlights. They're kind of distracting to me now.

Yeah, the Taycan has just so much more character and drama compared to the Tesla. In this regard it reminds me of some Italian car designs, which is pretty much the most praise I could give it. The Model S is really fine. It's essentially highly inoffensive and therefore ages quite well. But that also means there's very little incentive for Tesla to change their formula and be experimental. The Plaid is really much representative of that. It mostly got a beefed up powertrain, but got very little changes to its overall design and other features. The most prominent change is the (at this point infamous) 'yoke' and that is not even a step into the right direction. Meanwhile Porsche seems to be very confident and creative about their own electric future, which seems to have embolden them to design the Mission-R, which I find fascinating and awesome to look at, in pretty much every aspect.

Claiming 500+ range for the plaid is quite "optimistic" Claiming 190 miles range for the Taycan tend to show that you did not drove one of them or had a look to reviews ... :( It seems to go much more to 250-270 miles. Moreover, when charging at 270 kW, whom does it bother to take a 10-14 minutes break every 2+ hours driving ? Here in Europe, you have to stop every 2 hours says the law (and probably our bodies too). This is the time to go to the toilets, grab a bottle of water, pay for it and go back to the car. So to which extend is the range such a big deal as log as it can provide more than 2-3 hours journey .. ?

I do like the Tesla but out of these two I'd still choose the Porsche. The actual range difference in the real world is more like 230 vs 300 miles and the 0-60 seems to be 2.3 or 2.2 for the tesla, not 2.0. So Tesla still is the fastest car out there for sure but that faster acceleration, even if it was 0.6s, is it worth the trade off? For me it raises the question, what's more important? Emotion, looks, faster charging, interior and build quality vs power and 70 miles more range and 40k$ less money. I don't quite get the Model S atm, 140k is super luxury brand territory but you don't get the luxury you might expect, you 'only' get power and more range which isn't as useful in a daily driver, which i believe both are meant to be. I'd rather feel more comfy and upscale in my car than know i can outrun the taycan on a drag strip. And the turbo S is still plenty fast. But that's just me.

@@a.banana yeah, like I said, 2.3 or 2.2 i wasnt sure about the exact time and i guess more tests are needed. so the difference to 60 is about 0.4s. Which is clearly better, I'm not trying to put Tesla down here the performace is amazing. This is all hypothetical anyway cause I can't spend 140k on a car let alone 190k for the Porsche lol. My point is, the performance is not as useful as some benefits the Porsche gives you in everyday use. For me, the Tesla I would choose is the Model X LR or Plaid, which is 10k less or more. Because that one gives some really useful benefits being that spacious and the performance is good enough I'd say. If I had 120-130k to spend on a car I still don't know if i wouldn't go for a slower but better built car though. Tough choice.

@@Milkastier I'm not trying to dismiss what has been said, I understand where you're coming from. I'm just saying, when it comes to EV's, at this level of HP, a 0-60 comparison will not really give a good idea of the performance gap. Even an all out, 2,000hp hypercar like the Rimac Nevera could only improve on the Plaid's 0-60 by 0.1 of a second. The 60-130mph paints a much clearer picture.

For me, interior quality, service, build quality, interior and exterior design would just be a lot more important since I wouldn't need more power or range with my driving profile. And if I need more space I'd go for the station wagon taycan. Handling would be a point to consider, but I don't know who'd win there. Couple things (Taycan owner here): 1) EPA rated range isn't a reliable indicator for actual range, Tesla overstates vs Porsche understates so the difference isn't that significant 2) You cannot possibly decide on a car without actually driving it. That's pointless. People almost never buy a car simply because of its acceleration time on a drag strip (unless they're planning to drag race it), they buy based on multiple factors like ride, handling, design, warranty, service etc... Porsche is hands down the winner in most of those areas, this is not disputable. Tesla is almost last on the JD Power list, Porsche is near the top. Many current Taycan owners have owned multiple Teslas and most say their experience was pretty bad with dealers, and quality issues were rampant. Before you give your opinion, go drive both and then make your comments about the values. :)

You shouldn't go by EPA in range. It's notoriously inaccurate. The Porshe exceeds EPA by a lot, the Tesla underperforms by a lot as well. The same is true for stated 0-60 numbers. This is well known the Bembli should know this. For example I have both a Model 3 and a Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo. The model 3 gets around 40 miles less than EPA, the Porsche gets over 50 more in range.

Tesla is (like many other Silicon Valley companies) primarily pursuing a aggressive aquisition of (ever) new customers in order to grow fast and to satisfy all the hype around the company, atleast on a surface level. In this context, a long-term maintaining of customer support, satisfaction and loyalty is only secondary in that strategy. I'd also argue that Tesla's most important "product" is actually not their actual cars or (promised) software capabilities, but their enormous (and imo. inflated) stock valuation. Bc, if that stock value were to take a decent hit or deflates over time, Musk could be on the hook, bc he has apparently huge liabilties and is using large parts of his own stock portfolio as securties for that debt.

I really wish sporty electric cars put more of an emphasis on driving experience than sheer speed. Every electric sports car I’ve seen has always been abt accelerating hard and going fast, and not abt losing the back end and pulling off the perfect shift. That’s y I personally dislike Tesla: they don’t have a manual option. Hell, they don’t even have a semi-automatic transmission. I would much rather have paddles than nothing at all. And Teslas can’t drift because none of the power is being sent 2 the rear wheels in any mode. Their quality control is garbage, and the interior is 2 simplistic (u can’t adjust something without flipping through 50 different menus in the screen, which is much more distracting and time consuming than just having the knob right there, and not a single soul in the world can change my mind). There r other reasons, but I’m just starting a few. I’m sorry if I hurt the feelings of a few Tesla fanboys in this comment section (I’m not)

Sorry, but I see no point to look at how the design does or does not replicate the "concept," nor do I care very much about the design of the tail lamps (so long as they work). To me, the question is the function of the car -- how well does it do the job of transporting you and your passengers, as well as protecting you. That includes comfort, convenience (including charging and range), safety, and factors such as the audio system, build quality, cabin materials, and so on. In that sense, there are some start differences between these two cars. One emphasizes performance over luxury, the other includes both. And of course the prices differ accordingly. Differences in range and charging are significant, too, so the buyer has to decide what matters most.
