I enjoy your videos but I have one comment. When I am wearing my earbuds, there is too much contrast between the volume when you are talking vs the music playing while you are driving. I am constantly having to adjust the volume to protect my hearing. Thanks for listening and keep the videos coming. Sue in Iowa

Nice trip and very interesting. Get some RV charging mobile ev adapters (tt-30 and regular 14-50) and you will have a lot less stress especially in the mid-west when you are off the interstate. People forget their mobile adapter opens up all those RV spots with charging available especially while you sleep overnight. TT-30 can use evse adapters that go directly into mobile adapter and not that expensive.

Very VERY well done video! Just enough scenery and cut to the chase with charging and data. Love it Would love to do a similar trip, but I’m in florida. Probably can’t make my wife go along with it. Probably fly to Edmonton, rent a Tesla, then make a Jasper - Banff loop. This motivates me to do it sooner than later. Thanks for bringing us along!!!

Very generous 45 mins video. Love every part of it. How much did it cost for charging up the Model Y for the whole road trip?
@iowatesla Жыл бұрын
Unfortunately I don’t know. Used free supercharger miles and the car won’t report normal charges.

great video great job putting it together great scenery along the way…thanks for taking me along. i have one question…how did you plan for this trip? I have not taken a long trip with my Model Y so I really do not know where to start? in fact I have not watched a video explaining how to plan a long trip? it would be a great video if you could make one. thank you

4 months later, still no superchargers in Minot, ND. My guess as to why that plastic might be on the supercharger is maybe to keep people from parking on the other side and trying to charge from there. And getting 50k miles on your tires is actually really good for an EV. Most people seem to be replacing them every 35k or so.
@iowatesla11 ай бұрын
Yea. Minot really needs one. No idea why it hasn't happened yet. Thanks for watching!

How did you find the prices of supercharging in Canada vs. the US? Higher, lower, or about the same?
@iowatesla Жыл бұрын
I used free supercharger miles so I don’t know. Based on memory and currency conversion, pricing was similar.

My Model Y was built sometime in July or August of 2021 and I was one of the unlucky few whose Y was delivered without the necessary hardware in order to use a CCS charger with the adapter. Kinda hoping that they don’t make me pay for the hardware when it becomes available. Not holding my breath. But so far, I’ve never had the need to use anything but a Tesla supercharger. And there’s a heck of a lot more and better V3 chargers now than when I bought my car, so maybe it won’t matter in the long run.

Thanks for the trip. Am planning an April trip to Washington from Wisconsin for the Tulip Festival. Will be interesting to see how the colder weather will affect the usage compared to what you experienced in the summer. Right now the trip planner has us traversing ND as it's about 35 mi shorter than going through SD. Weather at that time may adjust that route though. Any other tips/thoughts on a long trip? Must haves or highly recommended "just in case" items? (will be in a 22 MYLR)
@iowatesla Жыл бұрын
I recommend you stay in SD. You will have a better time in Montana. Many V3 chargers will be open by then. Good luck!

Buying a CCS adapter just to be safe (used your Hansshow link if that helps you). Assume your wife is more patient than mine. We drove from St. Louis to Maryland and back in my new MY and had plenty of Tesla Super Charger options (except where we stayed in Maryland). First long distance trip and my wife "complained" how long each stop was. Can only imagine what she would be saying if we were in the middle of Canada trying to figure out options to charge. Having the CCS and J1772 adapters might help ease some concerns. Sticking to the speed limit would help but probably not going to happen :) Appreciate all the details of your journey.
@iowatesla Жыл бұрын
My wife has completely bought into the EV lifestyle. That was not the case 3 years ago. Hopefully your wife will come around. It also helps that we are both over 50 and need to stop more often.
@YeOldeTravellerАй бұрын
My first EV road trip was in a friend's MYLR. 2400 mile round trip from Detroit to Winnipeg. With 2 couples, we waited on the car exactly once, and that was optional to avoid a detour for charging in Winnipeg. I now have a Ford Mustang Mach-E Rally, and I would love a bit more range and charging speed. I have the reverse: NACS adapter for CCS and NACS to J1772. Options are good.
@johnlabernik4599 Жыл бұрын
Do you typically arrive at your chargers with such a big buffer? It never seemed like you were more than 5% off the estimate, so why not use a 10% buffer?
@iowatesla Жыл бұрын
Looking back, I should have. We didn’t know what we would run into or if we would be making any unscheduled side trips. We are always a little more cautious when we aren’t familiar with the region.

The Tesla Supercharger network is rock solid. Used CCS a few times. Encountered all kinds of issues but was able to get a charge (slowly) at every place we tried it. CCS is still a crap shoot IMO.

Very poor planning with your charging. Too often you were at a high SOC when starting your charge. You made your trip longer than it had to be. You find 10% on arrival to be cutting it too close; I never want to be higher than that on arrival. I get it though you don't like taking risks. Still, I don't see 10% as a risk. P.S I did enjoy your video. Thank you
