I do love my tesla but range is impacted by a lot of factors, speed, tire pressure, number of occupants, incline - I had a road trip from Vancouver to banff. Had to charge more than I expected, basically each station where a SC existed to ensure I had no range anxiety. There was a time I did not charge from hope to kamloops (only 200 ish kms) but my RWD range struggled pretty bad and I had to drive slow 60 kmph in a 120 zone to ensure not being stuck mid road. If I stuck at the posted speeds during the entire trip, my range loss would have been terrible. I had to reserve 25% range loss each time during my drive to ensure I reached to the next charger. The new model comes with good range so these issues will be minimized. But people need to be mindful that the stated range during a trip can vary upto 20-25% when you are on hilly areas with cold.

Range can definitely be a factor especially in colder weather! What was the temps if you recall from hope to kamloops? That is also a challenging stretch in general I have heard
@chandrangmakwana252Сағат бұрын
@ yea pretty challenging with severe long stretches of inclines. Temps were at 0 or -2

@@chandrangmakwana252 good to know! If I ever do a cross country trek and am heading through that region in my Tesla Model Y RWD i will be sure to take things into consideration

Thanks for the informative video - I'm thinking of getting a MY soon, and was wondering if steel winter rim's for EV's were a thing. If not, what would you recommend?
@teslasincanada5 сағат бұрын
You could go with steel rims. I just put my winter tires on the stock rims and you can get rims with winter tires mounted already at: Canada- tesloid.ca/?ref=2417 USA- tesloid.com/?ref=2497

As always thanks for the video. I have a one question “ If I buy a model y from private or other dealership Am I still under warranty? “ 4 years 80km in canada and 8years for battery 160km??? Thanks 😅
@teslasincanada5 сағат бұрын
The warranty is typically still in place depending on the model you're looking at. You can always reach out to Tesla and ask about it using the VIN Number to confirm before you purchase.

@ I saw the tesla event in shopping center in Vancouver but the worker told me only 4 years 80km 🤣 even a battery. I told him that in your website says different. But he didn’t agree 🤔

Can you talk more about AWD vs RWD..... varying opinions on this :-). Yet, a guy in Norway and in New York say RWD is fine....while a YT in Ohio, Penn., and Maine say AWD is the way to go. I have to decide here in the next week.

We have AWD M3 and have not seen winter yet. in 2 days we will get our first real snow. Spoke to a colleague or two, and they have M3 RWD. One of them has it for 7 years now. He said they got stuck once, but it was a pure skating rink and anyone would get stuck. Aside the one time all said they had no issues. To confuse things, I asked, if you could do it again, would you get RWD or AWD, one said AWD, but he never had issues. :) We got the AWD, as mainly my wife uses it, and she was more comfortable with the AWD. Also from what I understood, not sure if was on this channel, AWD is mainly using the single rear motor. The front motor is just used when it might need help. Also keep in mind that as this is an electric car, the traction control works much better than with and ICE car. The reaction time is much faster. With all of that said, I hope that I did not confuse you. Just sharing the confusing infro we got. :)

Love that long answer with anecdotes. Thank you. You are right about AWD 2nd motor only activating when necessary. A guy in Europe did a test and found this to be true. Mainly came on during acceleration.
@Cyrribrae12 сағат бұрын
@@jkimo1178also depends on your drive mode. In some range modes, I believe it never comes on basically. Realistically though, is the consensus not that winter tires have more impact on winter diving than AWD? Maybe I'm wrong, but that's what I thought.
@teslasincanada5 сағат бұрын
If I could do things over again I would still buy the RWD and being here in Southern Ontario and driving into the "snow belt" Often. Things have been good! As others say winter tires are key. I have a video coming in a couple days in regard to winter tires and can touch on AWD vs RWD in a future video (maybe this week).
