We bought the Lectron Vortex and had the difficult to disconnect issue. We sent it back and received an updated replacement which we’ve not been able to properly test on either our BMW iX or Volvo C40. This solves the biggest problem i have with the other adapters by default. With the other adapters, someone could unplug the NACS handle from your vehicle and cut the charging session early. With this change, if your vehicle has locked on to the adapter, the adapter will be locked on to the NACS handle in a way that can not be messed with externally.

Last Friday I was at the Tesla Supercharger in Wisconsin Dells when a Rivian R1S and Ford Mustang Mach-E stopped to charge using the A2Z NACS to CCS1 Adapter. Both owners had trouble getting their adapter to lock so they could continue to charge. In light of the new development that you are reporting on today with the release of their Gen 2 product, I would highly recommend that A2Z reach out to their customers and offer them a free upgrade of to the new and improved Gen 2 adapter.

This maybe true but I think the onus is on A2Z to reach out to their customers whenever possible to inform them of such situations where they offer a free upgrade to an engineering defect on such a critical charging component. A lot of these EV owners are newbies to the electric vehicle world . They may think there is something wrong with them as to how they are using the adapter not that there is an engineering defect in the product.

Hey Tom! Love your videos my friend as always! One quick note. Tesla supercharging can be stopped by pressing the round circle on the NACS plug (you would use this button to open the charge port on a Tesla vehicle). While the new latch mechanism is a slight ergonomic improvement, it seems that the Typhoon Pro latch design forces the user to remove the CCS end first, which is the opposite of what UL2252 says to do. I'll stick with my Lectron Vortex. Removing the NACS plug with the adapter securely attached to the car gives much more ergonomic position, and avoids the awkward task of removing the NACS plug from an unsecured adapter which could be dropped if it's tight and releases suddenly.

One word of caution on using third party adapters. I have the original A2Z Typhoon adapter and I have used it about a dozen times with my R1T. The last time I used it, I received an error in my truck stating "Charging speed slower, Warm plug detected". I was only able to charge up to about 50kW. Ambient temperature was about 60 degrees F. I unplugged and re-started the session and I was able to charge at full speed. But then I started to get the error on both EA and RAN chargers. Initially I could just restart the session to get full speed, but eventually this stopped working and I am now only able to charge at about 50kW on all CCS chargers. My R1T is now in service being repaired. The service center did not explicitly state that it was caused by the A2Z adapter, but they told me not to use a third party adapter in the future. They stated that the repair my cost as much as $5,000. They are covering the repair under warranty for me, but I imagine that in the future they may not.

Have used the gen 1 A2Z over a dozen times with Rivian including in 95 degree weather and in full sun and had no issues and charging at peak R1T rate around 217kw. Once you’ve used the lock a couple times it’s second nature. Like seeing a pro model, but see no reason to upgrade.

Since you have contacts inside Tesla, can you ask why the adapters are not being shipped for Ford vehicles? If I am not mistaken, it has been a couple of months since anyone received adapters. It's hard to tell, there's 37 pages of discussion over on the Mach e forum about this. There's a phone number on the order site that says you can call Tesla and ask about the status of your order, but from what I read, when people do they are just being told there is no update.

I have the 1st version and should get my free Ford/Tesla adapter in a couple weeks. Like many of your viewers I got the A2Z because I wanted to do a long road trip and my favoured route had Tesla Chargers and nothing else (Valemont, Clearwater BC). I now go to a Tesla Charger to warm my battery while getting a coffee before going on a L2 at work. I will try plugging the adapter in first next time but I always use the disconnect button by the charging port to end the session. BTW, thanks for your videos, excepting yourself, nobody explains this stuff very well. Just wondering if you'd do OBD adapters and Apps. I have a 'Vgate iCar Pro Bluetooth 4.0' and use CarScanner on my iPhone and I use that to monitor my HV and 12v SOC and other aspects like battery temperature. Doing that I have had issues with my 12v battery and discovered I left an Air Pump plugged in my USB port in the back :D. It wasn't the scanner (which has a low power mode) but now I'm being a bit careful and now there is a 'battery protection' mode on my 12v in FordPass which seems to help. Some discussion about 12v systems might be cool.

It still has the exposed screws yours has-no rubber coverings as you mentioned you were told it would come with in your video. Does that mean I got a preproduction version like yours or did they decide not to cover the exposed screws? Also, the instructions have a caution note “Always safeguard the NACS to CCS1 Adapter from moisture, water, and foreign objects…”. Does this mean you shouldn’t use it in inclement weather conditions? I would hope they only mean not to expose the connection points from moisture and that it would be a sealed unit while charging. Thanks for all of your videos and reviews. They are extremely helpful.

I tested this with my Orignal A to Z adapter, the truck see the DC pins are connected & the level 2 wont communicate with the truck, it just says problem with cahrging session... but it's because the truck is looking for DC power & it's not present on the connector.. .. You can order an AC adapter but i've not tried it just know they make an AC to AC version.

Dose this only work with Ford or Will this work with an Ioniq 5 or do I have to wait till Hyundai rolls their adapter out?

We have a Mercedes EQE SUV. What adapter can we use for NACS to CCS? Will these void our warranty? I don’t seem to be able to get an answer from Mercedes. Any Mercedes drivers out there using an adapter and what brand?
@StateOfChargeWithTomMoloughney2 ай бұрын
Mercedes EVs are not authorized to use Tesla Superchargers yet so no adapter will work. We're expecting it to happen sometime in the next few months, though. Any of the adapters in my video will work and are 100% safe to use, although when MB gets Supercharger access, they may have their own rules o which ones they want you to use.

Lightning owner wants to know if the Tesla adapter will be plug and charge thru the Ford network or will you need to use the Tesla app to start charging?
@StateOfChargeWithTomMoloughney4 ай бұрын
It works and charges you through the Ford app. You could alternately charge through the Tesla app if you wanted to, but you'd need to first turn off Plug & Charge in the Lightning.
@izzyryder49693 ай бұрын
I believe you must first have prioity update 24-PU0119-DCCHG4. "www.f150lightningforum.com/forum/threads/priority-update-24-pu0119-dc-chg4-tesla-supercharger-network.18550/ " to get plug and charge compatibility. I have the update, but not the adapter yet.

Ford and Tesla need to use A2Z to make their adapter. Second to last day of the month of my latest promised ship date from for and now pushed to September. You know “soon” …. And yet Ford practically remains silent ….. loosing the message battle.

You saw more power because you were at 45% when you started the charge because of the Ford Boost charge curve. Nothing to do with the adapter.
@StateOfChargeWithTomMoloughney3 ай бұрын
Yeah, I thought about that later. But I have plugged in with the others at high SOC and still didn't see 170. But as I said, it has nothing to do with the adapter.

@@StateOfChargeWithTomMoloughneylikely because your battery was nice and cool since you had just driven from home to the Supercharger. In the heat I’ve been getting horrible speeds with the Supercharger Network. I was getting as slow as 68kW off boost. I went to an EA next and was getting 114kW off boost. I think the Supercharger cables are subpar and can’t handle the high heat where the fat bulky EA cables handle the heat much better.
