FYI I live in Tampa FL and I brought my March 2021 Model Y Performance to Autopaintguard who charged me $1500 for a full front Expel PPF with a 10 year warranty. They also did a full body ceramic and tint on all windows except for the roof, for extra of course. But the PPF full front including number and mirrors were $1500 and they installed it perfectly! So I’m not really sure $1,795 is a great deal where you have to install it yourself. I didn’t get. My special deal either, that’s their standard quote for that car, and they have been around for over 20 years and do exotic cars every day. If doing the front end, what should be the first ‘’learning’’ most forgiving) panel? When do you use the ‘tax’ spray and is it necessary to cover 100% of the area between the film and the paint?
@BeardedTeslaGuy2 жыл бұрын
For the front end, start with the hood or the fenders. Do the bumper last. You will use the tack solution to make the film stick, so only once you have it in place and want it to stick. Usually only need to use it in the corners, or areas that are not staying down on their own.

Help me understand, as some who has only ever drive older already dinged up cars and trucks - is this PPF thing something people do to all high-end new cars, or it is specific to Tesla because of the issues with their paint quality?
@BeardedTeslaGuy3 жыл бұрын
It’s not a paint quality issue, it’s more of the fact that the front end of the car is a huge painted surface exposed to everything. Certainly the higher in price you go on a car the more prevalent PPF becomes, but it’s honestly that front bumper and shape of the car that makes it so exposed to chips

Quick question. Do you know if drive protected shop does a deal for the complete car wrap on Black Friday? I’m going to be buying two sets and it’s just expensive.

They had an extra 5% last year so maybe again this year?

Question: did you do ceramic coat on top of the PPF? Can you recommend mud flaps too? Thanks so much. Your video was very inspiring

Ceramic is coming. Mud flaps were in the red calipers video earlier this week. Really like them
@RayNLA3 жыл бұрын
Yes! Two coats of Gtechniq Halo on top of PPF. Pro Tip…Put a light coat of wax on the paint before doing PPF, wipe the edges with alcohol. It helps with lift lines when repositioning the film. And easier removal in the future. For air bubbles use a syringe. And never use 3M film!!!

You don’t remove it. It’s a semi permanent layer. Removing it is very tricky once dry

About how long did it take start to finish. Also, did you detail the vehicle prior to lock in the perfect finish? I’m debating just doing the front bumper area as that tends to get the most damage. I have a model X as well and wish I did that as the front bumper is all dinged up.

this was about 5 hours start to finish, including a wash first. Use dawn dish soap to wash it before applying, don't use anything infused with wax or other products.
