Thanks Dave. Another very informative video. I have BP Pulse subscription, (came with the car), but my local Tesla chargers are open to non Tesla’s, and with the subscription to Tesla, I save about £48 per month doing 200 miles per week. In reality, I save £37 after subscription charge. That’s a whopping £444 per year saved. Thanks Tesla.

Thank you so much for all your video's, as I've made the EV plunge just only 12 days ago, it was very worrying at first . I'm just waiting for my home charger to be fitted from Vauxhall 😴 My partner has a Tesla charger about 400 yards from work in Exeter , so we've been using that. I haven't got a member ship ,so I'm not quite sure yet, but I've been plotting my trip to Oxford soon. I am a little bit worried there, but fun at the same time once again. Thank you for all the info 😊

Hi. I also have a MGZS Trophy and was disappointed to find I could not use Tesla SC because of an unlocking safety glitch. I have now booked in for the special software update with my first service before Christmas. The swines are charging me £95 for the update as it’s non-standard. How was it for you? Did they charge you for it? Someone said it might invalidate my warranty, so I’ll want it in writing that it will not. Any probs now with using Tesla SC with your MG? If it works I’ll take the MG to the Alps in March. If not it will be my wife’s ICE SUV!

I have a 2022 MG ZS Trophy and was very disappointed to discover that the model is blocked from Tesla SC because of an unlocking safety issue. I have been badgering MG to provide a fix all year. I have now been offered a non-standard software upgrade for £95 (!) which should fix the problem but not guaranteed. I’m going to have this done with my first annual service before Christmas. I want them to confirm that this does not affect the car’s warranty. I normally charge at home but want the upgrade for a trip to the Alps next March. If you look through the thread above you’ll see a post from a chap who has had the upgrade and it seems it’s working for him. I’ll post again when I’ve had the fix and tried it at my local Tesla service centre in Cardiff.

It would be very useful to have all Tesla superchargers open to non Tesla drivers ( but I can see why that may not come about). However I believe in the USA in order to receive federal grants Tesla had to open their chargers to non Tesla cars. Maybe when we have a coherent government policy we could have the same in the U.K. ?
@davetakesiton Жыл бұрын
I think we do already. Some chargers here and in the states are absolutely heaving already just with Tesla it would makes no sense and produce no result if opened up other than ending up with a charger that was totally unusable. If Tesla is growing at more than 30% a year it’s only a matter of time, have patience this is an unexpected bonus that you didn’t have at all just over a year ago

The EV nay sayers best look at todays secondary legislation that’s been passed in Parliament, meaning that manufacturers will have to pay a levy on any ICE vehicle they make above 80% of their total production, that means ICE vehicles will become very expensive beyond 2030.

Why does it always need to be an app to pay? I am really against this. I know some do offer contactless payment but an app should only be opt in. And why can't you pay cash? Other types of stations have their machines accepting cash.

Nothing cheaper than home generated power. Next is the likes of Octopus who offer cheap EV charging periods. Next is the E7 tariff during the cheap hours. Next is likely most often home charging. Only then comes the Tesla superchargers. BUT they are the obvious choice when charging away from home and, at present, the best option by far if the car can be charged that way.

Tesla is different as the package includes fast chargers all in the right places dotted around the UK and the Continent. The price is reasonable to charge too. BP and other oil companies have bought up smaller charging businesses plus added their own with the intent of pushing up prices to charge to the same price as diesel and petrol prices, effectively stopping buyers from going for an electric car, no advantage price-wise, keep on buying gas cars. My advice is: Buy a Tesla, Lease a Tesla, Salary sacrifice for a Tesla or buy a used Tesla, can you see the theme…..you are buying a unique package charge at home or via one of the many Tesla chargers for a very reasonable sum, no RFID card or App required just rock up and plug in. After nearly 10 years driving a wide range of EV’s we bought a Tesla MYLR even in winter we touch 300 miles on a trip…winner !

Thanks Dave. Looking at Tesla's charge map, and filtering for non-Tesla, I can see there is a huge black hole in the South-West of England. Exactly the route I take for my summer hols. I can't wait for the day I can make 3 Tesla stops on the way (pulling a caravan reduces my range from 300 miles to around 90). Hope they add space for caravans at some point too. Currently most EV drivers have to unhitch a caravan in order to access charging bays. A layout more like a petrol station would be better with pull-through chargers under a canopy. Shell have done this in Norway. They do Petrol, Diesel and Electric, and have a nice shop to get snacks & coffee. They have also included a play area for the kids. kzbin.info/www/bejne/p4OVfmiNa9iUd80si=l5GL-IaF6aOrw9c9
