I’ve got a guy doing my entire front end for just under $1000. I had to book it way in advance, but xpel full frontal on a model y done for me for a grand is the best deal I’ve found anywhere. Already had the front door windows and the front windshield ceramic tinted. I’m on the fence about the wheels I’m going to buy but leaning towards a set of 20” BC Forged in Matte Black. 21’s are just to harsh on the ride quality.

FYI I live in Tampa FL and I brought my March 2021 Model Y Performance to Autopaintguard who charged me $1500 for a full front Expel PPF with a 10 year warranty. They also did a full body ceramic and tint on all windows except for the roof, for extra of course. But the PPF full front including number and mirrors were $1500 and they installed it perfectly! So I’m not really sure $1,795 is a great deal where you have to install it yourself. I didn’t get. My special deal either, that’s their standard quote for that car, and they have been around for over 20 years and do exotic cars every day. I know because every time I went there I saw Lambos, Ferraris, Corvettes, Tesla’s, etc.

If doing the front end, what should be the first ‘’learning’’ most forgiving) panel? When do you use the ‘tax’ spray and is it necessary to cover 100% of the area between the film and the paint?
@BeardedTeslaGuy
@BeardedTeslaGuy 2 жыл бұрын
For the front end, start with the hood or the fenders. Do the bumper last. You will use the tack solution to make the film stick, so only once you have it in place and want it to stick. Usually only need to use it in the corners, or areas that are not staying down on their own.

@@BeardedTeslaGuy thx for the reply. My son, Brad, was the announced PPF winner the other day and he gifted it to me since he is already done. Then he got bumped on the recount. So I am on the fence of just doing the spray for the $140 or doing the front. I can't seem to find the order link for the pro total front. BTW I see cheaper priced on EBAY from the same company. I assume it is not the pro and is a less costly material, correct? Any chance of a better discount since we were the announced then rescinded winners?

Hello BTG…. I’m sure by now you’ve figured out that I’m your #1 fun if you’re running those stats. Thanks for all the hard work…….. important question: I bought the full body PPF from drive protected per your recommendation. I started the install last night. Completed the hood and fenders. However I may have used too much dawn soap in my slip. I see a slight haze or possibly minor difference in the color of the hood vs the bumper. Can the wrap be removed and reinstalled ? My car colors are the same as yours cos it’s the best combo. Also wish we could communicate via calls if possible . Thanks 🙏🏽

Did the film come with the both solutions and the squeegee needed for the install? or did you have to buy those separate? I dont see the solutions listed on the drive protected site.
@BeardedTeslaGuy
@BeardedTeslaGuy 3 жыл бұрын
no it does not. In several of the vids, I explained the solution makeup. For Slip, fill a 32 oz bottle with distilled water, then a squirt of baby Johnson shampoo. For tack, it is 1 part alcohol to 9 parts distilled water.

Thanks for all the help with prepping for delivery of my Tesla BTG! One question here, does the Xpel you mention in this video come from the drive protected site or do they use another type of PPF? If so is it similar to work with/protection/quality?
@BeardedTeslaGuy
@BeardedTeslaGuy 2 жыл бұрын
Xpel has put a stop to diy kits so drive protected has brought a new film with the same characteristics as Xpel. It’s still 8 mill thick, 10 year warranty. After installing both, this installed as easy as Xpel from my experience.

It appears that you cut out the sensors and tow eye. Do you reapply the cutout for the tow eye cover or does the kit provide one (looks like you peel back one for the tow eye cover). Are you using an Exacto knife for the cuts? Any concerns with damaging paint when cutting PPF?

Help me understand, as some who has only ever drive older already dinged up cars and trucks - is this PPF thing something people do to all high-end new cars, or it is specific to Tesla because of the issues with their paint quality?
@BeardedTeslaGuy
@BeardedTeslaGuy 3 жыл бұрын
It’s not a paint quality issue, it’s more of the fact that the front end of the car is a huge painted surface exposed to everything. Certainly the higher in price you go on a car the more prevalent PPF becomes, but it’s honestly that front bumper and shape of the car that makes it so exposed to chips

Yes! Two coats of Gtechniq Halo on top of PPF. Pro Tip…Put a light coat of wax on the paint before doing PPF, wipe the edges with alcohol. It helps with lift lines when repositioning the film. And easier removal in the future. For air bubbles use a syringe. And never use 3M film!!!
