Why did the original fail? Would have thought it should last longer.

@redsagehd366 yea i replaced it and it worked for about an hour i need to do the condensor and flush it now
@WalkingAndWisdom25 күн бұрын
Any reason you chose not to replace the condenser as well? About to do this job on my 2016 Model X and thinking I should also replace the condenser as well.
@redsagehd36625 күн бұрын
I didnt replace the condenser because it didnt fail, the compressor failed, and what it comes down to is price and availability, I'd suggest doing a desiccant bag or the whole condenser. but in this case we ordered a desiccant bag but it never came in the mail so we just replaced the compressor. replacing more parts is always better then less parts it comes down to the price that comes with it that the customer is willing to pay for or not.

@@redsagehd366 Got it. Yeah I'd rather not do the condenser (more work) but I will just to be safe. Thanks for this video it's super helpful! I just ordered all the parts!

How is the RYC Remanufactured compressor holding up? Also, did you need to send them your old one? Can you do one with teh dessicant bag replacement as well?
@redsagehd3668 күн бұрын
@@fabiendass2255 holding up well, my father whose car this is, is an Uber driver in the Las Vegas heat so 8+ hours a day of not stop function since this video was made. Did not send them my old one, there was no core charge. Funny enough we ordered the desiccant bag but it never showed up, but he needed the car asap so we did without, in my opinion it would’ve been fine as far as the age of the bag and aswell as the dry climate it lives in so we didn’t install one, I recommend replacing that bag if you can though

It says on the service manual that it takes 2 cans
@redsagehd3662 ай бұрын
@@euthopialis7031 ya it says it takes minimum about 700-740 grams or 24.5-26 oz. The only cans I could find were 8oz cans. I put in 3 8 oz cans and pressures were low and it was only blowing 60 degrees at the vents, we found out it needed more, hope the video helps

Did you have to add any oil to the new compressor?
@redsagehd3662 ай бұрын
@@Minga_562 oil was prefilled with this compressor, so no, if yours does not have oil pre charged I’ve heard you can measure the weight of the old compressor then fill with oil till the weight matches the old one, I haven’t done that before but heard another guy doing that for a Tesla before.
@Minga_562Ай бұрын
Thanks for the reply. What about the "desiccant bag"? Did you have to replace that? I'm getting ready to do the compressor myself after watching your video.
@redsagehd366Ай бұрын
@@Minga_562 we ordered the desiccant bag but it never arrived so we ended up just doing the compressor replacement without it. As someone who works as a mechanic at a dealership we say its best to do the desiccant filter/bag (also known as an air dryer) whenever you open the system but personally I've reused them all the time, kinda just depends on how old and used it is. This only being 4 years old and lived in a dry environment its whole life we just said screw it since it was so painfully hot in Vegas at the time, we didn't really want to wait any longer. if I remember correctly there's a cylinder on the right side of the ac compressor which is parallel to the bottom of the frunk floor, once the system is evacuated, unthread the cap on the top, slide out the old bag and install new bag and o ring for cap, there is not that much to it. hope that helps!

Man I just took my model s to Tesla they quoted me 3000 to swap my ac compressor in California and I don't have it
@redsagehd3662 ай бұрын
ya they quoted my dad $3500 in Las Vegas and it woulda took 3 weeks to get it done. So thats when he called me up and I decided to figure it out because there were no good videos showing how to do this! hope the video helps! My dad's model x has been running 10 hour days everyday since this video was filmed, so about 2 weeks of heavy use because he's an uber driver, with no problems
